The Columbia American Legion… where do I start? This is a social club which means you have to pay to be a member. Depending upon your military or civilian status you could pay between $ 15-$ 25 a year to be a member here(and yes, people with absolutely no military background can become social members). What you get in exchange for your dues is the most amazingly cheap drinks you will ever find… Mixed drinks and shots $ 2, 12 oz draft 75 cents, 16 oz draft $ 1, 3.75 small pitchers. It really doesn’t get cheaper than this. There is also a small kitchen that has burgers fries that kind of thing on the weekend… food here is hit or miss, heavy on the miss tho lately. Additionally, if you are offended by thick disgusting smell of the day’s many cigarettes as well as the sunk in acrid odor of old stale smoke this is not the place for you. ventilation is minimal, windows are nonexistent. It is a given that I have to wash whatever I wear there in a strong detergent immediately after leaving. There is a pool table(free pool on sunday, pool leagues on monday and tuesday, scaryoke(karaōke) every friday, occassional dances, weekly wednesday night bingo, and small games of chance(pull tabs, punch boards, daily book drawing). Compared to some of the other illustrious(read: mindblowingly scary and white ghetto) establishments in Columbia, the American Legion may be your best bet.
