I really wanted to like this food truck because(1) it seems to have a honorable purpose and(2) the menu always sounds amazing. But I’ve tried this truck maybe 6 or 7 times already at food truck events and every single time, everything just tastes really bland. For example, the beef brisket sandwich — beef brisket with cherry cola bbq and gouda cheese on a hoagie — sounds like it would be amazing, right? I mean it tasted okay, the beef brisket was cooked correctly, but the bbq sauce had basically no flavor at all. Truffle fries? Couldn’t taste the truffle, couldn’t even taste the salt. I’ll give the truck another try next year, but as for right now they need to work on their flavor profile.

Reading the menu is what really lured me to this truck. I got the caprese grilled cheese and the eggplant fries. Both were very good. The fries were nice and crispy — not too healthy — but also not limp or soggy. And they are served with a side of pesto for dipping. My friend got the pulled pork cuban on the bun and let me try a bite. That’s what I’ll be ordering next time. The pulled pork was so juicy without a lot of sauce added to it and all the proportions were just right on the sandwich.

While the food tasted good, I wouldn’t trust the quality /health standards. After biting into the beef sandwich, my sister had the pleasure of a large dead fly oozing out of the sandwich into the plate. Took this to the truck and was initially told it can happen in an open environment, then they tried to deny it and blame it as something which flew in(sorry, no bugs outside). Requested a refund of the sandwich and another employee denied it could happen. Requested only the sandwich as refund, but offered a full refund.

Walnut Wednesday brings a plethora of choices to 12th and Walnut. I have been trying a different tuck every week. The menu here sounded great. I ordered the Braised Beef Brisket sandwich and the eggplant fries. The sandwich was small and there was just nothing special about it at all. It was very easily forgettable. Food trucks need to be on their game during these events and serve up food better than mediocre. The eggplant fries were a really cool and different change from french fries. I really enjoyed them. The sauce they serve with them was a perfect match. In fact, they made my visit to this truck justified. The food truck has become synonymous with gourmet, different and exciting. This truck did not fit any of those criteria. It was a very nice looking truck and the food was served up fast, however it just lacked enjoyablility. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t special either.
