Disappointed to report this place is closed but it it has been replaced with a great soap store called Outlaw Soap.

I liked this place. Here’s my review broken down: The pros: Very knowledgeable owner, obviously passionate about his craft and hobby, local man who knows the history of the town, tried items that I’ve never had before, very tasty. If you get sick of wine, cider and perry is a very nice alternative. The cons: Not very generous pours, tasting price does not get deducted from larger purchase Overall I liked this place and will be back again :)

I’m not a wine drinker, so I was excited to find a place that samples ciders. The owner was very passionate, which I appreciated, and for $ 5, I was excited to try 5 different ciders. The thing I didn’t like was the sample size. My husband and I have gone beer tasting at multiple locations and the pours are always on the generous side. Here we were given small glasses with even smaller pours, it was a smaller pour than you would receive if you were tasking wine from an expensive vineyard?! We had also decided to try the port for the extra $ 2 and we were given an even smaller glass! Fun experience, but the owner definitely needs to change his pour size, especially since he was happy to tell us that he likes the end of the day Sunday because that’s when he takes the leftover cider home?!

The experience although not bad, left my wallet much lighter than expected. Tasting will cost you $ 5. I’m ok with that, but later realized this is not deducted from your purchase. Wait, do you want the port — that is $ 2 a piece more. I’m now $ 14 in, with 6 different tiny taste of apple ciders. Per bottle is not cheap either with an average cost around $ 15. If I’m going to pay for tasting, make it worth my while. Think I’ll save the money next time and hit Bevmo where many of these can be found as well. Owner was nice and very helpful. Just felt I didn’t get the bang for your buck.

We ventured into Colfax this weekend, and our first stop was the Colfax Cider House. The owner was so hospitable and very informative, not only about the ciders and perry(a beverage made from pears) we were tasting, but also the rich history of the unique building that houses the Colfax Cider House, and of Colfax. The owner is a native son of the area and a true expert on ciders — he even presses his own. We asked a lot of questions and enjoyed being educated by someone who is passionate about his craft and knows his products. We’d had a long hot drive up I-80 and were feeling spent, and the stop here was refreshing and fun, certainly livening up our afternoon. We tasted and purchased great ciders and learned alot about how ciders are made, and what defines each from the other. If you are heading that way, make a point to stop by, you will not be sorry. For $ 5.00 you can taste the five offerings of the day. Very generous pours, and all the tastings were delicious and different. There was no pressure to purchase from his stock, although we were happy to do so and enjoyed our picks. The Colfax Cider House was just as charming as the town. A great change from wine tastings and such a wonderful host. If you are up that way, don’t miss the opportunity.
