Taqeria Los Portales

The food is super good but it’s hard to get past how dirty this place is. From the tables to the floors to the card they give you with your order number. But, the food is really good…
Ordered a shrimp crunchy taco today $ 3.75 that made me say «mmMMmm» with every bite. I’m not exaggerating. Every bite. Didn’t even get to my shrimp ceviche tostado $ 3.25 but it looked just as good.
Salsa bar is awesome. Pickled veggies, roasted jalapeños, and a variety of salsas. Even two different salsa verdes. They bring the food to your table and pick up the trash when you’re done, but I don’t see a lot of wiping down the dining room. But my taco was good enough that a dirty dining room is not a deterrent to coming here.

I found it! A taqueria that serves street tacos, the kind I am used to having in Santa Ana from food trucks or street vendors. I randomly stumbled upon this restaurant while I was walking around the Todos Santos Square.
It’s located on the same block as Starbucks, but down a few doors. Parking can be kind of a pain, just FYI. But the tacos are delicious, they do have taco Tuesday where the tacos are only $ 1, but they only offer chicken and pork, beef would cost extra.
There is a $ 5 minimum purchase to use a credit card, otherwise, they charge a surcharge to use your credit card for a purchase under $ 5. Their chips are really yummy, they’re the thick tortilla chips and they’re delicious.
The salsa is hit or miss, sometimes it’s really tasty and sometimes it’s on the bland side. The restaurant is open till 10pm, and it has plenty of seating. I have been here a couple of times, I am hooked and I will be back!

We alon went here for dinner tonight and picked up burritos. All vegie burritos of course.
Each burrito weighed about 5 pounds. They were pretty good.
This was my first visit. I may try it again if I’m near by.

I went here with my bf for Taco Tuesday thinking that it was still Los Gallos. When we got our tacos, I felt like something was off. My bf also felt like something was different. That’s when we looked around and saw the name change! The food was very bland and too soggy. Needless to say, I am currently vomiting from FOOD POISONING!

Been here a few times. Food is decent. Portion is good. But a taco plate at 8 in the morning? HELL YEAH!

Been coming here every week all summer. To picnic in the plaza nearby when they have concerts. Sometimes twice a week. Every thing we have ordered is yummy and the staff are super nice n friendly!

This place was very good when under ownership of Los Gallos. I brought my wife here thinking it was still one of Los Gallos restaurants and to my surprise the ownership changed name and food quality. My wife had a Asada quesadilla and the meat was plain and flavorless. I had a super Grilled chicken burrito and same plain flavorless chicken meat for me there salsas where tasteless as well.: (Sorry this place lost my business. I do not recommend, this is the first and last time I’ll come here.

Street tacos were amazing. And endless chips and salsa! Only minus was the horchata was a little weak. But super cheap! Will def be back!

Just ordered a chicken suiza and chicken nachos…(simple right) HELL NO! Chicken was nothing but fat and gristle. How can anyone mess up chicken. OMG! So sad. Never going there again. No really… don’t even attempt to go unless your high!

Ok so It‘s the second time we come here to eat and my drink is not ready untill I ask for it! This time we were totally done and walking out when I reminded the cashier about my fresh squeezed orange, carrot beet juice, common how hard can it be yo look at the only order you have at 10 am on a non busy Tuesday morning! And we were the only customers there, all the time we were eating I would here noise and though well they are working on my drink, yea right after I told her she didnt even looked surprised or ashamed or even apologized! Not untill the guy cook started chopping the vegetales

This place recently changed ownership, which is fine, location was my real draw. That and the free salsa bar where I’d used to poach limes like it was going out of style. Nothing better than drowning a greasy, satisfying carnitas burrito in lime juice.
Except the limes are gone. No more free limes with purchase. Boo.
And the greasy carnitas.. . is just EVER SO SLIGHTLY not as awesome as it was under the other owner. It’s still super convenient, the wait time is short, and the burritos are GIGANTIC, so the value is there. It’s just not QUITE as perfect as it was. Maybe add limes to the freebie-​bar? ;)

My bf and I only got the super nachos to share since we weren’t too hungry. The nachos were pretty good, nothing out of this world. We got em with carne asada y camarones (steak & shrimp). I do feel as though I can get these elsewhere, maybe even better.
Had I gotten something else, I’d have more to base this review off of. But I’m basing this off of the nachos and the good salad bar. They have a good variety of salsas and dips to go with your complimentary chips (if you spend over 5 dollars on a meal).
Other than the food, the service is okay. I don’t expect much from a place where you order at a register anyway. The place does seem to be pretty well kept nonetheless. I’ll most likely be back for taco Tuesday ($ 1 tacos) and update this review :3

So I need to update my last review. Tonight my husband went to get take out tacos. I ordered the shredded chicken taco combo with no veggies. When my husband got home with my food it was plain chicken on a soft taco wrap. No cheese. The chicken was flavorless. I called back to the establishment and asked if cheese was standard on tacos-​because in the picture on their menu they have cheese. I was told by the lady who answered the phone (who spoke limited English) that you had to specify that you wanted cheese on your tacos. Ummmm, WTF?! I’m sorry, cheese is standard on a taco of you ask me-it’s meat & cheese if nothing else! Very displeased. Oh, and this was the second time my meal was made. When my husband first got there they’d put onions all over my tacos. I dunno when onions became standard on tacos and not cheese. Just confuses me!

This is by far the best Taqueria in the East Bay and on Friday and Saturday and Sunday they have one dollar tacos and they have other specials like a 2 taco plate rice and beans for $ 4.99
Did I mention they have free chips and salsa and a great atmosphere at cheap prices for everything else too. And the food is Delicious

Yummy Mexican food… I love the grilled chicken burritos so much I had to put myself on a diet! The juices are addictive… watermelon and cantaloupe are my favorite. Chips and condiments — all you can eat — 4 types of salsa and all for under $ 8 — how can you go wrong!

I got a huge chimichonga and it was pretty dang good. It was a lot of food for $ 8.00 and included chips and salsa. They have $ 5 lunches during the week till 5pm that I want to try. Good place

Great burritos! I love the Super Burrito with chicken and NO SALSA. But they always find a way to completely ignore my request and put it in there anyways!
I always get the same thing and they never fail to ignore me. The lady always repeats my order back to me, too, which I don’t understand if they’re just not gonna do it.
Maybe it’s time to really make sure the cooks make my order right. *breathes down neck*.
