Johnny V’s Smokehouse

I was visiting a friend in the area and we stopped here for takeout on a weeknight. We got the Carnivore Picnic — which included a bunch of different meats — brisket, sausage, and ribs, along with two sides (if you pay a couple dollars more).
I think there was potential for the meal, but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt that the restaurant was almost closing and they gave us the leftovers from the night. The meat was a bit grisly, especially the ribs. It may have been because we also got takeout — perhaps it tastes better at the restaurant.
Regardless, it was kind of a downer because I love Michigan barbecue.

Food was amazing! Hubby had pulled pork with mac and cheese and baked beans. Pulled pork came on a biscuit and it was so good he ordered some biscuits to go. I had the wedge salad and our son had ribs. Everyone loved their food.
Service was perfect. It feels like you are at the dinner table of a good friend who happens to be a talented chef. We felt it was a good value for the money and we will definitely be back soon.
If you have been here previously, you may notice the name has changed slightly due to new ownership. Don’t hesitate though! They haven’t ruined a good thing but have instead made it even better. If you haven’t been here before, try them out. You won’t be disappointed.

Excellent food! Our first time here and we will be back! Started with the fresh fried mushrooms and I wish my phone didn’t die so I could have taken a picture the appetizer was huge and delicious. Definitely recommend for a starter dish.
I had the half chicken with two sides. I chose fries and mashed red potatoes which is served with 2 mini corn rolls. My fiancé had ribs and chose mac and cheese and fries his was also served with 2 corn rolls. Honestly, I was a little disappointed at first because they were out of sirloin steaks and that was originally what I wanted. But I honestly think I’d like any meal here after tasting my fiances dish. The mac and cheese was absolutely delicious, melted in our mouth. I’m not sure what my favorite was since it was all just so good! Our server Ali was also very pleasant. Never had to ask for a refill on our drinks and she checked on us a perfect amount of times!
Now if you are a first timmers here like were were it was a little difficult to find. It’s connected to a party store I believe. I don’t exactly remember the name. But its on the side. Wish it wasn’t hidden because it’s a beautiful clean place, inside and out! Was definitely worth the find! Thanks to Unilocal we found it. We live in Maple Rapids so it’s a little bit of a drive… so hopefully next time they have the steak! Still worth 5 stars since the food we were served was great!
