These guys are great. They take care of their customers and always charge a fair price.

The least expensive smog check around (coupon is always available in the Bee on Mondays) and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. They are a full service auto shop and have shuttle service available. I also like the fact that they use BG products. Highly recommended.

I’m sorry I don’t feel like writing a long complaint but I know how important information can be. I just want to say ask questions get it in writing (prices) and hold people accountable i.e. our problem was a smog ck feel ripped off will never use them again.

The people that work at Carmax did an excellent job. They were very quick they were very friendly and they were the cheapest of any of the mechanics that I look for in the area. They were able to get me in at the last minute with a friendly smile and a firm handshake. These guys really know how to take care of you!

I have looked for a reliable auto repair shop in Clovis since moving here 8 years ago. I have had to make more repairs in the last 2 years than in the previous 6 combined. I think my search has ended with Carbex, they are about as good as I could expect from any auto service/​repair shop.
Firstly, they have a free shuttle which is convenient for me as I occasionally have a hard time finding a ride to pick up or drop off a car. Secondly, Greg (whom I have always dealt with) seems really knowledgeable and will always explain all the work and charges and even give me options. He will even give me advice if I tell him that I will do something myself.
I do a lot of work on my vehicle (s) at home, but when I can’t, I turn to Carbex for everything else.

Note: this is a review about auto repair. I have it under smog heading since I cannot find Carbex under auto repair.
One of my autos had a problem with stalling when I accelerated. I could only get it up to around 30 mph. Being an elderly shade tree mechanic I have overhauled a few of my autos in the past and can still fix basic problems, but with autos being computerized with sensors I had to take it in and pay to get it diagnosed. When I called Carbex back the next day to see what the diagnosis was the first thing I was asked was how many miles were on the spark plugs. I told them I thought quite a few, and he then told me to come down and he would give me the diagnosis and estimate.
When I received the diagnosis it was explained very nicely that even though spark was evident the plugs were extremely worn and needed replacement. Also the valve cover gasket had been leaking oil into the spark plug tubes and they were soaked with oil. The acceleration problem was due to the mass air flow sensor being defective.
The estimate was: 1. Mass Air Flow Est. $ 256.77 Parts, Labor, Tax — 2. Tune w/​Valve Cover Gasket Est. $ 243.77 Parts, Labor, Tax.
I told them it was more than I could afford at the present time. When I got home I remembered that I had very little mileage on the plugs and was thinking of another auto.
I was surprised when told about the oil leak since the auto had never used oil and I just checked the oil before I took it down. After removing the engine cover to inspect the valve cover and plugs, I was once more surprised since not only the gaskets were not leaking but the plug tubes were not soaked with oil and the spark plugs still looked great.
I purchased a new Mass Air Flow Sensor for $ 79.50 and replaced it. It was probably the easiest job I ever did on an auto since the sensor is easy to get at, being on top of the air filter cover. To remove it I only had to unplug a small hose from it and unscrew 2 screws. The procedure to remove and install took less than 5 minutes.
Needless to say I am very unhappy with Carbex since I was told I had problems costing $ 243.77 that did not exist and being charged almost $ 200.00 for 5 minutes labor is to me on the extreme side.
The above might seem normal to most and I am not saying for anyone to not seek their services, but I know I never will again. I do not have any problem with the $ 96.00 diagnostic charge.
I give them 1 star for being friendly, and 1 star for diagnosing the sensor problem correctly.
It has been two months and over 1000 miles since I replaced only the mass air flow sensor and the auto runs great with no problems.
