Great campsite. Had what we needed. Quiet and peaceful. Good separation from neighbors. No complaints about the bathhouse. We never checked out the lakes so can’t comment on them.

I don’t know where to begin. I love my campsite but it is very very desolate. Nobody here but me and Bigfoot. The bathrooms have no light so be sure to use them during the day. Our closest bathroom has(one men and one women) one potty and one open shower with ice cold water. It’s so hot here that the shower was refreshing. ;). Was advised that I needed to buy firewood here from concession stand. Nobody at the greeting hut on entrance. Drove around til I found my spot. No info, no firewood, no concession stand. I do love camping but this may be a bit more primitive than I bargained for. Had to go through the woods looking for twigs to build my pitiful fire. Flies are aggressive and seem to have developed an immunity to citronella. There are also a plethora of little caterpillars everywhere. I have to drive to town in the am and buy bug spray and firewood. That is, if I stay. I like privacy but it is freaky here at night knowing I am alone. The concession stand hasn’t opened this season yet. It’s almost July. So I’m not sure what to say about that. Sure isn’t what I would call thriving. Went to town to check out the local museum/jail. It was cool but closed. I think it’s open every other weekend for five minutes on a Saturday. Right now we are boiling inside our tent because we are too scared to open the windows. I have two kitchen knives on the cooler beside my bed. Just in case Bigfoot decides he is hungry!

Great little camping area very close to Houston. If you like camping under hundred foot pine trees this is a very nice park. Campsites are large and very wooded and not right on top of other campsites like in some parks. Lots of nice walking and biking trails. Bathrooms are not the cleanest but I have all boys so it wasn’t that big of a deal. I will say the bathroom down by the canoe and beach area are a lot nicer and cleaner. The only thing that was disappointing was the lakes are almost dry so don’t expect to fish as the spring that fed the lakes stop flowing in 2013. Overall it is a very nice wooded park that is great for tent camping and RVs. Would give five stars but with the lakes dried up it takes a lot away from the park.

It is so beautiful and quiet out here! Neighbors are so scattered so you get to enjoy nature! Definitely let the kiddos bring their bikes or scooters. The campsites are very unleveled so make sure you bring some levelers or wood. None of that wifi or cable out here so don’t forget your bean bag toss and your playin cards! Showers are close and the water is warm. Don’t forget anything cause the nearest Walmart is ½ an hour away. There is a small grocery store and a dollar general down the road. And if you venture out, make sure you stop by The Hop for burgers & shakes! If your interested in historic sites, the old jail museum, hanging tree, and other historic buildings are nearby. Also plenty of antique stores in Coldspring.

20 miles of well-maintained, fast and flowing MTB trails. Not very technical at all, but a good place for beginners to build confidence and for intermediate/expert riders to work on speed, endurance and cornering. Also good for night riding. The trails dry up very quickly, so this is the perfect place to go after it rains. Take $ 6 cash to get in.

This state recreation areas is another of my favorite locations for an afternoon run out of Humble. The recreation area includes several kinds of camping locations, swimming, clean facilities as well as a very helpful staff. This is an excellent not heavily used area for wildlife watchers and those who enjoy studying nature. In warm weather there is a guarded swimming area, canoeing and fishing. Quiet, clean and inviting Double Lake is a great location for families or those who enjoy quiet time on the western edge of the Big Thicket.

A group of our friends, including all the kiddos go camping here 3 – 4 times a year. We love this place and there are tons of reasons we keep coming back. The trails, the views, the upkeep of sites, the lake… I could go on. The staff is fantastic. i couldn’t say anything bad about this place. Our next trip is in mid April, bags half packed! lol
