A friend and I needed a place to stay in the Crawford area while there for a wedding in June. Being typical small town in the middle of nowhere, Crawford offers limited(i.e. two by my count) options for overnight stay. I was however delighted when I came across the Hitching Post during an online search. I had no trouble booking a room online and promptly received confirmation via email. Unfortunately, we arrived in Crawford late at night, after a long drive from Denver. The Hitching Post is conveniently located in the middle of town, so it’s hard to miss. However, due to the apparent lateness of the hour(around 11pm), the entire place was closed. There was a sign on the door with a couple of numbers to call in such an event, but as cell phone reception is notoriously non-existent in Crawford, we had no way of getting into our room. We returned to the Hitching Post early the next morning and the receptionist was more than happy to refund the first night’s stay. Our room on the top floor was spacious and very simple, complete with one full bathroom, closet space and fridge. Since Crawford doesn’t attract many out of town visitors, most guests at the Hitching Post are hunters, so don’t expect much. The feed store doubles as a convenience store, though keep in mind that there is no room or food service at the hotel. If you’re simply looking a place to stay in the area, the Hitching Post is a sure bet as it is both affordable and clean.
