It has been around forever and has always stayed the same(to me). Most everything is good here: steak, catfish, pork chops, chopped steak. One thing I like is they have fried pickles and fried green tomatoes! Try to avoid Sunday after 11 and the 12 o’clock lunch time as this place is packed(waiting line). Some times the service is slow. My favorite dish is their Chicken Gumbo soup; it is the best thing on the menu.

I was surprised by the number of very positive reviews compared to the food we were served. My daughter and I love seafood and try to find as many out-of-the-way places as possible to try. My daughter’s favorites are catfish and shrimp, while I tend to enjoy more scallops, oysters, and shrimp. Without looking at the menu, my daughter exclaimed, «I want fried catfish with green beans and corn.» No surprise from me since this is her usual order, albeit unusual for a 10 year old. Over the years, she has enjoyed many fine dining opportunities with me and knows good food when she eats it. When the food was delivered, we first noticed very generous portions. We were both very disappointed by the quality of the catfish. It was over-cooked, tough, and mostly bland. My daughter, the lover of all fried fish ate only 1 piece, but finished the generous helpings of green beans and corn. I ordered the seafood platter which included a sample of catfish, shrimp, oysters, sea scallops, and a stuffed crab. I too found the catfish rubbery. The shrimp was«butterflied», but then grossly over-cooked and tough. The only highlight of my entire meal were the oysters and giant sea scallops.

In town for the Texas Renaissance Festival, and checked Unilocal to find a decent place for dinner. I can’t say enough good about this place! HUGE servings of some of the best home-style cooking I’ve had in a long time! And our server, Amy, was absolutely outstanding, very attentive and helpful! I had a cup of the seafood gumbo, and the fried catfish. My boyfriend had the country fried ribeye. All were cooked to perfection, and seasoned beautifully. I will definitely be eating here again whenever I’m in the area.

Went there tonight. Got grossly overcharged, was offered no recourse, other than a couple of sides. My husband and I were having anniversary dinner, we ordered take out. 2 blackened scallop dinners, and an an extra 8 scallops. The dinners were 14.95. We were charged 58 dollars! The excuse given was that we were charged 2.50 per extra scallop. So, 2.50×8 is 20 bucks, about 5 bucks more than just getting an extra scallop dinner… Which comes with 8 scallops! So, we could have just ordered 3 dinners, but the restaurant staff never brought it up, then presented me with a 58 dollar bill with a smile. Watch out. These people will overcharge you. Spoke to the manager and we were over charged. He sent us a gift certificate. Issue resolved.

I have been here twice now and I plan on coming back for more. The first time we came here with friends that had recommended it for lunch after church. I don’t remember what everyone else got, but since I had no idea what it was, I ordered the fried quail. Had I known it was a tough, gamey bird, I wouldn’t have ordered. I don’t blame anyone for that though, I like to think I’ll try anything once. Any way, so now I know that quail isn’t my thing. The next time we went, I ordered a hamburger steak which was pretty good. I like to put a bit more gravy on mine, so next time I’ll remember to ask for extra. My boyfriend ordered the seafood platter which was an array of fried this and that, he seemed happy with it. But I must say, the shining stars of it all were the fried catfish bites we ordered as an appetizer. So friggin delicious!!! The other thing was the tomato relish, which I’d be willing to arm wrestle someone to get the last bite of it. They serve it with hush puppies which are really good! Normally that wouldn’t be a big deal, but this is the only place I’ve ever had that had good hush puppies. I’ve never had any other ones that I’ve liked. Our server was really nice and kept out glasses full which was great because we came in from the heat after being outside at the shooting range down the road and were super thirsty. We will for sure keep coming back and would recommend this place to anyone.

Wonderful southern style comfort food in a casual setting. We stopped in for dinner after meeting with our wedding coordinator in town. We ordered the seafood sampler and catfish plate with green beans and a baked potato it was excellent! I will say the portions of food are HUGE! I wasn’t expecting so much food. My husband and I had to get three to go boxes for our appetizer sampler plate and meal, the food itself was a nice indulgence def not a regular meal but a comfort food calorie splurge. Services was excellent and everyone was friendly :) good spot for a cheat meal

We came for dinner at 6:45 on a Saturday night and the wait was about 20 minutes. Our waitress was prompt and my glass always full. I ordered the sampler with fried squash, fried green tomatoes, and cheese sticks. The amount was ridiculous(see pictures). It was good although I think the tomatoes would be better in the same batter as the squash as all I could taste was batter and not the tomato. Kids got the popcorn shrimp and it was really good. I had the stuffed crab, rice with cream gravy, and a salad. It was great although the salad could have a little more to it. My husband had the pork ribeye with crawfish étouffée and liked it. We took a ton of leftovers home. Between the endless hush puppies and the ginormous appetizer two adults could easily share a meal. Price wise it was a little more than what I was thinking but not bad. After tip for two kids and two adults with an appetizer it was $ 72.

Great catfish and hush puppies. I eat my fish with lemon and malt vinegar. Fries are kinda mushy but who needs more fries? Everything else was delish! It’s kind of loud but good for families.

We had the sampler platter with stuffed Jalapeños, Katfish bites, and fried pickles — it wasn’t bad just wasn’t the four star experience that it had on Unilocal at the time. We said lets not give up yet, why don’t we give something else a try, so we ordered a cup of seafood gumbo and the fried shrimp platter. The gumbo was decent but overly salty and the fried shrimp were average. The server we had was very nice but clearly busy while others servers had time to stand around and talk. Sorry Kuntry Catfish, you are clearly loved by others but you couldn’t reel us in, better luck next time.

I haven’t been here in quite awhile since I no longer live in the area, it is still just as good as I remember. I had the fried combo catfish, shrimp and scallops with coleslaw, fries and pinto beans. All very good and the green tomato relish is a must have. Our fried squash was obviously not frozen, very fresh. Our server was very good(we were needy group).

Had a ribeye and it was soooo tender! Never really eat out in Conroe but that is going to change for sure. These folk have a seafood and barbecue place and I was so satisfied with my steak that I refuse to leave Texas without trying the other place as well. Staff was amazing and that tomato relish will have you locking the plate. Will definitely come back and bring some hungry friends.

Im not sure how this place could get under 3 stars. This place is so good, great food mostly good service. Food taste just like home cooked meals and i love places like this. Got such a home feel. Great environment. The seafood gumbo is spectacular and so are the catfish bites. Defiantly worth trying just once but be warned you will fall in love!

Vernon’s has the best catfish hands down! My 61 year old dad says it’s the best catfish he has ever had & let me tell you … he’s eaten a lot of catfish in his lifetime! Ha! Go to Vernon’s, you won’t be disappointed! Their fried shrimp is also delicious!

Went for the first time this week and was immediately in love at first bite. I have missed good soul food(the type that sticks to your ribs for days) and was skeptical. I ordered the catfish, fried okra, and mashed potatoes, with a biscuit. Food was brought out quicker than I anticipated and the service was great. I ate as much as a I could before I was stuffed and didn’t eat dinner it was so filling. Definitely a new favorite and I want to try everything on their menu!

Stopped here on a weekend girl’s getaway. The hushpuppies here are freakin awesome! They aren’t sweet(which I prefer), contain onions, and are fried to golden brown deliciousness. The fried okra, catfish, and fried shrimp here are also really good. The service here was also great, the girl that waited on us(Jessica) was really really nice and made sure we had what we needed during our meal. The tea could have been a tad bit sweeter, but that’s no biggie. If you’re looking for Southern Home Cooked catfish, stop here… you won’t be disappointed.

Tired. Very tired. Not worth the drive. Let it go. Seriously. Let it go. The demographic for patrons was over 60years & under 10 years. That alone speaks volumes. When the kitchen gets the catfish right … Then it’s right. When they don’t. It’s a waste if money, time & pallete.
