Isla Espritu Santo is like no other place in the world and that’s just part of what you will see if you take the Nautilus Sailing Course in the Sea of Cortez. The course itself including ASA levels 101−103−104 is demanding and you are ‘on’ all the time during your 6 days at sea. If the wind is blowing(which it was for me) you can multiply the thrill. My instructor Ted Barrett was a pro. There are very few people that can do what Ted does and do it well with four rookies onboard. He took my rating of the experience from a 9⁄10 to a 15⁄10.

This really is «As good as it gets». I just returned form a week on the Sea of Cortez with my Bareboat license, ASA101, 103 and 104, as well as a license to charter Catamarans up to 50 ft. Tim Geisler, the owner of Nautilus Sailing, was our instructor and he has to be the best captain and instructor in the business. Not only is he a great guy to hang out with but he is very knowledgeable and experienced. Everything form beginning to end was well organized and professional. I live in the San Francisco area and for the same price of a course here doing day lessons on the bay I was able to spend a week in the Sea of Cortez on a live-aboard 38 ft catamaran with great food, comfortable room and plenty of other activities. We spearfished, snorkeled, swam with sea lions and hung out in some of the most beautiful turquoise coves I’ve ever seen.

i just completed ASA101 and ASA103 at the Blue Mesa Reservoir in Gunnison, CO this weekend. Yes Colorado! Large lake, set in the mountains, great winds and great little canyons to anchor in. The marina was well setup and we had a great Catalina 25 sailboat. Len Malloy was an awesome instructor with years of sailing experience. I am a total newbee sailor. I was on a sailboat once for a «cruise.» Len was very patient to answer all my questions about how and why the boat works the way it does. Overall a great experience and looking forward to taking additional classes through Nautilus Sailing.

Nautilus offers a perfect blend of learning and relaxing. You get a sailing trip in Mexico while earning a license to charter a boat in the future. Each crew member gets the responsibility of being captain one day, and chef another day. The morning is spent doing various drills while under way, and by 3pm you drop anchor in a new location where you can relax, hike, or swim. The price is a steal, considering you would pay at least this much just to earn the license at a local sailing club.
