Came here with the children and a friend. Good comfort brunch. Our server Dawn was awesome and gave us excellent tips on the menu, and fast, friendly service. This was really important to us – we’d visited a couple local diners earlier and the lines to get in were simply too long for us to wait. We’ll be back.’

Showed up post gymnastics meet, 9:30pm on a weekend night with a party of 12 to an empty restaurant. Food was decent. Prices were reasonable. Service was friendly and accommodating, but very slow. Probably the result of a slow kitchen. This diner isn’t 24 hours, and doesn’t serve alcohol. Being from NY and growing up with diners, this didn’t meet my standards, but it might be okay for others in a pinch and in need of a later night meal.

Been going here for years. It has had better days: it is clean enough, and food is average. What gives this place a 3 is the service. We went on a busy evening and had Omar as our server. He is attentive, friendly, and quick. Clone him!

Exactly what we expected and craved. We are new to the area and have gone twice. The atmosphere is dated in a grimy(not retro) way. BUT the service has always been super welcoming, attentive, and friendly in a laid back neighborhood kind of a way. The food is consistent, predictable, average diner fare with some extra Greek offerings for added flavor. I’m picky about my omelets and theirs are so good they’re all I’ve had. They aren’t rubbery, the extras are cooked perfectly rather than just tossed in at the end and there’s a good balance of veggies to cheese. Prices are average/fair. We will definitely be coming back. If they updated the inside, I’d give it 5 stars.

Burgers and sausage were almost inedible, french toast and fries were decent, building is dilapidated, a little smelly, and our cushions torn and uncomfortable. The water tasted bad. Our waiter was pleasant and very nice. Wouldn’t return.

My husband and I went to the College Park, Maryland Plato’s restaurant a few days ago and had the following dishes; my husband had the chicken stroganoff while I had French toast, eggs, and bacon with a rootbeer drink(we shared a mozzarella stick appetizer). My husband and I both agree that the food tasted delectable and the waiter was cordial. Overall, Plato’s Diner in College Park, Maryland is perfect for those looking for food at an affordable price with a savory taste.

Menu gas changed some and they have done some upgrades. Service is still great for the most part. Have not returned yet for dinner but will.

Awful experience. We were 2 of 6 customers in the resturant. Was served by a taller, blonde male server. Dropped off water with our menus. Took our orders, just a an order of pancakes and bacon, and a banana split. He brought our food out separately, and did not give us silverware or napkins. Had to wait ten minutes minutes after receiving food to see him again and ask for silverware and napkins, which he was really rude about and made me feel like a burden for asking for utensils. I also politely asked for more water and inquired if my bacon was on the way — to which he said yes, but he then disappeared for a half hour and I never got the bacon, ended up having to pay for it, and had to ask the host for our check because we as well as her had no idea where he went.

Just about all the restaurants on Baltimore Ave closes at or around 9:30/10:00 at night. So what happens if you had a late night and want to eat? You’re stuck with a limited few options — Blaze Pizza, Subway, and 7-Eleven(unless you don’t mind hitting them bars on Route 1). Plato’s Diner ends up being a good alternative. I’ve been to it a couple times now, both after 10:00 pm. There weren’t too many people dining during my trips there(surprise, surprise). I ordered the same thing both times — the tuna melt. It comes with a side of fries. Last night however, I requested the side to be changed to mac and cheese instead. I like the relaxed vibe you get going to a diner, but the downside is excessive grease. Sigh. The same sandwich I ordered, if I made it at home there wouldn’t be any grease at all; it might have a buttery taste, but certainly no grease. Even the mac and cheese was basically soaking in grease. Besides the excessive grease, I was disappointed because of the booth we had been directed to. Barely two or three other parties may have been there at the time, and we got seated somewhat towards the back. We felt like kids sitting at our booth — the table was too high and the seats were too low. I will most probably dine at Plato’s again, despite these couple disappointments.

Happy to see that on my last visit they had gotten rid of most of the terrible white-washed plants that were everywhere! This place has decent food, nothing great. Prices are right and the desserts look pretty good, although I haven’t tried any of them. Not my first choice of places but a nice fallback if nothing else sounds good.

You know what you are getting when you go to a diner and the diner ambiance is part of the charm… except here at Plato’s Diner. It’s dirty. There is debris on the floor next to the garbage can that I am facing and none of the servers seem to notice. The carpet is covered with food as is my waitress’ apron. Not very appetizing as I wait for my order. I’m googling other options.

I’ve been to Plato’s for years and the food has always been pretty solid. This morning I went and had the Plato’s Omelette. It has bacon, ham, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and American cheese. It comes with toast and home fries. It was a good meal and the portion was large and filling. :-) The server was attentive and the staff overall are friendly. This place is definitely a win.

I have now returned several times to Plato’s Diner and feel confident in bumping up my rating to four stars. I base this update solely on the food, which is solid and consistent. I’ve tried a few more items on the menu, including these highly recommended choices: vegetarian delight salad(which in essence is a large Greek salad with dolmades and falafel), baked vegetarian moussaka, and grilled egg royale with homefries. This last dish was AMAZING! It’s simple and delicious, fried eggs, swiss cheese, mushrooms, and thousand island on sourdough. I changed my bread to rye. I am not a fan of thousand island dressing, but it was just perfect on this sandwich. I also couldn’t believe the price, it was less than $ 6 for an excellent sandwich and large portion of buttery home fries. I can’t wait to go back and have it again. We tend to go late at night, when nothing else is open and we need a meal. Lately, there is no one hosting. We tend to find someone at the front working on the cashier and we are ignored. Waiters walk by and nothing, it’s like we’re note even there. I have to walk into the restaurant after a few minutes of waiting and ask to be seated. Once we’re in our both the service is good.

It hurts me to write this review. Plato’s has been one of my favorite diners in the area. There were days when I’d drive across town and probably past a handful of other diners just to get to Plato’s. But this last visit left me disappointed. I’ve never had a breakfast from Plato’s as bad as I had on Sunday. My usual is the French shorty, Plato’s omelette & home fries. The home fries were extremely bland. No taste. I had to salt & season em up just to digest them. I don’t have high blood pressure, but you couldn’t tell by the home fries I got. Maybe the cook thought I needed a no sodium alternative, hell I dunno. I usually love their home fries, but these were awful. The omelette had all the veggies & meat, but where was the egg? Wasn’t much egg at all. It wasn’t horrible, but it wasn’t great either. The French toast triangles were about the same as I remembered. That is what saved the meal. But overall, if the food continues to taste like this, I’m done. I’ll give them another shot because I’ve been a patron for so long. But this trip was surprising and disappointing. If the quality returns, I’ll raise my star level on the rating. But for now I just can’t do it!!!

The atmosphere was like a typical diner. The service was okay. The coffee that was ordered took longer than the other drinks to arrive. Other than that, it was okay. I ordered the turkey wrap($ 9?) with a side Caesar salad rather than French fries.. The turkey wrap was alright. It tasted alright, but could have been better. I also tried a gyro that some one at my table did not finish. It was okay at best too. I am a fan of tzakati sauce, but there was not too much on the gyro. The meat was okay. The reuben that was ordered by another member of my party did not look right. The meat was very dark and tasted a little funny. Will I go back? Yeah. My rule is 3 times at a diner before ruling it out unless something unusual happens.

Service is always so-so when I come here. The waffle is great. Tried the buffalo wings and they aren’t really buffalo wings, they tasted like honey barbecue wings with a slight kick to them. Overall decent food and so-so service.

This place was awful. I went to visit my daughter and go out to dinner. She ordered steak Chesapeake. It came with a disgusting version of hollandaise sauce. Once the waiter finally came by, we sent it back. I ordered chicken Parmesan. It was okay when I ate it, but as soon as I left my stomach started hurting. We sat in a booth and the table was tipped/tilting so badly we didn’t want to put anything on the end. The only good thing were the hot rolls. I will never go back there again. I don’t know how they stay in business. I gave 1 star because I had to give a rating. I would prefer to give no stars.

My fiancé and I used to go here all the time when I was in grad school at the University of Maryland. The food is American diner food with a Greek spin. On weeknights, there are Greek specials, which I recommend. Portions are huge and the quality is… well, slightly better than typical diner quality. If you go for weekend brunch, expect to be surrounded by loud and/or hungover UMD students, and you will have to wait in line until a table opens up. If you go during the week, you’ll mostly be surrounded by old people. The service depends on the server. Most are great, but the last time we were here, our waiter seated us and forgot about us. 20 minutes later, he had not even come by with water and menus, so we got up and left. We haven’t been back since, partly because of the service but also because we grew tired of the food.
