I was super excited to eat here… we ventured all the way here on a rainy day expecting great things. I was so, so excited for chicharrones and mofongo de chicharrones that so many were raving about. When we arrived, it was pretty empty– looking like a typical hispanic takeout place. We ordered quickly and the two above dishes came out to about $ 20…which is relatively expensive. I was hyped for some crazy amazing food… but I thought the chicharrones were good BUT average. The mofongo was pretty good… but I just think there is better hispanic food out there. Perhaps, because I grew up on 106th St in nyc, so Acosta’s or even street hispanic food straight delivered fiii-ya hispanic food straight to my mouth. Perhaps… drop by if you’re in the neighborhood just to judge for yourself?

Man oh man. Some good ass dominican food right here. Joined my pals on the first night of Queens International Market. And i dont think the MTA nor the vendors were ready for the massive crowds of people that littered the area for this night time festival. Arrived on deck with my peeps and no room to move, no room o stand on line, just a turn off. All of us were hungry and being that we were in Corona, queens we decided that we had to have Spanish food. Opened up the trusty Unilocal and several places popped up. This place was listed like # 5 on the list but was overlooked by the group. As we walked down roosevelt Ave a little disappointed at the restaurants we passed. El Cabana kept popping up in my mind. So I steered the group in the direction of La Cabana and I’m glad I did. We walk in and it was packed. Tables filled with families who looked like they ate dinner there every night and tourist, alike. Several patrons had bottles on deck of El Presidente and the food smelled so good. It was an all male staff and as I asked questions while we waited for the table, one of the guys gave me some samples: tostones, chicarrone [I know i spelled it wrong] and some chuletas. All so freaking yummy. We got to the table and some of us decided on the Mofongo with dominican sausage or pollo and others got fried chicken [ better than your local Chinese restaurant] and tostones or the chicharonnes y tostones [ trying to include some espanol in my review, ya feel me lol. ] All of these dishes were flavorful and very good. I think la Cabana means home and this place really does feel like home because you can walk up to the fridge while seated to get your drink of choice — El Presidente for the count! And the food felt homecooked with love like when you actually go to DR and eat the food there. As I sit here and write my review, Im thinking damn was there dessert there? I should have gotten an empanada — they looked mad yummy. Definitely will come back to try the empanadas. I was gonna go on a tangent but will end the review here.

Oh god. I told myself I will only come here once every 2 months but it’s difficult when the food is so so good! I’ve tried the mogongo de longaniza and the chicharones and they were both so mouth watering and delicious! Not healthy for you… DEFINITELY not good if you’re planning on going on a diet, but OHEMGEESODELICIOUS! They speak only Spanish here… which is semi difficult for me because I am a Vietnamese American that only speaks Spanglish that I learned through high school… but I manage with google translate HAHA. Again, the mofongo is out of this world! It was so flavorful and the texture is nice and semi crunchy, and even though it was deep fried, it didn’t taste oily. I would bring it home and eat it with rice to share and when I am done, I feel so guilty and semi regretful(but not really LOL) I wish I can eat here every single week… but I can’t! :(

Went on Tuesday and it was delicious!!! I got chicharron mofongo, pork chicharron, chicken chicharron and maduros(I was not crazy about the maduros they Tasted to ripe). The staff was great specially the gentlemen at the register, he helped me what to get and also told me how were the portions. It was my first time getting Dominican food so I was not sure what to get. Great service great food I will go back. My only advice for them is that it would be great if they had rice and beans.

Had the yuca mofongo with chicharrón on the side and it was AMAZING! I went on a Saturday evening so it was really crowded and they only had one server taking care of everybody, which slowed things up a bit. But the wait was well worth it once our mofongos came out. I will definitely be returning when ever I’m in the Queens area.

This place rocks. For authentic and inexpensive Dominican food come here. Loved the mangu and the chicharon(sp). Their sautéed onions are like butta. This place has been around for a while and does not disappoint. Friendly staff but little tough without Spanish. A real gem!

Some of the best Dominican food, I’ve had been going here since I was a kid.(grew up a few blocks away from it)…The only real issue is the language barrier if you don’t speak Spanish have one of your friends go with you. They will treat you a little better. Other then that the chicken — amazing Mofongo de chicharrones — amazing Mofongo de yuca — amazing Chicharrones de cerdo — amazing And everything taste better with a cold country club soda or a nice cold presidente.

Don’t be fooled by the looks of this place, it’s nothing fancy but the food makes up for it and then some. Their Dominican breakfast with mangu, salami, fried egg, and pickled onions is simply out of this world! I also tried their mofongo which doesn’t come with the typical tomato sauce on the side but it probably taste better than a lot of the ones I have tried at other restaurants. I thought without the sauce it would be too dry and not enjoyable but boy was I wrong! This mofongo is fried and I’m assuming that this cooking method is what keeps it nice and moist. The one thing this place lacks are a variety of drink options other than sodas. There are no drink options for breakfast such as orange juice, they however are very flexible and allow you to bring your own drink due to this fact.

Nasty Yucky & Dirty! … This spot has taken a Nose Dive For The WORST! Don’t bother spending your dough here. The food is Trash & Over Priced. This use to be the go to Chicharron Spot. Everything has changed, except for the Décor lol & the No English Speaking Workers.

The food here is so good. Highly recommend, I don’t live in the neighborhood but it’s definitely worth the drive. The staff is nice and welcoming. The best yuca and fried pork… OMG!!! You really can’t go wrong with anything you order… this place is not for the health conscious but if you have a cheat day, go here… well worth it.

This little establishment has been blessing my family with the best chicharron and mofongo for over 20 years. It’s usually busy and boisterous AND you should like that. If you’re looking for quiet, relaxing dinner — this isn’t your joint. If you’re okay with that, then I recommend eating in the establishment, as most of the foods don’t travel too well. Order the mofongo or chicharron con yuca and wash it down with a Country Club.

I was truly expecting a spectacular lunch with the 4 ½ stars overall rating. Sadly, the chicharonne(sp.) was dry, but more importantly, it was salty as heck! I had to use the like to give it any semblance of «juiciness»… The fries were plain old fries… nothing to write home about. Would I come here again? Maybe… doubtful… Was it horrible? Not at all… It was just ok in my humble opinion.

Hands down #1 mofongo in all of New York. When you walk through this hole-in-the-wall during lunchtime(and even on off-hours) you will see locals and plenty of Dominican folk munching away on chicharron, yucca, and platanos. The staff speaks very little English so you might want to brush up on your spanish! My go-to is the mofongo de chicharron, served with those sweet pickled red onions on the side. Mofongo is basically seasoned crushed plantains with garlic and oil, alongside the crispy, meaty chicharron makes for a really good meal. It’s a bit oily, but who cares about that!

This place isn’t what it use to be. But still is a good dominican spot. People mainly come here for their monfongo or their chicharones. Their monfongo is soooo filling it’s full of amazing red onions. I wish they would sell Moro or batata frita. I would recommend this spot to anyone just don’t come on a diet lol.

I’m giving this place 5 stars for their mofongo! I’ve had mofongo at plenty of other places but this one was like no other. It was moist and had some really good pork cracklin in it plus the yuca was the best I ever tasted. I had to order a side of chicharron de cerda for only $ 5 because the pork cracklin was so good. Other items on the menu sound so good as well. I’ll have to try them next time. The place looked deceiving. I didn’t expect them to have good seating or tables in there but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of tables and just how the place is set up since the outside waa nothing to write home about. The staff is pleasant and took care of me really good even though I don’t speak anything but English. I didn’t have a problem getting what I ordered. I will definitely be back here to get that mofongo. Best in NY!
