Cartecay Vineyards Tasting Room

Wonderful experience. The wines were wonderful, they were very helpful, the place looked cool, and they were generous with the wine tasting. They made me want to come back and I will.

This is a really nice day trip from Atlanta. I was itching to get out of the city for the day, the beach is a little too far so the mountains seem like an obvious choice. What to do while there? Sample local wine of course. Now, I’m not wine buff and I don’t read Wine Spectator magazine. But, I like supporting Georgia owned businesses and this seemed like a fun stop. A tasting of 5 wines is $ 8. Afterwards the wines are available for sale at a fair price ($ 12 to $ 28 per bottle). The guy behind the counter was really friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. Turns out the grapes for this wine are grown in their vineyard, but they are bottled at Habersham Winery in Helen. After our 5 samples and some oyster crackers we bought a few bottles and made our way back home to Atlanta. Of course we stopped at some local food stands. It turns out there are a few wineries in the Elijay area, you could easily make a full day of this. Drinking lots of water between wineries though.
