Great service. Very attentive wait staff. Smiles all around. Train motif needs a few more items added, but off to a good start. Food was very good. Not quite 5 stars, but fully deserving of 4. Fried mushrooms = 5⁄5 Onion rings = 5⁄5 Chicken fried steak = 4⁄5 Side salad = 4⁄5 Corn = 4⁄5 Pies look amazing. While not inexpensive, prices seem fairly reasonable.

Depends on how busy they are! Been here when not very busy and I would give 10stars but when they get busy it is obvious they are understaffed and they rush the food. The patty melt and fries have been AMAZING(not busy) and average at best(busy)…I will continue to dine here because it is local and I love to support my local places :) OK went today(6⁄3) on a spur of the moment choice and boy oh boy I remember why I fell in love with this place! Patty melt was on point! But best of all I can now wash that ½lb beauty down with an ICECOLD beer! I must admit it wasn’t very busy but I can’t look a gift horse in the mouth the atmosphere and food here is just good olé home cooking!

The fried green tomatoes were delicious. I could have eaten them all for lunch and I should have… my grilled chicken breast was okay(nothing special) and my fries were ice cold.

Always enjoy my lunchtime visits to WhistleStop! From the burgers to the pie, the food is always on point. Sometimes they’re a little too busy for the waitstaff, but they still keep the food fresh and a drink in front of you.

Breakfast today. Omelets were tasty. Hash browns good. Homemade biscuits great. Nice people. But they cut corners in the wrong ways. Coffee was Folger’s(the plastic tub was visible) and weak, in my opinion the worst type of coffee possible. Juice watery and from a jug like you see in government cafeterias. No silverware until after the food came and we asked twice(waiting on the dishwasher). Gravy for the biscuit was not hot. Pancakes almost burned. The food took a long time to arrive. Overall just average. Would not go out of my way.

I am so unimpressed with this place. They have decent food, but when it is served at a place that they don’t bother cleaning properly, i.e. walls filthy, marry ketchup to where they don’t clean enough and it causes rust, floors, chairs and bathrooms dirty. Not only this but they don’t have a hostess. We came in and sat ourselves… others trickled in after and we sat for 10 minutes before service where everyone else were being assisted shortly after. I would never recommend because the 2 times I’ve been the food wasn’t good enough to overcome the cleanliness or service.

Excellent food at reasonable prices! Every thing here is good! Service is top notch! Burgers are good as well. Hardly ever overcrowded, and close to the house! Enjoy!

I had the original hamburger. It was delicious! That was hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had. The service was great. Everyone was really friendly. I can’t wait to come back and try the pies.

Daily Specials, great food. My favorite is the huge Chicken Fried Chicken with homemade mashed potatoes and gravy.

Not good at all. Tasteless catfish and awful hamburger. A bun less burger meat was like leather. One bite was all I ate. For $ 27 very disappointed. Second visit and the last visit.

Fast service, good food, fair prices. Salad is fresh, cold and crispy — but could be served in a larger bowl so ingredients don’t fall out. Fried pork chop, chicken fried steak and fries are very good. Mashed potatoes were lumpy and skimpy. Green beans were flavorless — no seasoning. Fried okra was great. Banana pudding was passable. — only 3 banana slices that had turned black. Yukh! Coconut cream pie had just a smattering of coconut on top — tasted like it came from a can of pudding. Pie crust was soggy.

Tried this place twice and wasn’t really impressed. The only thing that seemed to be worth purchasing is the fried pickles. Other than that, not worth the trip.

This place has it all. Great service, delicious food, cozy atmosphere. And the prices are more than reasonable prices.

Went after church on a Sunday. Definitely an older crowd. Everything was good, but the chicken and dumplings was to die for. We’ll be back.

It was okay… do they make precooked fried green tomatoes??? Cause strangely these reminded me of the frozen onion rings you buy at the store… plus the tomato really didn’t have a flavor… which is odd for a green tomato. Had the whistle stop burger… that’s a lot of bun for very little burger and dry meat. Onion rings are handed battered… but still just okay. Doubt we will come back. But fine in a pinch…

My favorite place for home cooked food. Their fried pork chops are just like my grandmothers. I always order two and take one home for later!

Solid 4 star. Stopped by for the Friday all you can eat Catfish. The fish was a little bland. No seasoning. That is all i can criticise about. The rest was very good. Service was excellent. Prices are very reasonable. I think i found my favorite place in Conroe to eat at

Went to try this restaurant for the first time today with my daughter. After a 17 minute wait to order, and 22 minutes after ordering, our meal had not arrived we heard our server argue with the«manager». She collected her personal items and walked out. I told the manager our order was taking too long and to please cancel it. I was surprised that the«manager» did not offer any explanation for the delay and even more surprised he did not apologize. It will be some time before I return to this restaurant. I give this restaurant ½ star

Good: The pie. Nice, hardworking waitstaff. Clean. Comfortable. Bad: Kraft style mac’n’cheese. From what I saw, most of the food is. meh. Some is good, however, you just have to know what to order. Took forever for our food to arrive. The macaroni really killed it for me.

I’ll start off by saying service was absolutely outstanding. I couldn’t have asked for better. If the food were half as good as the service, I might come back! Unfortunately, the food is just not worth it. I’ve only been once, so perhaps it was just a bad night. Mixed veggies were actually good, cooked until just tender and well seasoned. The macaroni and cheese, though, was Kraft Dinner. Serving that in a restaurant is bad enough(Chili’s, I’m looking at you!), but this wasn’t even freshly-made Kraft Dinner, if you can ever really call it that. It was cold and congealed. Didn’t even take a bite. I would’ve asked for something else, but there was enough food on the plate I didn’t need the second side anyway. I was certainly not cheated on the catfish, though. Portions are quite generous. Unfortunately, the coating was chewy rather than crispy, and the fish was just this side of undercooked. Certainly not dangerous to eat, but another 30 seconds in the fryer would have improved the fish and the coating. Well, maybe. On the thinner parts of the fish that did cook a little more, the coating got downright leathery. I’m telling you, though, I was taken care of so well, I might actually give them another chance in a few months. Truly good service is hard to find. The food just wasn’t up to par, though.

I don’t know how long this place has been in it’s current spot, I’ve lived in Conroe for 2 ½ years and always noticed it but thought it was oddly located and never made it by. Today I wanted a chicken fried steak and really do not like Vernon’s so I searched Unilocal and there we were. The location is odd, but easy to get to. Parking was great, staff was really attentive and nice, menu was just the right size. Prices are reasonable, décor and atmosphere are really laid back and very comfortable. The food was great! we ordered fried green tomatoes, fried pickles and cheesy fries for an appetizer. My husband isn’t a big pickle fan and typically hates fried pickles but he repeatedly said they were amazing. The fried green tomatoes were good too. They were perfectly fried and tasted and looked fresh. My son had a hamburger and fries, his favorite meal, and he ate every last bite which is rare despite his love of the two. My daughter loved her hot dog and my husband ate his patty melt and commented that it was pretty great. I had the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Most people are probably really used to plate sized chicken fried steaks, sometimes with a heavy breading. This piece was thicker on meat and thinner(appropriately) on breading. It was so good! And the potatoes and green beans were like I had made them at home. We had some ice cream and banana pudding for dessert. All great. Btw– their dessert menu is kind of impressive for a smaller place. We loved it. There was plenty of food on everyone’s plate, service was great and we really enjoyed our Sunday dinner.(They said they’re open until 9 too. Kind of surprising and really nice.) We will definitely be back now that we know how yummy it is.
