Showdown Auto Sales

I dealt with Dave to purchase a car. I watched the video and also had a lengthy conversation with Dave. He assured me he was very experienced in the classic car dept. Had the car delivered as soon as the car came off the truck I was able to tell that the sides had be repainted, the Hood, Roof and Trunk Lid were the original paint he assured me that the car wasn’t repainted. I forgot to mention that the car was dead on arrival, the battery was no good had to jump it every time to start it. Then there is the little matter of a major brake fluid leak from the proportion valve and both rear wheel cylinders, fluid had to be added daily along with a Transmission leak and Oil leak. All of the fan belts were shot. Mind you I realize this is a 40 year old car but after being told that it runs and drives like the day it was new from Dave over and over I didn’t expect all of these issues. They can send you all the disclaimers they want about how they’re not responsible for all of these issues but, when you talk to him on the phone for half an hour and at least five times after you would think he was being honest. I’m not saying that I wouldn’t have bought the car but I wouldn’t have paid what I did for it.

Showdown is one of the few dealers in Metro Detroit that deals entirely in classic cars. You’d be hard pressed to find this many classic cars for sale in one place.
They don’t seem to have a preference to any particular makes of vehicles, except that they generally deal in American classics. If you’re looking for that classic Jaguar, Birmingham may be the place you should look.
I can remember going by this place with my dad as a kid and drooling at all the classics that seemed to revolve in the lot.
Speaking of: the lot is sort of small. They only have two dozen cars for sale at a time, but they always, ALWAYS have a full lot.
One thing that was discovered when a friend up and bought a Camero SS from this place is that: A. Showdown does all their own repair work, so like other dealers, they fix the cars up before they sell them. and B. the body work is not always re-​weld work, but Bondo work. My friend had some spots on the rear wheel wells that were definitely Bondo.
Easy way to check it to get a weak magnet and roll it over the body of the car. If it doesn’t stick, then it’s not steel!
Still, for the prices they sell these cars for, you have to expect that sort of thing; a car that’s been fully restored with quality weld work on it would cost well over the 10k that that the more expensive of Showdown’s cars sell for.
Still, if you’re looking for something classic, they’d be the guys to talk to. They seem to be on the beat with classic car trading in the metro area.
