Only think keeping it from a 5 star was weak margaritas and a guacamole that had too little avocado in it.

We checked out reviews here looking for vegan food in Clarksburg WV. Mexican is always doable with modifications. This place had the best reviews so we chose it. Service was great and quick. Drinks were good… And cheap during happy hour. Salsa was blah until we asked for hot sauce! Out came a marvelous home made hot sauce that promptly went on everything. Prices were excellent as well. Good selection of vegetarian dishes that we could ask for no dairy… And they were delicious. I’d go again if I’m ever going through this way!

We’ve enjoyed coming here since they opened. The food is really good and fresh. And the staff is friendly and efficient. But they’ve added something lately– guacamole made table side. Now I love guacamole, and this is fantastic!

The badness starts with the complimentary chips, which taste burnt. The accompanying salsa is bland, as is most of the meals on the menu. At least the drink choices are plentiful, and reasonably priced, but that’s about it.

This is your typical Mexican restaurant. I’ve been here many times and the food is always fast and decent. Tonight we tried the Holy Guacamole. They bring a cart to your table and make the guacamole fresh right there. They’ll ask you if you like things they are adding and the spice level you’d like, so it’s customized. It’s a little pricey at $ 7.99, but worth it. The bowl is huge and the experience is fun. I also tried the Moyete. It sounded bizarre and I wanted to try something new. It’s French bread with refried beans and cheese, toasted and melted. It’s served with pico and sour cream. Even though it was weird, it was really tasty. I’m also a big fan of their flautas, they are like taquitos, served with lettuce, tomato and guacamole.

I dreaded moving to this area, because surely there wouldn’t be any good restaurants, but between Grand China Buffet and El Rey, I’m decently happy. The complimentary chips seem fresh, and the salsa is alright(it’s thin and not terribly hot, but it’s better with some Cholula Chipotle sauce added). My husband and I have always ordered the Chimichanga Dinner(him) and the Quesadilla Al Pastor(me) because they’re always great. The servers are always willing to swap the beans with the Chimichanga to black instead of pinto, and my husband loves them. I even got a free sample of their mole on request(which was good). Both dishes come with a «salad» of lettuce, tomato, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese, which is a much more generous side than most Mexican places. The restaurant is clean(besides the occasional drips of salsa that come with the menus, but that’s been true with all the Mexican restaurants I’ve been to) and cozy. I’ve found that it’s a lovely place to recharge after a busy day of errands.

This place is amazing. Super cheap margaritas. I believe $ 2.25 during happy hour. I got enchiladas smothered in mole. Omg it was heavenly. The best mole I’ve had yet. The chocolate flavor was just right. Delicious salsa. So good. Very friendly staff. Really good with children.

As a vegan traveling on the road, my options are limited. Our server was extremely considerate, letting us know immediately there was sour cream in the guacamole we ordered. We had the vegetarian fajitas and mushroom enchiladas without cheese. They made the food to order being careful of leaving out any dairy. My boo eats dairy so he was fine with the guac. It was a tasty and filling dinner. The chips and salsa were fresh and delicious. Staff was friendly and polite. We highly recommend!

Ever had bad Mexican food? I have now. To be fair, this place is in a Wal Mart shopping center. I should have known better. To be fair, all of the reviewers are not from Mexican descent like myself… that’s usually a bad-sign for cultural food. I should have known better. To be fair, I didn’t try everything on the menu. I should have known better. To be fair, the service… well wasn’t bad. To be fair, the restaurant was clean. But they sell food. If the food isn’t great… well…I should have known better. What the hell was I thinking?! Most of the time reviews on Unilocal have been helpful all over the World. This time I am mad at myself. I should have known better…

Don’t be fooled by the location in an unassuming strip mall. Waiter doesn’t speak a wink of English… a good sign. Amazing chips and salsa. Chips are homemade and you know it. We had tacos: steak, chicken and fish. You put on the toppings yourself fajita style. We would drive 2 hours to eat here anytime!

Most authentic Mexican meal you’ll find in this area! Delicious sidewalk tacos and I love the Feria Plato. Try one of specialty hot sauces!

Date of visit 6÷5÷15. Unilocal reviews brought me here, specifically for the«sidewalk» tacos. I got the fish tacos, which were yummy — and too much to finish. I’d return here just to try the other sidewalk tacos.

Very good Mexican food for WV. Living in Texas we are spoiled with excellent Mexican restaurants which makes it hard for any other place to compete with it. El Rey has authentic Mexican meals at very good price. Chips are AWESOME and fresh. I don’t know if they make them daily, but whatever they do, chips are one of the bests I’ve ever had. Totally recommend this place.

If you know authentic Mexican food then you’ll like this place. It’s not the best Mexican, but it’s the best in north central west Virginia. I’d suggest you try the sidewalk tacos, they are pretty authentic.

El Rey is one of the newer Mexican restaurants in town and I like the best so far. Staff is quick and friendly and the place is clean. Food is good portion and prices not too bad.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area! I especially love that i can order street tacos, and we always experiment with the variety of hot sauces. Margaritas are always good. Friendly service too.

Great home made Mexican food. Very friendly staff and fantastic«macho salsa». Compared to other Mexican places in the area I feel they serve a higher quality of meat and have a nicer look. I love the food and will definitely keep coming back. The only small change I would make would be to lower the amount of black pepper in the regular salsa, and maybe cut down or eliminate the cilantro

My husband and I have been meaning to try this new local option for Mexican food, which opened a few months ago in the plaza next to Walmart. We finally had lunch here yesterday and wish we had done so sooner! The interior of the restaurant is spacious and comfortable, with a nice-looking bar area in addition to booths and table seating. The staff was attentive and friendly. While eating tortilla chips and salsa and perusing the menu, I chose several hot sauces to sample from the collection of bottles displayed in the front of the restaurant. When our waiter noticed this, he brought out a bowl of house-made hot sauce that was far and away better-tasting(and hotter) than any of the bottled varieties. After telling him how much I liked it, he gave us an extra container of the sauce to take home with our leftovers. Most importantly, the food here is delicious. We were especially impressed with the quality of the meats. I was delighted to see tamales on the extensive menu(why do no other local Mexican restaurants sell tamales?!) and even happier to find that my tamale was filled with surprisingly tender and tasty shredded beef. I also ordered a chile relleno and enchilada, the latter of which contained nicely seasoned ground beef. I usually don’t have much to say about ground beef, so I was pleasantly surprised to note the good quality here. My husband ordered the Fajitas Reynas, which includes chicken, beef, shrimp, chorizo, and carnitas(pork). All the meats in this dish were excellent, especially the tender, juicy pork and beef tips. This menu item is only available in a double portion, so my husband figured he’d take half home for supper. He is a BIG eater but barely made a dent in this mountain of fajita fillings! We both ate the leftovers for supper yesterday, again for lunch today, and there is still a serving in the refrigerator. This dish is easily 4 – 6 servings. The menu prices here are more than reasonable. I would give El Rey five stars if they had better margaritas, rather than the typical machine-churned swill. A minor detraction, though, and easily overshadowed by the excellent quality of their food. El Rey is definitely head and shoulders above the other local Mexican options. We will be back soon!

Located just north of Walmart my Lady and I have eaten there 5 times and we haven’t had a bad meal yet. Ice cold Margaritas, Burritos and Fish Tacos are great.
