We went with some friends to this annual event held at the fairgrounds in Conroe, Texas. This was our first experience with the local event. Obviously, you go into it expecting an interesting crowd, junk food, and rides that have seen better days. It’s a carnival after all right? This place is a little more than that, as it is also a fundraising event for local school kids. At the live auction we saw various items from paintings to sculptures selling for thousands of dollars. It is nice to see the community come together to support the future. There were all kinds of livestock being showcased from chickens, to goats, to llamas, donkeys, and everything in between. My favorite was the little piglet. I have a hard time believing something so small grows into something so largely delicious. The food is standard fare if you know what I mean. There was everything from corn dogs, to funnel cake, to the strangest things deep fried, and no it doesn’t do a body good to try it all. You better keep the pepto handy and wait a few minutes before getting back on the rides. Certainly not the place to be watching the waistline or cholesterol intake. It’s not a cheap night when you combine all the food for both of us, the rides, and photo booth photos. Not sure how we spent $ 60 bucks, but it went fast! I can only imagine entertaining a family of four. People watching is a definite prerequisite and if you need to do some shopping at Walmart, this is a good time to go because everyone else is at the fair grounds. ha ha The rides are thrilling, if not more for the fear of asking yourself how long each one has been in operation and what engineer put them together for my pleasure??? Some had definitely seen better days, but who is counting? Just don’t start thinking about Final Destination as the roller coaster ratchets up the loud track. Overall, it’s a local event that must be tried at least once while living in Montgomery County. Do I feel compelled to go again next year? Depends on if I really feel the urge to have some funnel cake or not. The rides not so much.
