yes they are a deli and their sandwiches are very good but honestly enjoy their «gringo» style tacos the most. their structure/​flavor of taco (cheese between meat and lettuce) and the gringo packet hot sauce is an amazing combo.

This is one of my favorite places. The service is always friendly and helpful. Food is fresh and super tasty. I love the New York Special is fantastic whether you have the pastrami or corned beef. Definitely a must if you’re in the area. They never disappoint.

What’s the point of having a review without trying. Here’s the other half and I am getting full! Moist non greasy great texture delicious pastrami and corn beef with special crunchy coleslaw/​light tangy thousand island. I think it’s called NY special triple decker and I am hooked!

This is a gem of a deli with consistently fresh and delicious food, wide variety, and friendly service. The handmade tacos are delicious, especially the potato tacos. Gary’s also makes many of its items, including those potato tacos, the egg salad and iced tea, which is nice and smooth. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the location near this section of the beach. The deli has been in business nearly 40 years, so that’s another testament to its quality.

A quaint, small café-​like place with patio seating in back, where parking is easily found. Really impressed with friendly customer service and food quality. BLT was on fresh bread with lots of crisp lettuce. Prices are fair considering you walk away satisfied and with a friendly goodbye.

I’m not sure if these are friends of the owner writing these reviews, but this place is the farthest thing from a New York deli. It’s almost an insult to call it New York style. The portions are VERY small compared to any deli I have ever eaten at in New York or even in LA. Pastrami is sub-​par with all bread and barely any meat. The location is not that great either. If you have ever been to a New York deli before, don’t bother coming in here or you will be seriously upset.

wow, if you are looking for an excellent sandwich this is a must visit! The place is small but there is an outside patio with tables. The inside décor is not great but the food compensates that. I forget the name of the sandwich I get but it has turkey and jalepenos, that I remember. So flippin delish. Great soft, fresh bread. And quite a large sandwich. I have never been able to finish one to myself. so good, worth a trip

I ordered the new York special with pastrami. The pastrami was excellent. Very little fat and excellent flavor. The coleslaw on the sandwich was tasty. I ate this to go and I recommend that if you eat this sandwich, eat at the deli. The lady taking the order was friendly. I will definitely be back.

This is a small simple deli place. I ordered the new york special with pastrami (you can have the corned beef option too). It was pretty good. The cole slaw inside it definitely made it tasty. My boyfriend ordered the chicken breast sandwich. I took a bite and it was very plain with not enough spread. The fries were the zigzagged cut type and were not crispy at all. I think they use frozen fries.
Overall, order the NY special and forget ordering fries!

Gary’s sign says «Gary’s New York Style Deli.» New York «style» is the key word. It’s certainly not a New York deli. Gary’s looks good from the street. New York deli? Everyone loves that. But Gary’s sandwiches taste like what you get at Pavillion’s — and sometimes, not even that good.
CDM needs a real «New York Deli.» Gary’s is not it.

We’ve been eating here since they first opened their doors. Talk about consistency, always fresh, always quality and they never skimp on the ingredients. My son & I love their Tuna Special but I’ve tried every menu item and they’re all great.
I just wish they had later hours. I don’t typically like sandwiches for dinner but in their case I’d gladly make an exception.

A friend of mine and I were going to go see Guardians of the Galaxy last week, and before we went to catch it at the Big Newport 6 in Fashion Island, we’ve decided to grab lunch.
I have one thing to say about this place: Their pastrami was just THE BOMB! No other words can express how much I LOVED this place. The sandwich was big, but I was able to wolf it all down, and the chicken noodle soup? Just absolutely DIVINE! Price is a bit up there, but for the Newport Beach/​CDM area, it’s pretty good for the price you pay and the food you get.

I love CDM and yummy Gary’s Deli. Nothing dazzling as far as décor goes, but a deli that is clean and small and has a few seats out front and back fits my needs for a quality lunch spot. The lady behind the register has been there forever, maybe she is Mrs. Gary. She has a $ 1300 purse sitting next to her all the time, so she must be doing ok.
Show up before noon or after 1 pm or you will have a wait. Sometimes on weekends it’s quite a line — 15 deep. They have classic deli sandwiches and great bread and tuna! Also, whenever friends come over it is my go to take out lunch spot. My sis raves about the meatballs, the corned beef, the pastrami, basically everything.
I notice that the crowd spans all generations, which really shows that the older locals love the place, as opposed to SUBWAY or Zinc, which is a younger crowd.
I don’t see many tourists in here, so it’s a nice place to duck in as summer ramps up.
