Great cinnamon roles and kolaches– the REAL kind– not the fake«sausage in some dough» things. But if you like those, this places has great pigs in a blanket too! Wish they were open on Mondays — seems that’s usually when I’m there. But everyone deserves a day off!

My name is Darryl L. and i was born in 1963 in this great town of Columbus, Tx When i was kid the great Little Bakery was just across the street from Columbus Elementary School and us kids fondly called it the littlestore. Your parents had to write you a permission slip to get to cross the street to get there as it was a closed campus. Well i got my dear Mom to write mea slip and boy was i happy. The present owners(great friendlypeople) I think grandmother was busy baking bread mmmm delicious!!! She was also busy making great kolaches scrumptious pigs ina blanket and the best part she also made awsome hamburgers. and guess what price15 cents!!! They were the best biggest juiciest burgers around The wonderful lady who owned the placealways had a smile and would patiently wait on us kids to make up our minds on just what wonderful goodie to get. Now air condtioning was not much in use in those days so I don“t know how she still managed to smile on those hotdays but she was always nice. I know she is right now in Heaven baking those wonderful treat. Oh, Thank GOD for the memories. Anyways from a trip down memory lane lets get to the present. The place is still the greatest. They have the best pigs in a blanket ata low price Sorry Hruska your pigs and pricey prices is just hype They also have wonderful bread dough like Kolaches that they fill with plenty of good homemade filling. Soooo, if your passing thru Columbus Texas on I-10 or Hwy 71 stop in for a treat, but just like grandma used to say get there early because once thier gone thier go unless youwait til the next day(worth it) I consider this place to be the best kept bakery in Texas. Many a bakery has come toColumbus and maybe they had a dream, only a dream that they could put the Lil” Bakery out of business, but alas the Little Bakery had definatly withstood the test of closing I hope that they will continue to serve up those good pigs and pastries for years to come… And as Bob Hope used to say Thank GOD for the memories.

The Little Bakery has been providing my family with kolaches whenever we visit our ranch in Columbus for years now. When I went up to the Ranch for a mini-staycation this past week, I knew I had to stop by. There simply is no substitute for a baked-with-love kolache from Czech country. The Little Bakery isn’t a misnomer – it’s not much bigger than a shed, and only fits two or three people inside at a time. If you’re expecting a wide variety of savory, meaty types of kolaches a la the Kolache Factory chain, I’m afraid you’re going to be disappointed – because those aren’t kolaches at all. If you ask for a kolache in central Texas, you’re going to get a delicious open-faced pastry with fruit, poppyseed or cream cheese filling scooped into a bread well. Klobasnek is the proper term for the closed meat variety, and you’ll be able to get your pick of three varieties here. The kolaches themselves are big, hearty and filling, and keep well. I bought a half-dozen and ate them over a series of days, and even had some to bring home to my boyfriend. The sausage and cheese klobasnek was out-of-this-world good. Instead of a storebought link inside, there was an obviously local and fresh smoked sausage that knocked my socks off. Closed Sunday and Monday(so I heartbreakingly found out at 6:45am on this past Monday morning). Go EARLY if you want the good stuff, because once it’s gone, it’s gone. And I mean EARLY – they open at 5am. Farm folks don’t faffle around. And bring CA$H.
