This two-sided historical marker was placed by the CT Historical Commission on 1975. It references the history of Canton, it’s Indian roots, it’s spinoff from Simsbury, Canton’s first meeting house(1763), it’s first post office(1798), it’s 1806 incorporation, and it’s industrial and manufacturing heritage. The side of the marker facing Route 44 is in pretty good shape, but the reverse side is falling into a state of disrepair, as faded paint and blotches are noticeable.
