Erika Sheckells is a wizard, not with a wand, but with scissors.
I travel quite a distance for her magic; if I don’t see her every 4 weeks my life is tragic.
She helps my first world problems dissipate, as she is very lenient when I am late.
She makes me laugh, she makes me cry, she will even help me with an alibi.
Thank you Erika for being the best, and helping me stand out above the rest (of the douchebags).
Ok seriously, I have been driving from Torrance to Costa Mesa during rush hour once a month just so Erika can grace me with her impeccable skills. Many of my friends make jokes; they tell me I am crazy for driving such a far distance for something as simple as a men’s cut. HA! Peasants. They do not know the true power of Erika Sheckells. I have been seeing her for ~4 years which coincidentally is the same amount of time I have been attractive.
The Living Room itself is a very open design with natural light everywhere. Lighting is pretty damn important in a salon. Parking is plentiful, the staff is always extremely friendly, and the water pressure in the sinks is superb.

My hairstylist Erika Sheckells recently moved to the Living Room. I’ve been a client of hers for over ten years. I would follow her to the moon if need be. She has cut my husband and three of my kid’s hair and currently cuts and styles my mom’s hair for almost as long mine. I’ve sent friends to her and she’s a good 30 + minute drive away. In other words, she is totally worth the drive! I’ve had anywhere from long flowing locks to a short bob, worn my hair curly and strait and everything in between. She can cut any style and has done it all on me!
Erika is one of those rare stylists who will be honest about your hair. If you’re asking her to give you a sleek, straight bob but you have tons of wavy hair she will actually describe what it will look like before you regretfully wished you hadn’t jumped onto the latest hair trend bandwagon! But don’t get me wrong, she never comes across as argumentative or self righteous — if you want your hair cut a certain way, and you’re hellbent on it she is happy to oblige. I love it when she gets my weird requests like «make it more choppy» or «it’s grown out into mom hair, give me more punk rock…» Another wonderful quality she is the ability to understand when I want a trim vs a full cut. If I’m in grow my hair out mode she gets that. If I ask for significant length to be taken off, she understands I don’t want to come back in two weeks for another hair cut. Lastly, if you’re in the mood to chat she is easy going and funny. If you’re in the mood to sit and read a book she’ll leave you be.
The Living Room is a great space. I feel super comfortable there. It’s not loud or sceney. They sell great hair products but I didn’t get the feeling they were pushy at all. It’s spacious and just a really chill place.

Kelleigh is the best! You must go see her. Her creativity and attention to detail are unmatched. The salon itself is also amazing and has the best art and décor. You won’t be disappointed!

I love, love my hair girls here. They are kind and caring and do great work. The salon however is odd. First, the bathroom… it has black walls. Try as you might to see your new gorge hair, the black walls really do nothing to highlight and allow you see it. Bizarre! Second, the seats under the hair dryers. Someone got caught up in the «concept» and forgot about comfort and ease of use. The chairs are wooden, uncomfortable school chairs from back in the day. I actually cringe when I have to sit on them. One day I hope the salon grows up and figures out a sophisticated way to keep their concept and point of difference while providing some much needed desires for the client.

I got my hair cut today, and at first the host was a bit discouraging he said that I supposedly needed an appointment when clearly according to their Unilocal information it mentions that I did not need such. Anyways, he found an «open» spot for me, and the lady that did my hair was honestly such a doll, extremely friendly and nice. However, I don’t know if it’s because I’m so used to my stylist that I had for years or if it was the host’s negativity at first that I gave it a ⁴⁄₅? In addition, for a simple hair cut (just cut most of my split ends because she missed a few) the price was 65 and that’s not including tip. I don’t know if I’ll be coming back even though I have an appointment in 4 months or if I’ll go looking around my cities and see if I find some place better cause clearly they’re overbooked for me at this place.

I highly recommend Kelleigh for cut and color. She is adept at creating any hairstyle – and believe me, I’ve tried most of them with her over the past eight years. She has nailed every one! Unlike other stylists, she never pushes what SHE wants on you. She listens carefully and makes suggestions about how a style can work for your hair type. I’m naturally brunette with a lot of grey, but thanks to her color skills, I’m often asked if I’m a natural blonde. Kelleigh is a delightful person – a total sweetheart. She cuts my husband’s and stepson’s hair too. We are moving about 30 minutes away soon, but I’ll continue to drive to see Kelleigh. The salon is super cute and funky too with a rotating selection of art work.

I totally have forgotten the name of who did my hair! Ugh
But this salon is awesome! The atmosphere and design is really cool. I was very happy with my color and cut. The last stylist I had messed up my cut pretty bad and they fixed it here.

I have been coming to The Living Room Salon for over ten years and have always had my haircut by Kelleigh, she is simply the BEST! I recently moved to NYC but still fly home to have her cut my hair, she is that good!!!
She is very thoughtful and always listens to what I want and takes her time. She is a consummate professional and is experienced in using many different tools and products. I have difficult hair which is very wiry and I have two cowlicks and she always makes them seem to vanish. She is an expert with color and in particular hiding grey in men (and I assume also women).
I am very nervous about my hair and have only had five people cut my hair in my life and I am completely at easy with Kelleigh, give her a try I bet you are a client for life!!!

This was my first time at The Living Room and it was awesome! My stylist, Tess, did a fabulous job on my hair despite my very vague instructions as to what I wanted. She got the color spot on and the cut is so cute. The salon overall is very trendy and comfortable and everyone that works there is happy. I’ll definitely be back! Thanks Tess!

I have been going to Kelleigh Aguirre for over 10 years. She is AWESOME! She does great cuts, color and Brazilian blowout. This last year she has been «painting» my color and I get tons of compliments. The salon carries great products and everyone is really nice. You feel welcome as soon as you walk in.

Amanda cut and colored my hair. $ 65 for the cut, $ 105 for the color. The place is adorable and the staff is courteous, professional, and things get done on time. I had to reschedule twice and they were super nice about it. Amanda’s consultation was extremely thorough and she told me exactly what she was thinking of doing and gave me options (because I wasn’t super sure I just wanted it fixed from last time-​at a different salon) she did exactly what I wanted and intuitively knew what I wanted without me having to go into super detail. Amanda seemed super genuine and was easy to talk to. She is precise and doesn’t rush but somehow gets done in decent time. My cut and color was about ten dollars more than I was expecting to pay but well worth the price for the value in my opinion. I love this salon and the great people they have working there. I can’t wait for my hair to grow so I can go back. Finally found a great salon

Loved the Living Room and Loni! I’m new to the area and, well, you know how it can be finding a new stylist! Loni came highly recommended and didn’t disappoint! She spent a lot of time with me listening to my input, offered very clear input confidently, and together we decided how to handle my do. Loni did both color and cut for me and I love what she did. My hair looks great and feels great. She was totally spot on. I’m so pleased and look forward to returning many times!

Long overdue review, but Unilocalers need to know: Lauren Q is where its at — always great colors and cuts. Moved to the Bay Area, but fly back here for the hair! =) A good stylist who you can trust is not something to give up. Comfortable salon, great products, flexible hours (just book in advance), but note parking is not great.

I had someone that I stayed with for years, including a move to this salon. For the high price of admission, they started having «hair assistants» to wash your hair before you get to the stylist… OK, handled that. Then they started requiring valet parking, or you have to hike one-​block (done the distance twice now.) Also, trying to book an appointment with my stylist meant waiting approximately a week before an opening. My most recent trip there, walked the block, only to discover they forgot to book my appointment. No incentive to go back.

Tess is an amazing hair stylist– she’s attentive, a great listener and a very talented person. A friend of mine and I got our haircut from her and highly
recommend her. Thank you so much for a great haircut and a wonderful experience.

My stylist was Taylor Ruder she gave me the cut I asked for. I love my hair!!! Thank you Taylor. She is going to be my go to stylist. Now that I am living out in O.c. I am happy I came across this salon the staff was very welcoming unlike other salons In the area. This place is beautiful!!! Clean and smells good

I heard about the location online and so when I called to book an appointment they set me up with Danielle, and let me just tell you, SHE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. So many times I have changed up my hair (either with color or cut) from other salons but for some reason they never do my hair the way I want, and its not because I don’t example clearly what I want, because like most of us, I will bring in a picture of how I want it and normally I say, «Do it exactly like this»
However, Danielle exceeded my hair expectations. Given I was very nervous to go from long hair to a short lob, she helped grow my excitement through the roof. Not to mention that my hair turned out perfect! I have never been more satisfied with my look. She was very friendly and knew exactly what she was doing. I will probably never go to anyone else again. THANK YOU SO MUCH DANIELLE!

This salon is awesome and inspiring. Chic industrial meets art gallery. Welcomes all different styles and ages. Jill did a fantasic job on my hair a couple days ago. I showed her what color I wanted and she took my brassy ombré to cool ashy blonde highlights. Very professional and friendly.

Obsessed with my cut and color from this duo at the living room salon. Sadie Curtain is hands down the best colorist I’ve ever gone to. She took me from very dark hair (that I’ve dyed every color) to the most gorgeous shade of blonde. She knew exactly what I wanted and I couldn’t be happier.
The hair stylist I went to after was Shelby Pence. Besides being super friendly, and giving an amazing head massage, she gave me a cut that not only was exactly what I asked, but as its grown out it still looks amazing.
As much as I would love to have these two as my little secret, had to come back and write about these two ladies. Your in good hands with them.
