There are coupons each Sunday in the paper and you can get them online(and they accept them on your smartphone). I would really not pay full price for anything. The customer service from the workers is hit or miss. There aren’t too many workers throughout the store so the wait for service might be long especially in departments where there is a dedicated worker(e.g., photo frames). I’ve had good luck however with the store having in stock what I need, even on advertised items. Stop in for your framing needs, random seasonal décor or just to browse — they really have packed a lot of stuff into this space.

I am not a crafty person at all so I walked right up to a lady at the register and told her the problem I was trying to solve. She immediately got the store manager to come over. She told me exactly what I needed and escorted me over to the aisle where the product was. She even told me how to use it and what to look for while using it. Great customer service and helpful staff. I was so impressed I wrote a letter to Michael’s corporate office, praising the store manager, and they wrote me a nice letter back.

Michaels, you’re cool and everything, but Pat Catans has you beat. Is that mean? Am I fueling craft wars with that comment? I can picture it now – knitting needles flying threw the air like javelins stabbing miscellaneous body parts, people sewing mouths up and smothering eyes shut with glitter glue. Yikes… Regardless, for the price, you just can’t beat Pat Catan’s. Sorry. And to be honest, the service sort of blows at both craft stores, but I’ve never been ignored more in my life than I was at Michaels. I literally walked around for 20 minutes trying to find someone to help me. Really? And when I finally did find a staff member he was barely helpful. I’m looking for someone who can help me develop my crafty ideas and really point me in an inspiration direction. I know that’s a lot to ask. So, I’d settle for someone who knew what they were talking about. I didn’t find this here. I will say that there was one helpful lady at the register. While she was ringing me up she really made the effort to give me every discount she could find. She dug up the inserts, coupons, everything and made sure I was getting everything I could at a lesser price. Now, if only they could reproduce her and scatter her around the store…

I glared at the woman behind the counter who was trying to ‘help’ me get a custom frame job. Whatever happened to customer service? First, she pretends to be nice with her hi can I help you. I see right through her. «No. No. No.» I bark back because I am not going to be treated rudely. «No. No. No.» She gets this sort of confused look and meekly asks me what’s wrong and what do I want. «I want a picture framed, you customer server. That’s why I’m here. Is that too much to ask? Am I out of line here? Am I being out of line? Is that what you think?» She’s got me pegged for a tech-savy Interneter and now she’s scared. She’s all like, «Uh. what are the dimensions of the photograph?» And that’s when I lost it. I explained to her what Unilocal was and how I could write a review about her and her little pin-the-tail-on-the-customer shell game she’s hitting with a piñata stick. I told her that the power of the internet meant I didn’t have to take her little attitude. «WHYDOYOUHAVEANATTITUDE?» I squawked. I was like an African Grey and I kept repeating myself. I know when I’m right. I know when I’m right. I make the rules. I make the rules. I make the rules. Sorry. Deep breath. She gets all blank stare and incredulity and I am already rewriting my review in my head. Customer service means serving the customer and if I go off on some old frame lady, well, that goes with the territory. I’m sorry, Michaels Arts and Crafts, but you lose two stars just to make me feel more powerful. They did a good job on the framed photograph and with a coupon I got it for a good price. A-OK.
