I’ve never had a better sub in my life. One of my first stops home when I’m home on leave. MUST try the Beercheese, it’s life-changing.

I’ve been coming here for years and the sandwiches never disappoint! Yesterday I had a plain old turkey sub that was delicious. I can’t believe how big the small sandwich is! My husband ordered the Italian sub and wolfed it down — a hallmark of his approval. What makes this spot extra delicious is the bread. It is super fresh and tasty.

After having their chicken tortilla soup and falling in love, I constantly find myself comparing it to all the others I try. Nothing compares. I’d say if you haven’t tried sub base the soups are worth it alone

Sub Base is sub par. Expect mayonnaise, lots of mayonnaise.

Great sandwiches, friendly environment, highly recommend the Italian super sub. The bread is one of the most important parts to a good sub and they nailed it. Best sub place in Clinton!

Been here several times and each time the sub has gotten less enjoyable. I get the super Italian and the meat is just not the same. I do not think it is Thumann’s or it is not the same Thumann’s I get from Primo subs I get in Easton. Won’t be going back as I think it is on par with Quiznos now but more expensive. The size is good but I am looking for meat flavor and it is just not there.

I always got rave reviews when I got the 3 ft party subs but for some reason the last time I purchased four 3 ft subs 2 Italian 1 turkey and 1 roast beef. My nephew who picked up the subs told me these subs better be special because they were expensive. The meat was very thin no where like past orders, I never minded paying the price because the meat was always over the top in the past. I’am not sure the owner is aware that his staff is making skimpy subs, because when he is at the slicer he loads on the meat but he is not often on the slicer anymore. It too bad because in the future I would pass on giving them another chance in the event of being disappointed again. These guys need some quality control

I am editing my last review because I do not think it was a good reflection of the overall quality of the deli. During my second review of this place I gave them 2 stars due to the unfortunate discovery of hairs in the food. Accidents happen… We still go to this deli regularly. It is still the best deli in the area. I have noticed an improvement in the cleanliness since my last review. I highly recommend the chili.

It doesn’t get any better than this for sub shops. The British name and flag outside are a bit of a misnomer … I don’t know where that comes from but there is nothing British about this place. Not even 1 menu item, so don’t expect to find Toad In A Hole, Bangers and Mash, Cornish Pasties, etc. This is an American sub shop … located in one of(in my opinion) the most picturesque towns in America … Clinton, NJ. At first glance upon entering, you think to yourself, ‘Oh no. This might be a hipster joint’. But the staff is very friendly and helpful and it becomes apparent that they care about their customers. The shop is small with only a few tables for eating.(the one by the window is my favorite) but the menu board is HUGE! It takes up almost an entire wall. A bit overwhelming but they do a good job at describing the different subs. My favorite is the house special, which is kind of like your typical Italian Sub. The cold cuts here are amazing and fresh … not the cheap ones you’d find at Subway. These are just as good, if not better than Boarshead. The provolone they use is so potent and tasty … I’d order it on just about anything. What you should know: 1.) The large sub is HUGE! Seriously, good luck eating one even if you are playing O-Line for the Giants. Half a sub with a cup of soup is a very filling meal. I’d like to see the person who could eat a large sub and a cup of soup.(and this is coming from a big eater). The good thing about ordering a large is you have half left to eat later. 2.) The beer and cheese soup … AMAZING. If you have not tried this and your heart can handle a cup of melted cheesy goodness with real bacon pieces, you must try it. The smallest size is probably what you want to get because it ain’t too healthy! DO dip the bread into the soup, which makes it almost like a fondue. 3.) Everything is made fresh … you can tell that by the taste. The lettuce and tomatos taste like they are local. Very fresh and good. The soups are wonderful creations. You can ask for just about anything and they will probably be able to make it for you. 4.) The brownies for dessert are worth the calorie splurge. They are like the bake sale brownies you loved as a kid … you know that kid’s mother who had the best brownie recipe? Oh yeah. I literally drive 30 minutes out of my way to eat here sometimes. When you crave it, you crave it. This has to be my favorite sub shop anywhere.

This place was very much just okay. There weren’t good veggie options. Not a lot of choice for toppings. It was pretty much entirely about the deli meat. The soup was good, but not phenomenal. In general, I probably wouldn’t go back, but I am not sad that I went either.

Scott and crew make top notch food. Everything is made in house and served by a friendly group of guys. If you’re looking for fancy sandwiches, keep walking down the street. It’s pretty basic here, but that’s not an insult. The beauty is in the details and the freshness of product. They do it right, plain and simple. The best soups in Clinton as well.

I don’t know what it is about Jersey — maybe it’s all the Italians — but they make a darn good sub that is tough to find in Pennsylvania. We were passing through the area, and I really didn’t want to do a standard fast food joint. I remember Clinton was only a stone’s throw off of 78 and decided to take a chance for a quick restaurant, as all I could recall were upper scale(although very nice) places. Luckily Sub Base came to the rescue. We were there late in the day during the week(around 2:30) and the place was still doing a decent business mainly with phone and to go orders. We sat in. Both our sandwiches were very fresh and delish. I got tuna salad, and the hubs got seafood salad. The bread was especially good. Only downer was that they don’t have a bathroom in the place(really?!) and I was sent next door to use theirs which I thought was weird but whatever. I will def be back, and would recommend.

My last great love in Clinton, and one of the places I need to visit whenever I visit my parents. Their subs are thick, piled high with the best meat, cheese and veg on thick fresh bread. Their hot subs are nice, but my personal favorite is the Bowser: a tasty roast beef, Russian dressing, lettuce and tomato combo worthy of the Koopa King himself. The real star of the show here is the soup. Their beer cheese is rich, super filling, and great with bread. Their black bean soup is hot, spicy and delicious. You have NOTLIVED, no matter who you are, until you try the chicken tortilla. Sub Base’s «Chortilla», as my friends and I would call it as kids, is the soup of soups. Get it as a side or as a main course. If memory serves, they have it on Wednesdays. Pull up a chair, or get it to go, Sub Base is not to be overlooked.

Ye Olde Sub Base is neither midieval nor an actual base. It is a small sub shop which manufactures submarine sandwiches that rival the actual size of real-life submarines. The subs, painstakingly churned out through an assembly line(one person to take the order and one to make the sandwich), are without question dramatically more tasty than an actual metal sub. Ye Olde Sub Base is a no-nonsense sub shop with friendly, attentive and quick service on a strip of Main St. in Clinton. Ambience is not the strong point here, nor should it be. It is all about the bread, the meat and the fixings and it is completely worth a visit and well worth their cost. On my first visit, I ordered up a turkey sub. When prompted for a choice between small and large, I asked to see the large and then ok’d it so as not to look like a sub-sissy. The roll looked large with nothing in it, but when I was handed this five pound monster I left like I was walking back to work with a healthy mackerel in a bag. This large sub became lunch one day and dinner the next, all for $ 10.50. If you are not Andre the Giant, your lunch order will only necessitate a half — unless you want leftovers(you will).
