Been coming here for 40 years. Rosehill is an old school southern fish camp that has always been consistently great with food and service. No frills, no wine list, just a place where the food is the focus and the servers are friendly local folks. This kind of restaurant is a dying breed and I hope that parents will pass this experience down to their children, I know that we do.

Went on a Wednesday and was fairly packed to my surprise, but the weight time wasn’t to long to get in. Food was rather good, the waitress came around enough to check on us and refill our drinks.

First of all, the oysters were served on a plastic, serving tray, with no liner or anything! And they were small, some were really small. The Trout didn’t seem fresh, which is strange since this is a fish market. My shrimp were juicy under all that coating. Just made it home in time to hit the head, if you know what I mean… don’t know if it was the shrimp or the cocktail sauce. Sorry, I can’t recommend this place.

Please don’t waste your money, appetite or time on this place. If you’ve never been out of Columbus, GA this maybe the best seafood in the world to you, WRONG. I had a shrimp and scallop platter with a salad and hush puppies. The salad was just lettuce and salad dressing, I’ve had better shrimp in the walmart freezer section and the scallops were tasteless. I’m positive the waitress had some type of substance abuse problem she swayed the entire time she was taking the order and forgot most of the order. The ambience is straight out of the 60’s and it’s a elderly person haven.

First of all., I gotta say that I love oysters. I got addicted to them in NOLA and I’m in constant search of good and fair priced oysters, now and then. Well, this place just hit the spot. I went straight to the oyster bar and had 2.5 dozens myself. They are opened right in front of you, thus very fresh. Service was excellent. I’m bad with names but shut out to the nice gentleman who was serving us the oysters. It’s a tough job., but he had a nice attitude and a smile! Thanks!

Best Fried Catfish & Oysters in Columbus. This place in an iconic staple of the area. If your from here you know what I mean. If you are passing through this place is a must if you like fried fish or seafood. The only place in Columbus that I know of that allows you to bring a cooler in with beer. Whole fried catfish is my favorite and is about 10 – 12 bucks.

Awesome fried shrimp, raw oysters, fried oysters, and catfish. Great prices! As someone else mentioned, the«whole» catfish have the filet removed from one side(never seen that before). Go early because it gets super-crowded very quickly!

Best oysters and fry catfish in Columbus! Family own for 50 years. Affordable and tasty. True southern sea food. Better than most of places on Gulf Coast.

I have lived in Columbus and ate at Rosehill most of my life. The family almost always wants to go there. I can say safely I trust the RAW oysters here more than any other, but dining in is not for me. The fish was greasy and pretty well unseasoned. The fried oysters really did not taste fresh. I could go on and on and I am not. The food was meh and the service was good. Not above anything. If there was just some kind of seasoning on the food I might go one more star.

No fancy bells and whistles, just good fried seafood. There are not a lot of healthy choices but that’s not why most people keep coming back. We had the oysters, the fried scallops and catfish. The staff was very pleasant also. Overall very nice experience.

Am amazing place! Love oysters and the hush puppies! Being from California I’m usually paying 3 $ each oyster. Got a dozen for 8 $!! So happy I visit every time I’m in the area.

Nothing particularly outstanding, but solid fish camp style food at a very reasonable price.

I ordered the seafood platter to go and found it very disappointing. The white box it came in had a lot of large grease spots on the bottom, a thimble full of coleslaw and everything was jumbled inside. Overpriced version of Captain D’s. This was my first experience and definitely my last with Rose Hill.

The significantly fishy smell that hit me when I entered Rose Hill wasn’t a vote of confidence, nor was the few people that were in the expansive dining room during the late weekday afternoon of my visit. I still kept an open mind as I ordered a half mackerel meal. This, too smelled a little fishy. Also, the sauté job performed on the fish wasn’t very good — it was pretty greasy. Unseasoned, to boot. And the number of bones I found still in the fish reached into the double digits, though after picking at about half of it I was ready to go. As for the sides, the frozen fries were a little stale and the coleslaw had a bit of a bitter element I didn’t care for. I liked the hushpuppies, though. Looking at the few newspaper reviews for Rose Hill by the register which reassured readers that the place was still good every few years, I noticed how the restaurant’s operating hours have shortened over the years, and with the 32 hours per week the place is open along with the large number of waitresses that were sitting around with nothing to do, the place should have been busier. But those reviews looked at least a few years old at this point, and it didn’t seem like that magic is there anymore. If you’re looking for shrimp or oysters or whatever, Rose Hill might be your cheapest option, but certainly for things like catfish, Ezell’s is a much better option in the price range.

I’ve been knowing and coming to rosehill since childhood and nothing has changed. The food is good and fresh, hands down the best seafood in the city. Maybe I’m pay too much attention to things, majority of the waitress are caucasian and one Asian, but the kitchen the cooking is completely African American. I’m not saying that this business is prejudice or treats any customer or employees differently because of race, I’ve never felt any unfair treatment as a customer, but it has been this type of working environment since I was a child.

Rose Hill seems to be holding tight to a tradition of quality service and simple formula of fried fish, huspuppies and everything you expect from a southern«fish camp». The restaurant complex includes a seafood market and oyster bar in the same building. However there is no reason to suspect what you see in the market will make your plate. The top items include catfish and flounder, the shrimp are iqf and ready for deep frying, The oysters also come in bulk and convert to the fryer or stew. According to a longtime waitress, the lines have grown shorter but business remains brisk. During our visit on a Saturday afternoon very few customers were younger than 50. The portions and options from salad to baked potato still rates Rose Hill a cut above Captain D and Red Lobster for a fried fish feast.

My friends of fifty years took me here for dinner last night. I wanted whole catfish which I couldn’t get the other day when I had dinner at another seafood eatery in Columbus — they told me, because the weather was so hot, the«quality» wasnt good enough. We had a wonderful time! The place is huge but the service was very good. It seems like folks are frequent diners at Rose Hill as everybody appears to know everyone. I was thrilled to see raw oysters on the menu, at a reasonable price(you could never find them so inexpensively in San Francisco) and I ordered two dozen. The menu is very extensive with dozens of choices from fried to grilled fish of al kinds — catfish, mullet, mackeral, scallops, shrimp, etc. My fried whole catfish were excellent. The hushpuppies didn’t compare, however, to Ezell’s. Hushpuppies, aside, I think Rose Hill, will be my choice from now on. If I want hushpuppies, I’ll just stop by Ezell’s and get a couple of orders to go.

I’ve been eating at Rose Hill since I was a baby and it seems like nothing has changed. The seafood seems pretty fresh. If you order anything fried, it all tastes the same and seems very greasy to me. The broiled flounder is my favorite here! My grandparents love it– and they do accomodate older folks nicely by letting them order smaller portions(from the kid’s menu). Not too bad, but not the best seafood joint I’ve ever been to either!
