I love libraries and I’ve always been a geek, so it probably comes as no surprise to know that in high school, I’d hide out in the school library during lunch chatting with the librarians or with my nose in a book. When I moved to Columbia, I wasn’t expecting much in the way of libraries. Life has taught me to have low expectations. I’ve been pleasantly surprised and immensely pleased with the Richland Co Library, specifically my local branch, Lower Richland, on Garners Ferry. Staff– Very helpful and friendly. Go above and beyond to assist patrons. Selection– Excellent selection of new books and media. Fines– What’s a Unilocal review without including costs? Even the fines for Richland Co. isn’t that bad. Just a couple of nickels a day for overdue items.

Gotta love the Richland County Public Library! The Southeast branch is located on the corner of Garners Ferry Road and Greenlawn Drive. There is ample parking both in the front and the side, which is nice compared to the Main Branch on Assembly which oftentimes requires the use of the street coin-operated meters. Be warned that there are some potholes at the side driveway. I find it easiest to enter the library from the Greenlawn side, as opposed to turning off Garners Ferry and risk someone behind you rear-ending you. Inside, you will find 3 of the easy-to-use self checkout machines available. Or, you can get help from the friendly librarians. After hours(or if you are just too darned lazy to walk into the library), the outside book/video/CD/DVD returns boxes are located on the Greenlawn side.
