I hate buying mattresses. I mean really — it’s one of those things that you don’t do often, only every ten years or so(if even that often), and when you do, you go into a store with about thirty mattresses, and you have what seems like no time at all and then you have to choose a mattress simply by lying down on it for a few minutes. You sleep on this thing for hours at night(for those of you that can sleep for hours), and in a few minutes, in your street clothes, you’re going to decide by lying on a bare mattress? I don’t think so. The last time I actually bought a mattress was when I moved to Charlotte, in 1996. I learned a bit about mattress construction, and I decided that I really didn’t care. I just want something comfortable. So this time around, I spent some time lying on most of those 30 or so floor models, including the one made out of all foam(didn’t like it, and not just because it’s more expensive). Ultimately I decided on one that was in the middle of the road, and hopefully it will work out. Bob, the salesman, was helpful, but not in a pushy way. The Factory Mattress store gives an additional five year pro-rated warranty for those mattresses with a ten-year replacement warranty. That’s nice. They’ll also deliver for $ 50(and haul away your old mattress at the same time). Went in on Saturday, new on arrived Monday morning. Pretty speedy, and so far all seems good. As a bonus, they offer a 30-day trial for your mattress. Spend 30 days on it, and if you don’t like it, they’ll take it back for a 10% fee. One time only, but it’s better than nothing. The only downside is that you have to spend the other 90% on another bed(you don’t get it back in cash).
