Little bunny Foo Foo Went hopping through the forest Scooping up the field mice And bopping them on the head A video inspired by my visit: Q: What’s better than a creepy, haunted ol’ Virginia town? A: A creepy, haunted ol’ Virginia town with an urban legend of a 6ft tall murderous bunny rabbit with an axe that ain’t made for cutting wood. My first introduction of the«BMB» was through the book Weird Virginia and through Fairfax Co. Gov’s website dedicated to debunking the inconsistencies of a legend that has terrorized school-aged kids for decades. The bridge separates the historic and quaint Fairfax Station from the more subdued(and quiet!) residential neighborhood. It should go without saying that this bridge has become an unwelcome nuisance for the folks that inhabit this little community. This site may be a bust for urban legend enthusiasts looking for a thrill. The only documented bloodshed in the area was from the wounded Confederate and Union soldiers cared for by Ms. Clara Barton. If this bridge is haunted, I doubt it’s by a Bunny Man. Besides, who wants to spend eternity in a bunny costume? I mean, really. Nevertheless, I was glad to see the bridge in person and it inspired me to create a 3 minute short film.(link above) Now I CAUTION you: While the ghosts may be looming around these tracks, so are the boys in blue. One YouTube video shows defacers having to repaint the bridge as part of their punishment. Also, it’s well-known that cops have check points here on Halloween and throughout the year. In this case, you should be more afraid of the living than the dead. You’ve been warned.

Are you and your friends bored? Do you get an adrenaline rush from horror stories? Will you be willing to venture into a past murder scene? Then this is the place for you! Long story short: The bridge is the location of several unsolved murders of the early 20th century and people have reported seeing«the bunny man» aka the murderer’s ghost around the area. It’s a pretty creepy place I’ll give you that. You know you’re getting close when you see the sign«one lane bridge ahead.» It’s pretty tucked away in a neighborhood and you have to go down most of Colchester Road to get to it. There’s this abrupt turn once you get to it and at night its truly terrifying to be in your car and all of a sudden see this spooky bridge appear out of nowhere. Rumor is that if you stay under the bridge too long the bunny man will pop out and kill you. Luckily I’m still here to tell the tale. But yeah definitely go with friends as it makes the experience much more interesting.

Bunny Man Bridge, thank you for providing my friends with countless hours of entertainment in high school. Your spooky setting and secluded locale made the perfect back drop for fun memories for bored high school kids everywhere. If you don’t know the history about this place, apparently there was a series of unsolved murders in the Clifton area in the early 1900’s when a prisoner escaped while in transit to the Lorton jail. It is believed the murderer lived near the bridge and survived on rabbit carcasses, thus the name Bunny Man Bridge. To quote Ray Parker Jr., «I don’t believe in no ghosts!» BUT I will say, I did come here once to test out a brand new camera and there were several moving colored orbs(or to believers, spirit energy) that showed up in our final film outputs. Overall, a fun creepy place to check out when you are bored!

I’m surprised no one has mentioned the connection to Donnie Darko yet… Rumor has it, that the Bunny Man Bridge(BMB) was(at least in part) an influence for the character Frank(dressed up in a creepy bunny suit) in the film Donnie Darko. Donnie Darko, of course, taking place in a suburb of Virginia(Middlesex, about 130 miles from BMB). Others say the costumes influence came from the fantasy novel, «Watership Down». Which one is it? Who knows. :) Do yourself a favor and check out this local legend, just note that if you do it on your iPhone app, do NOT go here via the option to click on the«get directions to», you have to click the address itself and then go to view it in Google maps, otherwise, clicking the«directions to this address» option directly will send you to a suburb in Lorton off 123, no where near the actual location.

It’s amusing. I like scary places. This place is mentioned in horror books, tv shows, and all over the internet. It’s scary because it’s all in your head. The road it’s on is creepy. the bridge is old. On Halloween. there are plenty of cops at the nearby church catching people trying to go there(It’s private property). So be warned. You don’t want to get a ticket.

Definitely scary. I suggest you go at night with a group of friends. Drive under the bridge, park on the other side and try to walk under it. I’ve experienced some strange things here… so if you’re faint of heart, stay far, far away.

I was amused when I found that someone had reviewed the Bunny Man Bridge. For those of you unfamiliar with the legend of the Bunny Man and the Bunny Man Bridge — check out the Wikipedia entry: Back in my high school days — we used to go to the Bunny Man Bridge at midnight to party. Some times we’d take some unsuspecting girls there to try and scare them. :-) We used to tell the girls and other unsuspecting folks that if you go stand beneath the bridge at midnight on a full moon and are very quiet — you can hear the sounds of dead babies crying in the woods.

If you live in Clifton, or in one of the surrounding hoods, you may have heard about this urban legend. Or should I say«suburban» legend. The tale behind the story goes like this. In the early 1900’s Clifton residents successfully petitioned to get rid of a mental asylum in their town. The inmates get moved to a new facility and the bus crashes(shades of «The Fugitive») and 2 of the inmates escape. While that whole mess happened, people in the area found dead rabbits hanging from the trees, as well as a man hung from a tree in the same manner. People started call ling the bridge close to the where the body was found The Bunny Man Bridge.” One of the missing inmates was named a suspect and earned the nickname«Bunny Name.» The rumor goes that the Bunny Man has been spotted in and around the one lane tunnel that goes under the bridge.
