Lovely animals! This is an awesome stop if you’re heading west from MKE. Who doesn’t like to feed the animals? Stop inside the gas station to grab carrots for a buck or ice cream cones full of feed for a quarter. The pig is quite elusive, the alpacas may spit in your face and be prepared with bug spray depending on time of year or you’ll get chewed up!

This is just a little petting zoo that’s part of the best gas station between Milwaukee and Madison. You have to stop anyway, may as well be here. Exit 275, Oconomowoc, it’s right off I-94. It’s partly cheezy tourist trap in the spirit of the pre-Interstate U.S. Highway days, but the«general store,» theme belies some surprisingly high end groceries. The general store has good crushed tomatoes, pickles, cheese, smoked meats, pastries, coffee, and sandwiches. They have high octane fuel for motorcycles or boats, free tire air(!), friendly service, they can actually give directions(!), and clean restrooms. And, this little zoo. This is the best place for a break if you’re driving along this I-94 corridor, if you have children, or are still in touch with your inner 8 year old.

I love this place. I really do. As a frequent traveler from MKE to Madcity, I quickly tire and can’t wait for my standard rest, located right at the Ixonia exit. As I pull off of the highway, I feel my stress level dropping. Pull in to the parking lot, go into the gas station and buy two of the biggest carrots you will ever see for $ 1.00 Head over to the zoo — the mules will see you and your big carrots as soon as you turn the corner. Who will get your carrots? The gimpy Alpaca? The grumpy pig? Or will it be the mini horse? Only you can decide. Better yet, drop five bucks in the box and buy enough for everyone. Your soul will thank you.

Tired of being on the road? Why not stop and stretch your legs at this small farm animal zoo?! You can pick up some treats for the animals at the general store — carrots and such, or there are food machines that take quarters in the zoo where you can buy some feed. There are miniature horses, donkeys, roosters, cows, alpacas, a pig, peacocks and more.
