This is a resturant started by a group of over educated people who try to present a faux pretensious farm to table resturant. Asked the server if I could subsitute a «hot dog» roll for other type of bread and got the 1 mile death stare as if I was trying to take her first born. Mentioned that there must be other bread options and she preceded to recite them and said we order a certain amount and we are not changing for you… Very limited menu so I wound up having a reheated chicken breast and some grilled vegatables and cola. Chicken bresat was barley heated and grilled vegatable were very tastly but they price things a-la-cart so it was over $ 11 for a small side of veatables. Total bill was $ 28.I believe their target market was a couple we saw going in as we left. Asian male who was a doctor wearing his scubs from Mass General Hospital with atractive Asian wife driving in a brand new Mercedes coupe. Salary of $ 300 – 500,000 a year most likely and no real concern or undertanding of real famers food or value in dinning… If you enjoy the overpriced resturants of the South End and Backbay you will fell at home here. One nice thing about the reaturant is the interior was well done and very bright&pleasant place to be in. One drawback is they use hard wodden chairs with no padding on seats like the famous«Harvard chair» so you will not be comfotable if you sit for any extended period of time.

Amazing coffee and freshly prepared local products. Very cool and clean space, can’t wait for the beer!

The biggest ripoff ever! Just got a salad here. Paid $ 13. for it, and it could literally fit in my hand. It barely qualifies as an appetizer salad. Very disappointed, and will not be going back.

Tried out this cute little café with two friends but found the experience to be unexpectedly unpleasant. At noon, the place is so busy and noisy that it’s impossible to find a table or hear a conversation. Two of us had the tartine sandwich which was rendered almost inedible by an overpowering mustard dressing. Others said that the chocolate chip and salted chocolate cookies were the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, the menu is quite limited – three types of sandwiches, plus salads and prepared foods – so I won’t be giving it another try. One star for the friendly wait staff, though!

My wife and I were in this morning and had a breakfast tart and an egg, prosciutto, and avocado on toast. They were both fresh and tasty. Price is as expected for farm to table freshness. The restaurant is bright and airy and the kitchen is full view is a nice touch. I’d like to go back and try some of the brews they have on tap.

Unique and delicious. Had the rice bowl a couple of months ago, while meeting friends for lunch. We all shared different items and were pleasantly surprised. Thank goodness w. concord has some exciting places to go to now. Have been back many times since.

I ordered a dirty chai latte and when I tasted it, all I could taste was sugar. It was way too sweet and syrupy without any indication that it would be. I exchanged it for a cappuccino. That was also a disappointment because the milk and coffee had coagulated and it tasted insanely bitter. Not the foamy frothy creamy capp I was expecting.

Please note, my rating is strictly for breakfast. We went one Saturday morning at 7:30 and the restaurant was nice and quiet. My 4 year old ordered a blueberry muffin then I asked for the breakfast menu. The response I received was, «we only have what’s out»… which was two types of muffins, a scone, and maybe one other item. We ended up with two muffins and a coffee(the coffee selection has an equally broad selection of light or dark roast coffee, with or without milk and sugar). We sat at the bar overlooking the road, finished our muffins, then went to Nashoba Brook Bakery for a proper breakfast. The food at Saltbox was fine(3.5 stars) but the menu was too small. Best breakfast in Concord(east or west): Trail’s End. Best breakfast in W. Concord: Nashoba Brook Best light breakfast(aka bakery) in Concord: Haute Coffee I’d try Saltbox again for other meals but never again for breakfast unless they substantially expand their menu.

Really I should give this place 2.5 stars but I rounded up. I came here for lunch with a friend. The place was pretty busy and we happily took two seats by the large windows. Though busy for lunch there were two seats at the bar and two more at another window. The setting is very nice and has great light. I ordered risotto and a specialty beer, my friend ordered the Cuban sandwich and another of the same beer. The food was good, my risotto was well prepared and very tasty. It was just barely enough food for lunch. If it came with bread it may have filled me up. The Cuban sandwich was pretty small as far as signature sandwiches go. Neither of us seemed full after the meal. My gripe however was the price. My risotto and beer with tip came to $ 28. That is a lot of money for what I received. The $ 14 Cuban sandwich was similar, a very small portion for the price. I fully support the farm to table movement but I can’t say I felt my meal justified the cost. The seating was also pretty limited, we would not have had an option if we’d brought a third person. I’d probably go back to have a beer or glass of wine, but I doubt I’d return for a full meal.

Have had the opportunity to try Saltbox now both for breakfast(breakfast scone — a nice savory option in a scone and a breakfast egg sandwich which was very good) and dinner(Cuban sandwich which was great and bouillabaisse which had a nice mix of squid, shrimp, fish, and vegetables). This place is a great counter option to the other restaurants in the area(80 Thoreau, Bondir, Woods Hill) in that it is a lower key alternative and does great takeout. Keep in mind that outside of the pre-made options in the display the other meals r made to order so it’s not fast food — which gives u the chance to try the beer and wine list.

Oh Concord restaurant owners, when will you get it. Even though the income demographics are higher in this part of the Commonwealth, we still want a place to relax at meal times or have a decent meal that’s not overly created with a fair portion. I’ve walked in on three separate occasions, always willing to give a new place a chance. Service; there is none. I’ve read about the tips; ain’t happening. Why? Because there is no service. Seating: where? Food selection: a concoction of ingredients that barely compliment each other. Food allergies: if you’ve got a fish allergy or are sensitive to garlic, don’t put your health at risk, since the inexperienced counter help does not seem to know all the ingredients. Bragging Rights: if you happen to be one of those non-working yoga moms and want to brag that you come here; keep coming, that’s their only chance of staying in business! Bottom line: if you still crave great coffee, friendly service and an inviting atmosphere, check out Nashoba Bakery. They’ve extended their hours into the evening, the staff works efficiently and very well together and you can always pick up fresh baked goods or prepared soups/salads for the following day.

Haven’t figured this place out. I walk in at lunch, look at the menu, decide I don’t really want anything they have, and I go next door for pizza. Best cup of coffee in West Concord. I like that they serve wine and beer.

Updated review is a little more critical. My biggest issue is that when you pay with a credit or debit card, they turn the display toward you so you can give a tip. The pre-suggested amounts are 15,18 and 20%. Firstly, I don’t like that aggressive request. Secondly, I think that is excessive for counter service. I still like the place. Not everything is delicious. It is a bit more hit or miss.

Ben and the rest of the Saltbox team catered a sit down dinner for forty people at our house this past Saturday. The food was absolutely spectacular and far exceeded everyone’s expectations. The lamb was so tender it melted in your mouth, and there were many other very clever touches like turnip in the Potato Dauphinoise that brought delightful Flavors to old favorites. Our guests were delighted and amazed. Thank you Ben, Patrick and the rest of the team. Your staff were wonderful!

Great concept for a restaurant. They seem to really be going for the ‘farm to table’ concept and making real strides as opposed to just noise. The dining area is very bright and inviting. The food quality was excellent.

Wonderful lunch place with great pastries. A beautiful room with clean décor and nice location. I had the speck sandwich and roasted carrot salad with yogurt and pistachios. Delicious. And the coffee is excellent. I do not understand why there is not more seating as they could easily fit ¾ tables and they should have a few more Sandwich choices for lunch…

Great lunch and first time here. Unique in the semi-self service, open to 7pm concept. Salumi and cheese plate were very well done and had great accompaniments. Cesare salad with anchovy fillets was excellent with a strong garlic flavor that was perfect. Burrata was very fresh and well flavored with salt and olive oil, served with great bread. Carne tacos were great and admittedly gone in three bites. Happy to return but the hours might be challenging. Also a bit pricy but in alignment with the region.

Only open for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner, this locally sourcing, farm to table-ing, fresh and delicious-ing restaurant is one of my new favorite places to eat. Just order at the register and sit, and prepare your tastebuds for some intense flavors. Saltbox is absolutely one of the tastiest places in concord. Sometimes I come in for breakfast and enjoy delicious locally-sourced coffee along with an incredible breakfast sandwich on a ‘Stone and Skillet’ English muffin, sometimes my wife and I rush here after work to have an early supper and sit at the bar and watch talented chefs create our meal in a beautiful brand-new kitchen, sometimes I purchase prepared food-to-go out of the fridge case, bring it home, reheat it, and top a home made salad with skirt steak or Alaskan salmon. They also plan to brew their own beer in the near future…

This brilliant spinoff from the Saltbox Farm is a light and airy café in the center of West Concord with the same farm-to-table approach to the menu. Dishes are extremely inexpensive. I paid just $ 15 for a large helping of fresh Alaskan King Salmon with rice in a miso sauce with pickled vegetables. It was one of the freshest pieces of salmon I’ve eaten. Along with breakfast specialties, pastries and a half dozen other entrée choices, they also serve a nicely curated selection of wine and beer. Everything is café style so you order and pay and take a seat, then they bring out the food, but the service was friendly and attentive. They close in the early evening and the menu could be a bit broader but what they have now is phenomenal.

A long-awaited opening in west concord center seems to be worth the wait. I stopped in on opening night and the place was packed, standing room only. Ordered a pork sandwich to go, took about 15 minutes. The meal was very freshly made and quite tasty. Other than the usual opening night chaos the only complaint I have is that the bread could have been toasted a little longer. This area is in desperate need of an upscale dine-in /takeout place so I think Salt Box Kitchen will do very well. And the beer and wine menu(which I did not get to try) seems very reasonable.
