Window ceiling, part brick, part marble walls with wooden details at the bar – creating a bright, sun-lit, clean look in this beautiful space. I sat at the bar and ordered the Sister’s tart. Flaky puff pastry, mushrooms, and a mornay sauce(light, cheesy, savory) complemented with a plate of arugula drizzled in balsamic vinegar? Idk, it was delicious. Mimosas were yum with what seemed to be freshly made orange juice at the bar. Come here for a cute space and a light and tasty brunch. I’d like to return for dinner because I spied a veggie burger. Yay

I visited Sisters for the first time on Saturday for lunch. I used to live around the corner and felt some nostalgia for the place since it used to be my go-to hardware store. I’d since passed by several times and marveled at the interesting design. The restaurant was about half-full when we arrived. The bar area was occupied, but most of the regular seating was available. The type of bland electronic music that you hear at fashion parties was pouring from the speakers and, unfortunately, the space didn’t seem to deaden the sound, so it nearly approached the level of seeming like the type of establishment that uses loudness to encourage table turnover. I ordered the shrimp and chorizo grits and my wife ordered the french toast. We also ordered iced coffee and a beer, which was listed as being on draught, but ended up arriving in a bottle. This is not a dealbreaker, however, the fact that the beer and coffee showed up about 10 – 15 minutes after ordering was a bit disappointing. Our waiter was polite, and he offered an apology: «Sorry, you got the new guy.» The apology was gracious, but it forces me to wonder what part of Sisters’ server training program covers the concept of the server taking the drinks/food to the guests instead of letting it stagnate on the corner of the bar while the server idly chitchats. That being said, the food was decent. My chorizo and shrimp grits were a bit greasy but generous with flavorful chorizo and juicy shrimp. My wife’s french toast was well-cooked, not soggy, but her side of bacon was flavorless. It seemed to lack fat, which I suppose is worth something, but are we really eating bacon for our health? The iced coffee was also excellent, but don’t ask the owner about it, because he’s sure that you’ve never heard of his ultra-exclusive coffee roaster. 2 Lunch entrees, side of bacon, beer and a coffee will cost you about $ 50 – 60. Maybe this place sees better days, but I find it hard to stomach spending $ 50 – 60(even in this city) for a noisy space with poor service and acceptable food.

Food was fine but I asked the waiter to swap the mozzarella and aioli on the veggie burger for mushroom and onion and they charged me an extra $ 6 without warning me first. The burger was okay but definitely not worth $ 20.

The food is SO fresh. The space is beautiful and filled with natural light, with great music tailored to the mood. It’s a family-owned and run farm-to-table establishment. The staff is especially warm and welcoming, and notably inclusive of queer communities. All-gender inclusive bathrooms. SISTERS rocks.

The food was ok. We waited 50 minutes while one dingus on his laptop drank water at a 4 top. The owner might have been on the spec. Never going back. Hope it goes out of business and an epic place takes over that appreciates the beautiful space.

We stopped in here for some drinks and ended up staying for dinner. Absolutely gorgeous setting and spectacular cocktails.

Beautiful atmosphere, but service and food were lacking. They had only one person serving the entire front of the house, which is inadequate for a space that size. My veggie burger was pretty much just a mushy compilation of bland lentils. The fries, however, were great. I live in the hood and have been here before, but this will definitely be my last time.

Sisters is amazing. Haven’t eaten here, but the drinks are great, great ambiance and the service is really friendly. I’ve been here a couple times and it’s always been great. Last time I was a little tipsy and a total pain in the ass(sorry!) and they were still nice to me! Definitely recommend this spot for dates.

I was visiting a relative in the area and we came here for Easter brunch. The highlight of this place is definitely the environment in which you get to eat. Everything is clean, and new, and there’s an enormous skylight that lets you look into the sky. The service is fine, and the food was OK. We all sampled each other’s plates and I liked the egg sandwich the best. My grits with shrimp was underwhelming to be honest. My wife got the Sister’s Tart, which had potential to be better, but it was a little overdone. All that being said, I know I made the food seem only mediocre, but really, the décor make up for it and have an extremely inviting experience. I wish more restaurantors took as much patience with the look of their establishment as the owners of Sisters do.

Came here on a Friday night and wasn’t too busy. The drinks are pretty good and the décor is nice, but the food is a big miss. Moreover, its expensive for a pretty bad burger and fried chicken sandwich. Also had the artichoke, which was $ 14, very small, and had the consistency of an old tire. Would consider maybe having a drink here in the future, but would never order food again, even fries or appetizers.

This place used to be a hardware store. Now it’s a bougey Brooklyn bar/restaurant. Let’s see how the two stack up: DECOR Big win for the restaurant. The hardware store was dark and cramped. The restaurant is Art. High ceilings(seriously, where did those come from? Did the hardware store have an attic?), gorgeous inlaid wood and tile work, plants everywhere, skylights… based on décor alone, I would live here if I could. SERVICE Hardware store by a landslide. If you came in and wandered around for a while, they’d eventually notice you and ask what you needed. Then they’d help you find it. At the restaurant, you can sit at a table for forty minutes starving your face off without any of the waitstaff coming over to check on you. Even if all they’re doing is wandering around aimlessly because it’s super early in the brunch shift and the restaurant is still mostly empty, begging the question of why the F it’s taking them 40 minutes to make your eggs in the first place. HAVINGWHATYOUWANT The hardware store had a lot of stuff! If you needed to fix something in your home, they had the thing you needed to fix it. They sold paint and plumbing and lighting and electrical stuff and, of course, hardware. I think they even had toilet seat covers. The restaurant also has a lot of stuff. At least according to their menu. But they don’t have decaf coffee, and they don’t have the tea you want(even though it’s on the menu), and none of this would be a big deal if you didn’t also have to wait 40 minutes for an egg while the waitstaff walked around twiddling their thumbs. DELICIOUSFOOD The hardware store did not have any delicious food. Unfortunately, the food at the restaurant is also only sub-delicious. My chilaquiles were basically nachos: good, but nothing special. They were also stacked high on a tiny little plate, making it difficult to mash the chips around and get everything nice and soggy without flinging pieces of tomato everywhere. So basically, it was dry tortilla chips with some other food on them. Totally could have lived with this if they hadn’t taken forty minutes to arrive, but by the time they got there I was super hangry and this dish just wasn’t trying hard enough to appease me. NOTBEINGFULLOFDOUCHEBAGS Ummmmm hardware store. So yeah. Even though it’s really pretty and maybe I just caught them on a bad day, I kind of wish this place was still a hardware store.

Came for brunch with 4 people only had to wait 20 minutes for a table. Loved the décor and beer options. Got a delicious spicy bloody Mary while we waited at the bar. When we were brought to a table we were sat at a sticky, dirty table made out of wood liquid soaked. I ordered the egg sandwich which was OK and we probably waited a good 45 minutes for our food to come, so did everyone in our area. Overall decent experience, would probably only go back for a drink.

Love the space — a large skylight, great use of wood and tile. Nice employees. We were eating later for brunch(1:30) so they were out of many of the dishes. We had to toss for who got the last two waffle! The savory waffles were really good !

Soooo funny story… my friend and I decided on a whim to go out and tried to get into this weird lot party that really didn’t exist so instead we kept walking down the block and saw sisters. Such a small door but huge on the inside! We drank here all night and chatted with the bartender it was a blast and exactly the type of night we were looking for. Next morning we decide to go to brunch and bring my SISTER there and thought we’ll go back to Sisters! Walk in and it’s the SAMEBARTENDER. He didn’t recognize us but it was crazy! Really great avocado toast!

We recently went for our second time and I will have to say that it will probably be our last. It’s not the worst place in the world but like the 2-star rating says«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» Mainly it’s because of the service. It’s not just that it’s slow, as other posters like Amanda B. has mentioned, but they also don’t seem to care as Scott M. states. Maybe that’s why they’re slow. The place seems to be popular so they probably don’t think they need to do anything to change it. The food? Again, I’ve experienced better. It’s not that it’s bad. I mine it was fine but it wasn’t anything that could overcome the impression left by the poor service.

We visited Sisters for lunch on a snowy weekday and found it to be a very enjoyable experience. Service is very very slow here – so plan accordingly. We weren’t in a rush and the place was fairly empty but still took us around 90 minutes to eat, drink, order, and pay so probably not the best place for a quick bite. This aside, we loved everything about this place! It’s absolutely gorgeous and unlike any bar/restaurant I’ve been to. They put a ton of detail into the design and it shows. We orders some brunch drinks(mimosas and Bloody Mary) and they were freshly made and delicious. The lunch menu food wise was pretty small but there was definitely something for every type of diner. We opted for the kale Caesar salad, grilled cheese, and veggie burger. Prices were generally $ 10-$ 15 so very reasonable. The food took a great while but appeared to be made fresh from scratch and was tasty. This place looks to turn into more of a music venue in the evenings – they have a larger room in the rear to accommodate these sort of events – so I imagine the vibe is quite different then. I would like to come back simply to enjoy the atmosphere they’ve created here!

Twas one of those nights. A subtle fall chill in the air, while sweet summer was waiting to leave us New Yorkers in the cold. My newlywed friend, who suggested we meet at Sisters, was also leaving NYC for good, so I needed something sweet and strong to help numb my emotions. Sat at the bar and started with the margarita, which was a fine drink, but not nearly as complex as my second drink, the super fine, super creative and super dark«Cool Leatherette». Every sip was a tiny explosion of flavor: ginger, balsamic vinegar, and rye. Ah-ma-zing! I’ve been thinking about it since I’ve had it. Really plotting my next secret rendezvous with it. The Idris Elba of cocktails looks like dark chocolate milk to some(I took many pictures of it on my phone from different angles and showed them to at least three people), but to me it was and still is the sexiest(in looks and taste) drink I’ve had thus far. The duck rillettes, the only thing we ate here, were also good. The bartenders were friendly, especially after I ordered the«Cool leatherette.»

I came here on a Saturday night with friends and was wow’d at how gorgeous the interior is. It was a little confusing though, because it seemed like some people were having an intimate dinner, whereas in the back, it was a straight up bar. We made ourselves comfortable at an empty table in the very back(sorry if that wasn’t okay!) and enjoyed the cocktails we ordered. I absolutely loved mine, although I don’t remember what it was called. Somewhat pricey(definitely not a dive bar), but I felt like it was good value. I’d love to be back, especially with my sister(sorry that’s not even trying).

Note: this review is for their Sunday brunch. My friend and I enjoyed our meal here at Sisters. First of all, you are stunned by how beautiful the interior is — high ceilings, sky lights, interesting shelving configuration behind the bar, and multi-leveled seating in the front dining area, with more dining space in the rear. We tried their baked huevos ranches and huevos benedict. I was pleased with my meal — slightly on the smaller portion size but well flavored and executed. Drinks are nice and strong and with the light, bright and airy ambiance, we have a nice brunch and good conversations. Service was slightly on the slow side, and although our server was very nice and friendly, it did take quite a bit to get their attention and simple things like re-filling water glasses seemed to take forever… so a few stars taken away for that. I’ll have to come back and try other items on their brunch menu(my eyes are set on the chicken and waffle option) or their dinner as well. Glad to see a new beautiful-looking spot in the neighborhood!
