This place is a joke. All of the clothes are made from cheap looking/feeling fabric and you can see uneven and exposed stitching everywhere. I saw a basic pencil skirt for over $ 100. Who do they think they are, Burberry? I have no idea what clientele they expect to get there but someone who can drop that kind of money expects more.

I sing the praises of Yellowcake. I’ve been into this sweet little shop before to adore all of the cute things and pretty dresses. Yesterday we went in to look for bridesmaids dresses for my sissy’s wedding. They just happened to be having their annual Yellowcake event which included free spray-tanning, wine, and cupcakes. We tried on dresses, and shoes, and looked at all of the pretty things. The staff is incredible. We felt like one of the family. I tried on a bunch of dresses while sissy sat on a comfy couch and critiqued and Val or one of her minions were quick to offer input, grab shoes, get me a new size, or any thing else we could want. They were all so attentive without rushing or pressing. It was just a beautiful, fun experience. I love that everything feels so quality, the fabrics are gorgeous, each piece is unique, and these are locally made clothes. We found two dresses that I just adored, but the other bridesmaid was not such a fan, so we left without purchasing anything. Still, everyone was quick to hand us a huge package of cupcakes as we walked out the door. The cupcakes were gorgeous and delicious. I will definitely be back to yellowcake. I cannot wait to see what Val spins out for summertime.

Be careful. I was so excited to find what I thought was a gem to get my sweetie a xmas present. Asked about return policy incase it didn’t work out. My wife loved the dress but needed a different size. We went to exchange it(January 5th or 6th) and they wanted to charge us a 30% fee to exchange it for the correct size(just swap this one for that one). After complaining, the owner was willing to reduce the fee to 20%. We felt that was unfair and a poor business decision. We don’t plan on going back even though we saw other things we were thinking of buying. I don’t understand how a small local business can turn customers away like that when the solution would not have cost them a dime. If fact it would have probably brought them ten fold in business from word of mouth referrals. Suggest the owner reads«Growing a Business» by Paul Hawken.

I’m going to be taking huge bites of Gordon Square’s Yellowcake from now on! This adorable boutique offers a beautiful collection of trendy, locally produced women’s clothing and accessories. Because of this it tends to be a bit pricier, but I can’t get enough of the idea that I am supporting a creative Cleveland designer! The interior of the story is bright and cheery, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. I stopped in today and ended up purchasing a really cute pair of white high waisted shorts with a grey dinosaur print! How’s that for whimsical! Yes, I know you are thinking, «Shorts in November? Is she really from Cleveland? She won’t be able to wear those for another six months!» But one of the staff members was super helpful at suggesting fall/winter appropriate ways to style these shorts! As I mentioned earlier, they a bit expensive($ 74), but they are good quality, and totally unique! What I did notice is that Yellowcake’s sizing tends to run a bit larger than average, so if you stop in here, consider trying on the next size down. I am excited to see what this sweet little shop will have in store for seasons to come!

Cute little boutique and original clothing designs. But I was a little surprised when I looked at some of the garments and noticed some unfinished stitching. Bummer. I will go back another time and see if things are any different.

I love Valerie and Yellowcake! Yellowcake now has a pop up shop in Gordon Square that will be there through February, 2012. If you are helping to promote local businesses, this is a good one to support. All of Yellowcake’s clothing is cut and made in Cleveland. The designs are also incredible. I bought a lovely print chiffon maxi dress that I’m just in love with and looks incredible. The staff is incredibly patient and helpful as well. I definitely recommend checking out Yellowcake. My only complaint is that there is not a permanent location!

I think I’m going to need therapy when this little pop-up shop leaves Ohio City, ’cause this gal is in love. First of all, anyone who can put up with the extreme torture of my indecisive lingering and bantering while I shop deserves a frickin’ gold metal – and let me say, Valerie deserves 8 of ‘em. What a sweetheart. I had the help I needed, plus some, but without feeling rushed or pressured. Honestly, I felt at home! We small-talked and she assisted me through my annoying back-n-forth between two phenomenally fantastic outfits. I now wish I would have just gotten both! Really, though. Valerie took the time to ask me questions and make me feel like a friend while I shopped. Such a great experience! Now onto the good stuff – the clothes! I literally walked in and fell in love with ev-ery-thing. To avoid over-whelming myself, I picked up three outfits: two cute, little dressed and one floral, long gorgeous skirt with a top. Everything fit great, but it’s the little touches she adds that really makes it all come together. She had me try one of the little dresses with this amazing elephant belt. It was made with vintage pieces and modern touches. Then she showed me all the different ways I could wear the skirt and how she usually sports it too! Everything in the shop is made by Valerie herself and you can see the passion in it all. Hair scarves, belts, jewelry, accessories and clothes – all absolutely fabulous. I seriously could visit and buy something from Yellowcake daily, but I suppose I should try to be more responsible with my funds. Being a grown-up sucks. Wah. Be sure to check this shop out before it closes on Aug 13! But don’t fret it you miss it. She’s opening another around the holidays and you can order her awesome clothes, accessories and more online!
