Nice atmosphere for a relaxed casual lunch or dinner. I ordered the Greek pasta. It sounded and looked good yet the dish was very bland. My boyfriend got the chicken ravioli which was much better. Decent place but not sure if I would return anytime soon.

Reputation is strong. I find that as many times as I’ve been there the food quality is drastically going down hill. It’s so close that I’d go often but I’ve given up on it. Zero taste… costs are WAY too high for food based on the quality, presentation and creativity. Staff, not bad but definitely professional-style. Environment adequate for a uniquely reverent old establishment. Is not recommend it… I’d definitely advise th be cautious.

Pretty typical bar food I guess. The roast beef and chicken salad combo on the Mother Mohawk was a little weird. The turkey Reuben was average. The fries and onion rings were definitely frozen from a bag. It seems like a neighborhood joint that’s been around for a long time. People probably mostly come here for drinks and food is just an afterthought.

Enjoyed the Mother Mohawk and fries for a business lunch. I had high hopes for this sandwich. Chicken salad and roat beef. But it didn’t hit the spot for me. Was wanting more flavor out of the. chicken salad.

Had dinner at The Old Mohawk a few times, always enjoyed the food. Their veggie burger and fish and chips are tasty, and I love their nachos(can get a little messy sometimes). The restaurant is located in German Village, which is a great location to explore if you’re not from around the area.

I started dining at The Old Mohawk back when I was in law school. I revisited over the weekend and felt that it was time for me to write a Unilocal review. The Old Mohawk has been in the German Village neighborhood for years and is rich with history. The building is old but warm and has an atmosphere that embraces you when you walk in. The menu is filled with items of intrigue. I always find it hard to select a meal here because there is a lot to choose from. On my most recent visit, I had the spinach and artichoke dip which was delicious as well as the beef stew in a bread bowl. The stew itself is delicious but I was not a fan of the bread bowl. It was a wheat bread bowl and the sweet flavor of the bread was not a good balance for the stew. That being said, the stew was so good that it really is hard to complain. I wanted to try the turtle soup but my boyfriend was deeply disturbed by the idea that the turtles may be kept in a mud pit in the basement(as it says on the menu) and so I refrained. He had the quesadilla and the sweet potato tots and he appeared to enjoy them. They also have a nice drink menu. They have a lot of options and the drinks are well prepared. The service is great. We did wait a while for our table but it was also the weekend of the Arnold Classic and it is a sign that the restaurant is wildly popular. Our server was very informative and friendly. He made recommendations and prepared us for the fact that the kitchen was running a little slow due to the heavy traffic in the restaurant. We had a really nice time and I am sure we will back again soon.

A German Village icon, a Columbus icon, the Mohawk has held up well. GV used to be my neighborhood, and I came here once in awhile. That was, jeez, more than 20 years ago. It is as good as I remembered; heck, better. Met some friends here for lunch; noon on Sunday it was just starting to get busy, so we got right in. Service was excellent, start to finish. The menu is generally comfort food, very well done, but there are a few surprises. I had a cup of turtle soup– thick broth, kind of like mom’s beef vegetable soup but with shreds of turtle. Which doesn’t taste like chicken. Maybe pork is the closest? Anyway, meaty, tasty, satisfying soup. I also had a seasonal special, artichoke beignets. Because why not? They were deep fried nuggets of deliciousness, with bits of artichoke inside(veggies, so healthy, right?) There was creamy cheese inside, just enough to balance the crispy crust, and a nice but unnecessary dipping sauce. A good«light» lunch overall. My friends had reubens, which they said were good, and a grilled cheese, which sounded«okay, not great.»(I pointed him toward Melt, as a starting point.) There’s a nice wine list, an okay beer selection, and prices in general are decent. It was a bit noisy with loud music and conversation, but still a good experience. The building is interesting, of course. Parking wasn’t bad on Sunday, but it is GV so it could be an issue.

The Mohawk has been around for a LONG time, so you can’t really knock the consistency it brings to the table. Obviously, people love the place, and when I was here for lunch on a Monday, it was packed. Is it the best restaurant in Columbus? Far from it, but it delivers solid food and has a pretty large menu, so you’re bound to find something you like. This was my first time eating here, and it took awhile to decide on one item. I ended up with the spicy buffalo chicken sandwich and a bowl of the chorizo soup that was on special. At least, I think it was some kind of chorizo soup from what I remember, and it was delicious. If you see it on the board, go for it. My buffalo chicken was pretty standard. I enjoyed it, but I didn’t need to come back the next day to get it again. It was definitely your standard pub fair, and I can appreciate that, because that’s some of my favorite food. However, I don’t usually go out of my way for it, and being far from me, this place isn’t the exception. My friends, who have been there more than I have, say the Adobo Pork quesadilla is the way to go. That, or the Firebird, and both of those sounds right up my alley as well, so if I find myself back down around German Village, I’d give one of those a shot. I love the neighborhood tavern atmosphere, and our server was really nice. I imagine if I lived within a half mile radius of the place, I’d be here often. It looked like they had a decent tap selection as well. Good for the owners to keep up the building and continue the great history and tradition of this restaurant.

It was good. The normal bar food. Wasn’t great or bad so I’m giving 3 stars. The waitress wasn’t great, just good. She didn’t seem excited to see us, so that’s just telling me she’s there for a check. Sorry. Didn’t seem friendly off the top but did say thank you have a good day. I had the deep fried mac and cheese. The dip was tasty. The roast beef, chicken salad sandwich on rye. It was good. My fiancé had a cheeseburger. I only ate half my sandwich. Idk i wouldn’t rush back. If they were friendlier that could be helpful. You always treat people like family if they’re eating at your place. Right?

I stopped in for lunch on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it here. Parking wasn’t awful — which is usually what I expect anywhere in German Village. We waited about 5 minutes inside so we could sit at a table instead of the bar. The décor at the Mohawk is interesting — there are a lot of things to look at, but somehow it works. I was wearing my business casual work-wear, but there were people wearing hoodies and jeans. It’s a very low-key place — which in my opinion is the best kind of place! My friend and I split the artichoke appetizer — which was exceptionally delicious. It was like eating fried spinach and artichoke balls. Definitely recommend. I had the turkey ruben. It was great! Grilled to perfection and topped with a mountain of slaw(because sauerkraut is not my jam). Served up with some kettle chips and it was a delightful lunch. The price was right too. I think I paid maybe $ 12 for lunch with an ice tea. I’ll definitely be back!

$ 10 salad made from rotting lettuce. See the photo I uploaded. Unfortunately, the service matched the quality of the lettuce. I think the server was put off that we only wanted a light lunch and opted to share a salad. She was rude and didn’t even apologize after we asked for fresh lettuce and showed her the plate of disgusting brown greens. Skip this place! Plenty of other spots in German Village to dine.

My boyfriend and I were visiting Columbus on a day-trip from hometown of Pittsburgh. We drove around the German Village area looking for something to eat. I am so glad we chose Mohawk’s! It looks a little dive-y from the outside, and their menu is pretty assorted so I figured everything would be just average. I was so wrong! The kettle chips were a yummy start to the meal. The boyfriend got the Monday special of choose your own pasta, deciding on the blackened chicken Alfredo. Amazing presentation and equally amazing taste!!! I got the chicken quesadilla, which was a solid dish and generously portioned. Desert of buckeye millionaire cake was downright decadent. The place had an intimate, trendy vibe with dim lighting and cool wall decorations, prices were reasonable, and our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. If we are ever back in Columbus we are visiting the Old Mohawk again!

One of my favorite places to go in German Village to eat with friends. The ambiance is so welcoming and unique, nestled in the lovely German Village. My favorite dish is the Cajun seafood pasta. I highly recommend it. The Mother Mohawk is also great but the sides and some of the other dishes are just so so. The chip are simply Lay’s for example.

It was meant to be hush-hush, or so the legend goes, but word got out anyways. A small group of locals, keeping their distance, gathered near the corner of Kossuth and Mohawk Streets to catch a glimpse of the steel plated 341model Cadillac as it putted towards on the cobblestone and parked. The chrome of its bumper, headlights, and exquisite ornament glittered like tiny stars in the hot afternoon sun; its green paint job kept perfect and clean impressed the group – giving undue credence for blood money turned status symbol. There was no air conditioning in the 1930s, and the long drive on the national road from the bootleg dealings to HQ was unbearable after an hour or two. Here was midway. The underground figure stumbled out of the car; the Italian suit that hung on his heavy frame was soaked with moisture, his banded fedora spotted with sweat. He pushed back his doorman who tried to help, abuse was part of his job. A welcome party of flappers in fur, suit adore conmen, and a regal Madam, feigning cordiality to hide their nerves, meet him with measured charm. They entered the Café there, the Mohawk, which was then a speakeasy, a house of ill-repute. Licentiousness can cool the toxic desires if not the physical body; perhaps it was the summer before Ness clicked the cuffs. It is not factually known if Al Capone visited the Mohawk, though it is easy to imagine he did as I have. After all the Old Mohawk dates that far back, and was a speakeasy and brothel. The joint retains much of that charm, siting in among the residences in the brick store with its red canopy, large front window, and 1920s streetlight held by a ivory arm and hand. The entrance itself is old and wooden, emanating its charm the first step in. The place has decent spacing. It is a restaurant more than a bar, with tables scattered under expose brick. They play up it historic past; with wall décor of vintage photos and items, in among modern flare. It does have a sizable bar. It is not my favorite place in the area though, which is not really a negative considering its local competition. I’ve love it for years though. The burgers here are not the thing to get – good but you miss out. Brats are the item I’d suggest – they are just so damn good. Many would say they rank with Schmidt’s but I wouldn’t say that exactly. They are Kobe Bryant next to Michael Jordan. They are a bit different from the tourist trap giant; less authentic but still not tailgate throw ons – if you get what I mean. The other items are great too – spanning typical bar food to wowsers. Last night I was in the mood for a club sandwich which was price well and I expected to be standard – it wasn’t. It was the best Club I had this year. Service here has always been excellent. The draft choices range outside the ordinary a bit. They make decent mix drinks, though not a correct Long Island but I am picky with that. Negatives: they can get busy and there is no room to wait inside. There are benches under the canopies, but that can be hard when it rains;(especially this summer after we have relocated the city to the Pacific Northwest apparently.) The wait can be long as many think this is more a bar and so will spend hours yucking it up even at a table. But it is the GV, you find a good place to eat where a group can get in quickly during peak times give me a call. It is a good place to stop. You might be eating in a spot Al Capone ate. .. or did something.

This was my first time here and I’ve lived in Columbus all my life! Boy, I didn’t realize what I was missing out on! I had the chicken quesadilla, hubby had the homemade meatloaf, kid 1 had crust less pizza with mushrooms and kid 2 had Mac and cheese. I tried all of these and they were all simply amazing! We also had the millionaire pie for dessert, simply delicious! I can’t wait to come back, and when the in laws visit from out of town I’m bringing them with me!!!

This was my last meal in Columbus, Ohio so maybe I was just feeling nostalgic. However, I have driven by here many times and never gone. Its a cute place in German Village. Parking on a Thursday night was a piece of cake(we literally parked for free right in front of the restaurant) and it was pretty empty. The atmosphere is very homey. We were relaxed after a few stressful days of packing so that was nice. Our server(sorry I forgot her name!) was friendly and awesome. A genuinely happy server always makes a restaurant experience infinitely better. Also, she talked me into a Bodhi which is always a good decision. As far as the food, my fiancé had the black bean burger with hummus, and tons of various roasted vegetables. She really liked it. It came with chips and salsa that were good(though we killed the salsa in about two bites). I had the Ghost Sliders appetizer as my main course. Four sliders with ghost pepper cheese onion and lettuce with chips for $ 9.99. Filled me up and seemed worth it. Not only was it hot, but the heat tasted good(always better than heat that just makes you cry). The star of the show though was desert. BUCKEYEMILLIONAIRECAKE. Peanu-butter cheesecake… topped with chocolate mousse… topped with whipped cream. Amazing. Split between the two of us and had trouble finishing(trouble because I shouldn’t have eaten the whole thing not because of taste). The price was right with each meal being $ 10 and dessert being only $ 6. Great place for a casual meal.

Great little German Village landmark, but still not a huge fan. Service: Very nice, but slow. Not sure if it was the kitchen or just how busy they were. It was a Friday night after all. Parking: It’s German Village… find some street space Food: — MacNCheese bites were nothing fantastic. I thought the gouda would make these better than I expected, but in the end it tasted like deep-fried Kraft MacNCheese. — Quesadillas were nothing to talk about either. The HUGE Mohawk and the chicken quesadillas were not overly flavorful and not worth getting again. Price: Decent for the experience and for German Village $ 35-$ 40 for two entrees, soda and an appetizer. Overall: There’s gotta be better food than what we experienced, but I don’t know if I feel the motivation to go back when there are better things in German Village. I’d say go visit for the experience and nostalgia.

I was looking for somewhere interesting to eat dinner for a casual Saturday evening in German Village, and remembered that I had bookmarked the Old Mohawk for turtle soup. Ah hah, I thought to myself, just how adventurous is potential-new-boyfriend? After two hours of intensive book-browsing at the Book Loft and a good stroll and sit in Schiller Park, we moseyed over to the Old Mohawk, which was busy, but we got a table in the front corner within a few minutes. The ambiance is a bit too loud for first-date conversation, even though we were in a quieter corner of the restaurant. We both got the«½ Salad or Soup & Sandwich» — the waiter was kind enough to explain that I could get a ½ salad AND soup(the conjunctions in the menu description are slightly deceptive), so I got a bowl of the turtle soup and the nature salad. I probably wouldn’t have known that the soup was turtle without someone telling me, since it was just like a tomato-based vegetable soup with chunks of meat. I always forget how much I don’t like raw walnuts though, but after pushing them to the side of the plate, the salad was very good. Patrick(cutesy moniker still being discussed) had a Reuben with his bowl of soup, and suggested that I make a note that the iced tea is made from a powder and not actually brewed. Our server kept our waters and the tea filled throughout the meal. It’s not really a scene that I would immediately revisit, but if someone suggests it again, I’d come back. And I’ll have to keep an eye out for the tilapia dinner that Paul F. raved about in his review(I did not see it on the current menu).

I’ve been to the Old Mohawk many a time over the years. It is definitely one of my favorites in the German Village area. The locally owned business has been around for 70 years. So, they must be doing something right. It’s not a particularly large place. It’s an old brick building typical for the area with lots of windows. It definitely has that old world neighborhood charm of a pub. Folks are pretty friendly here. Walk-in and wait for someone to direct you to a table. Seating can be cramped, especially when busy. I think over the years, I have really only had to wait for a table once or twice. About the parking — it is street parking. I’ve never had an issue locating a spot, although my parallel parking sure needs some practice! The turtle soup is one of their most notables. The first time I tried it … I thought … but little friendly turtles? Once you get past the unusual of «turtle» it is delicious! Its similar to a beef vegetable soup in a tomato based broth. Tonight, I had one of their special sandwiches, the Mohawk Garbage Burger. It was an excellent burger, probably one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I’m not sure of everything that was on it, but there were french fries, fried onions, mac ‘n cheese bites, tomato, lettuce, barbeque sauce. It was served on an onion bread bun and required a toothpick to hold it all together. It normally came with chips, but I upgraded to their onion rings. My dining partner ordered their BELT sandwich which he raved about. It did look really yummy. The menu offers a host of different pub options, from appetizers, soups, salads, entrée’s and sandwiches. I’d say the sandwiches are there main focus. Even though they are located in German Village, the menu is not especially focused on German cuisine. They do offer reuben sandwiches. Prices are quite reasonable with most items under $ 10. Portions are good sized. They have a full bar. Service was excellent. Their servers are quick, attentive, quite personable and know how to navigate the tight space as well. So, if you are looking for a good casual dining experience, you will want to give this place a try.
