This place is so fun! Love the concept! The whole time I felt as though I was a kid in a candy store. Went on a weekday evening, and the wait was only 1 hour. Would highly recommend putting your name on the list, and asking for the approximate wait. If it is long, just come back. Our waitress was really friendly. You can grab a plate from the on-going conveyor belt, or you can order from the iPad. We enjoyed ordering from the iPad, since you can get what you want and it is freshly made for you. The wait for each of the items were pretty fast. Fish was fresh. The only thing was that the rice did not seem like the usual sushi rice, as it kept falling apart. After 15 plates, you get a Hello Kitty prize! Overall, loved the experience and the food was pretty good quality considering it’s only $ 2.25 per plate.

Came on a Thursday about 10 mins before they opened and put my party of 2 down on the list and the list was already about a page and a half long. When they opened they got through about a little over a page of people then everyone else had to wait.(Granted there were some parties of 7 ahead of us). We waited for about an hour before our names were called, and halfway through our wait they out up a sign that said«cash only today» because their computer was down, so I would bring cash justttttt in case. Thankfully since we had a bit of a wait still my friend was able to go to an ATM and come back. As far as the eating experience goes, I enjoyed it. I’m no expert, but sushi tasted fresh to me and everything we ordered through the screen came pretty quickly. Servers were helpful and from talking to one of them, they said that the wait is common and sometimes slows down around 3, but typically its always busy. Went with my coworker, but saw a fair amount of people with their families and I saw they had a good amount of high chairs there so seemed family friendly. My favorite things were probably the umami oil salmon and the garlic ponzu salmon. Things I would skip next time would be the spicy popcorn shrimp roll(I mean it wasn’t horrible, but save the space for more salmonnnn). I think between my coworker and I, we had about 22 plates. As others mentioned, they don’t take reservations and you must have your entire party present to be seated. Would go back again.

A hot new spot in Cupertino with a cool concept of sushi on a conveyor belt. The wait on a late Friday afternoon(Got there at 2:45 and was seated at 3:15). My friend and son got seated in a booth. There’s a iPad screen that has menu items that you can order for the table in case you don’t want to get stuck waiting for selected items to come your way on the belt. This place is really small which is why there is such a long wait! NOTE: On the menu page there are sub groups and pages. Tap next to get to more pages of the«nigiri» or «small bites». For $ 2.25 a plate, you want to make sure you don’t go over board and stack up too many plates because it’ll add up quickly on the bill. We went straight for the nigiri and tossed the rice out. What to eat: –Garlic tuna steak *So freaking good we had 3 plates* –Salmon or Tuna crispy rice *I love crispy crunchy rice!* –Soy sake salmon *Melts in your mouth* –Salmon belly –Crunchy roll –Mochi ice cream *YOUHAVETOGETTHIS! The green tea and strawberry flavors were YUM!* Misses –The beef in yakiniku sauce was good but such thinly sliced beef I would pass next time –Uni was not the best –Salmon skin roll was not edible. There’s a little toy dispenser that spits out a Hello Kitty charm after you hit 15 plates. We ate 22 plates between the two of us and the bill came out to $ 61 before tip. I would definitely come back and just eat the garlic tuna and mochi ice cream.

I love the concept. WARNING: Waiting time can be pretty long. There is a sign in sheet. However, once you get seated, you can eat right away. There is a revolving menu that just keeps on comin! That or you can order via the monitor above the table. It arrives via conveyor belt. Green plates is dispensed at this opening located at the edge of your table. Did I mention each plate is $ 2.50! When you get seated, someone comes to give you a tutorial about how things are operated. Food is surprisingly good. The sushi is not dry, but maybe because we came when it just opened. I love their donuts with ice cream. I love the crispy rice topped with spicy popcorn shrimp. The handrolls are a good size. I’ll go again. Parking is available behind the building, labeled retail parking on the right, pass the light as soon as you see the restaurant. People also park across the street.

Came around 1:30pm and only had to wait 30 minutes. You jot down your name on the list right next to the entrance and you have the choice to be seated at a table, at the sushi bar, or either of the two! No matter what you choose, you get to experience the revolving sushi bar, don’t worry! I was happy we ended up with the table because it gave us more room to put our sushi everywhere. There were chopsticks on the table, sauce plates, and everything else you needed on your sushi adventure. They have screens where you can have your sushi delivered to you across a revolving belt in only 2 mins! I wish I could’ve posted a video, but mine was a second too short to be uploaded! Anyways, it was so cool! I just kept ordering things on the screen just so I could watch my sushi zoom to our table! It was like a little ride for our sushi, heh. A doorbell noise would sound right before your sushi arrives too! I rarely picked up anything from the conveyer belt that went around the restaurant because I was just too into the sushi delivery process. Most of the sushi is premade which is why it’s delivered to your table almost instantly. Sometimes it would taste a little old, but most of it tasted fresh, so I didn’t really mind! They have a good selection, but I wish they had more(like something with baked salmon maybe). Perhaps they’ll add more options over time. I really liked the golden crunchy roll and the seared beef with yakiniku sauce. Those were my top two favorites! Each plate was $ 2.25 unless listed otherwise! My boyfriend and I were at 10 plates, but were determined to get the random hello kitty prize(valid til 3⁄18 I think) which was only redeemable at 15 plates, so you know we kept eating more. There was a mission on the screen and if you were to eat 15 plates, you were able to give them to the little samurai/ninja(I don’t remember) to use as a weapon against the boss and win your HK prize! I got a little hello kitty keychain with sushi that inserts into my phone jack. That was fun! The whole concept was cool. I’d definitely go again! Hopefully the hype dies down soon, but it probably won’t be for a while since people are still learning about this new sushi place! **Helpful tip: The directions to this sushi place on Unilocal leads you to the mall next door but it’s across the street right under the apartment complexes! It’s right next to Vitality Bowl!** You can also park in the mall parking lot since there isn’t too much street parking available!

Was super excited to come here because I’ve been to the Brea Mall location in Socal and I enjoyed my lunch very much. Also super excited because of the Hello Kitty prizes! Came here on a week night after work, arrived around 6pm and only waited about 30 minutes to be seated. I really like that this location has the interactive screens that you can order off of and love love love that you get a prize for every 15 plates you eat, although it’s kinda hard to eat that much food between 2 people. Probably better if you come in a bigger group but hopefully no one fights over the prize! haha The food is pretty tasty here, just stay away from the natto nigiri unless you really like natto haha. Things to definetely try are the: –Soy milk donuts –Garlic ponzu sake nigiri –Crispy rice with spicy salmon –Beef nigiris

Wait time was not too bad when I came. There was like 14 people ahead of us and we waited maybe half an hour. Nice interior and very fun set up. The touch pad lets you basically get a special delivery of whatever is not on the conveyor belt already and it’s so cute! Put plates into the slot so your table is not overcrowded and 15 plates is a cute hello kitty prize! Service is quick since they don’t have to worry about getting orders in. Fresh wasabi and it really makes a difference from powder wasabi. Sushi is fresh and every thing tastes prett darn good. The only problem is that the rice is easy to crumble. My favorite is the ikura and mackarel. Good selections of food and has ice cream mochi and traditional Japanese mochi for dessert. I really love how this place is kindof all you can eat. You can grab as much as you want and it’s only 2.25 per plate. There’s a lot of variety, portions are decent so you can try more, and you’re not likely to over order or underorder. Good food at a good price. Not as much waste of food either. Efficient for staff and customers and high tech! Win win for everyone! Love this place

This is such a neat concept!!! Who would have thought about replacing people and having food come out on a conveyor belt. I have heard about this in LA and I am so glad they brought one up to norcal! The wait is ridiculously long, so I recommend coming during off hours or for an early dinner. I came here the day before their grand opening and we waited about an hour and half for a party of 5. Each page is about an hour or so. We got lucky that a lot of people end up not showing up when their name was called so it cut down some time, otherwise our estimate time of waiting was about two hours. The interior is kind of small, hence the long wait. But food is fast. There is a conveyor belt next to you or in front of you with sushi going around. You can pick those up if you like one of them or you can order from the menu above you. They have a variety of items to choose from. Each time you order a fresh one, it will come to you on the top conveyor belt. I always have fun watching our order come out from the top conveyor belt so I ordered most of our food instead of picking it off of the bottom belt. They also have a reward concept that I liked. Every 15 green plates that you eat, you get a prize. The menu would show a small clip every 5 encouraging you to eat more(by defeating the evil monster). After every 15 plates, a small prize rolls down to you. The options right now are all Hello Kitty theme: notepad, phone charm, and something else. I do not remember the dishes that I liked but there were quite a few rolls that were interesting and delicious. I believe one of them was the garlic steak roll… and more. I am not going to try remembering and give you the wrong ones haha. But I like that each plate was small(two to three pieces of sushi) which allows you to try a variety of sushi compared to a regular sushi place where you order one roll and you’re full already. The prices of each plate is about $ 2.25 unless otherwise stated on their menu. The ramen is also delicious!!! So is their dessert: ice cream mochi and the donuts! I recommend trying this place! Wait for a less crowded day or hours otherwise you will wait over an hour and there is nothing to do around that area other than the dead Valco mall.

SOLID4.5. Some kinks need to be worked out, but overall… very satisfied w Kula. :) Food: MUSTGET: crispy rice with spicy salmon, crispy rice with crab mayo, eel handroll, salmon skin handroll, spicy shrimp taco, seared salmon w japanese mayo nigiri, garlic ponzu salmon nigiri, seared scallop w japanese mayo nigiri, salmon belly nigiri. Ordering on the touchscreen is SO convenient. Utilize it! You get a prize after every 15 finished plates :) You have a table or bar option. Our first time here during soft opening, we only waited 40 mins. This past Friday evening, we waited 2.5 hours. Gaaaah horrible. Do not come hungry. Give yourself some time. Either come before they open or during a week day. it might be better. Or you can always put your name down, leave, and come back :) Wouldn’t it be cool if they could text you when your table is ready? Like how some restaurants do… wishful thinking

Food: 4 stars Concept: an easy 5 stars! This place is great and IF you’re lucky and/or willing to wait, it’s really worth the hype! We were fortunate on coming here on the 2nd day of opening at 8PM(one hour prior to closing at the time) and waited only 30 minutes. If you try going now, it’s a shocking-not-so-shocking wait of 2hrs+ from 11:30am until closing! The best tip for people trying to eat here is: (1) put your name down (2) count how many pages you’re at — each page is an estimated 45min-1hr wait (3) leave and roam around somewhere (4) come back 15−30min before you’re estimated to be seated They DON’T take reservations and require your entire party to be present prior to seating. Once in, you’ll actually see they can accommodate a good amount of people(but it’s not suited for large groups). The revolving sushi conveyer is fun and organized. They have each item neatly labeled & they have a good variety to choose from. You can additionally order through their iPad/touchscreen to order hot/cold foods like Ramen or ice cream. For every 15 dishes counted, you get a prize! It’s gamification at its best! Their«Mr Fresh» plate lifting concept is pretty neat too … and so sanitary :-P $ 2.25 p/dish is great but it can definitely add up… haha. I love this place and would go back in a heartbeat if possible! It’s definitely one of the best new restaurants to hit Cupertino!

I will start by saying it is worth the 1.5 hrs. I will tell you why in just a bit. Kula is a chain from SoCal that has restaurants all across Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, and with its first opening in the Bay Area, it attracted crowds and crowds of foodies and curious people alike. In Southern California, there is absolutely no wait. In fact, most of the time the restaurant is empty, much like Boiling Point. Well, they are a chain. With more than 5 locations across SoCal. But why is it so popular in the Bay Area? Maybe it’s the automated high tech ipad-using service, or our fascination with machinery and conveyor belts. Ok, it’s probably the conveyor belts. The Japanese are really attuned to people’s wants and desires. Everything about this place is non-traditional minus the archaic wait-list to get seated. Foodwise, Kula is pretty good. I think the first thing to note is that everything on their sushi menu is 2.25 per order. And their menu is quite extensive compared to other kaiten sushi places. So price is definitely a plus being that it’s affordable and can cater to anyone. They also have ramen, and mochi ice cream. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen and loved it. It’s perfectly creamy, and savory with two slices of meat, ramen noodles and spring onions for flavor. That was 4.80, just under $ 5. We ordered 15 plates of sushi not including the ramen, and Japanese donut ice cream. Using the iPad above every seat on the table, we ordered our food there and it gives you an ETA(which isn’t accurate) and your order comes on a separate conveyor belt on top. You hear a doorbell sound, and then it comes flying to your table. It’s awesome and cool! I just wish they wouldn’t put the ETA on it, because it’s unreasonable that ramen will come in 2 minutes(i waited 7 or so), so maybe update that? But sushi came fast. Some of my favorite nigiri’s were the scallop ones — seared, and raw. Both were delicious! The seared one has a mayo sauce on it. The sweet shrimp was wonderful too, although it lacked the fried head that the SoCal locations had. I also really liked the salmon with egg yolk(quail yolk) and the spicy tuna with quail egg yolk. Those were interesting(gingery), but delicious and slightly refreshing. The fresh wasabi was really nice given that ALL Japanese places in the same price range of restaurants use imitation wasabi. They also have uni but I didn’t try it — it comes with 1 piece, but didn’t look too fresh. The service was perfect. They were all cheerful and upbeat despite the mass traffic of hangry people outside. The restaurant was calm and paced, with the doors closed so you’re not disturbed by people peaking in and out. Although, if you sit by the window, there will be some creepers looking through. We waited 1.5 hrs. We came at 11am, thinking that 30 mins should suffice. We were wrong — the wait list paper was already on the 2nd page. Luckily we were the top part of p.2. I think it’s worth the wait because there are a lot of retail shops you can walk around at, like the Valco mall or whatever’s left of it. Just put your name on the wait list thing and be sure to come back and check in. With all the high-tech innovations of this restaurant, they should do an automated waiting list where you can get texts when your table is ready.

Eating here is akin to making your dinner experience like an arcade game. The concept is genius! Talk about sensory overload. You can see the sushi on the belt in front of you, but the best part is ordering it fresh from their touch screen. The magic of food sliding down on the belt in front of you is awesome. The fish is pretty good quality for the price. Wish the rice was a little higher quality– didn’t taste like sushi rice and wasn’t well formed sometimes. Service was friendly and any place that gives a free Hello Kitty prize gets a five star in my book. The wait is super long but if you are smart about it, put your name down and come back 2.5 hours later! Memorable plates: — ramen — toro — negitori — uni — salmon belly — garlic ponzu salmon — yellowtail — tamago — takoyaki — soy milk donuts with ice cream(yum!) — soft shell fried crab

I’m going to exclude the BIGGESTPROBLEM of this place from my score, but I’ll highlight it here because it is a huge issue mentioned in a few other reviews… THEYGIVEPREFERENCETOPEOPLEONTHEWAITINGLIST. Expect to get cut in line, especially if you come during peak hours when they’re expecting their preferred parties, probably people they know. How is it easy to tell? Well it’s pretty easy when you can see the entire guest list with no groups of 6+ on it, but then see a group of 8 go in! Pretty problematic, rather unfair to their customers. It might bother some, and it does make a big impact on your wait(there were a good number of parties that seemed to fit this category. Anyways, now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s just talk about the restaurant as a whole, minus the above. It’s one of the highest tech sushi belt restaurants I’ve been to. Feels straight out of Japan, this sushi bar offers touch screen ordering and a very sophisticated ordering system in addition to the classic belt revolving sushi. Most items cost $ 2.25 which is pretty reasonable for the quality that you get. Don’t go expecting really high end quality sushi because belt sushi is typically known not to fall into this category. But they do offer some decent sushi that’s on par for what you’re paying for. I found the nigiri sushi to typically be better than the maki sushi. They add a little bit of sauce to some of them adding enough flavor where you don’t really need soy sauce. Sauces like ponzu or umami sauce(seemed like sesame seed oil) really added something not overly complicated, but appropriate. Surprisingly, I found our party ordering more from the touch screen rather than grabbing items from the belt. Food came at a surprisingly fast pace with an estimated wait time listed on the screen. Also being able to put your plates into a trash tray was also pretty cool. I enjoyed the lack of a need for a waiter/waitress. The screen does allow you to call for assistance, it actually took a while. But the service here is friendly and helpful. Overall, it’s a fun experience that’s very high tech dining. If you’re looking for that, and not necessarily sushi excellence, then this place will satisfy. It’s also fun if you’re just looking for some decent sushi and having the option of actually trying many items. I’ll overlook the waitlist issue because I’m guessing that was due to the business just have opened, but I really have to shake the finger for that one. You’re essentially pissing off the customers who plan to spread the word about your business, don’t let it be negativity.

The Experience: Kula sushi is the newest addition to Cupertino’s up and coming downtown. The restaurant has two conveyor belts that run across the entire restaurant which are filled with yummy Japanese treats. Their concept is simple, find a dish you like on the belt, pick it up, and eat it. You can also order dishes off of an iPad that are zoomed to your table on the second conveyor belt. More than anything, this place is an entertaining spot to visit. After 15 plates of food, you are rewarded with a price. The food: The food is average but still worth trying at least once. I tried the shrimp nigiri, baked salmon nigiri, eel nigiri, crab on crispy rice, spicy salmon on crispy rice, two types of beef on rice(I forgot the name) and the japanese style donut. Again, food is nothing special. However, don’t forget to get the Japanese style donut for dessert! It’s amazing

this restaurant is probably the closest the Bay Area has to a real Japanese revolving sushi bar without going to SoCal. that is probably the reason for the popularity of this new hot spot in Cupertino. I had no idea this new sushi bar was SUPER popular n the place to eat when I decided to go last weekend. I think everyone else had already heard of this place n was interested in checking it out also.(I would not have gone at all if I knew the wait was going to b long. I’m not one to waste time.) we put our name down… on the THIRD goddamn page! all we could do was wait around outside til our name was called with all the other peeps. yes, we could’ve walked across the street to Vallco to waste some time, but we didn’t want to risk accidentally miss hearing our name get called. the things u do to get some sushi.: / the restaurant is located in the new downtown area of Cupertino. it’s across from the parking garage on Vallco Parkway. there’s actually a small parking lot next to Kula, but don’t expect to find a spot in there. it’s just easier to park in the Vallco parking garage. so after we FINALLY got called into Kula after waiting for over an hour,(we got there around 5pm.) I was ready to devour everything that passed my eyes! their long conveyor belt runs along the whole restaurant n passes by every table including the front bar area so everyone can participate in grabbing plates off the belt. the way the whole ordering system works was quite genius to me. I was definitely«ooooing» n «ahhhhing» in the beginning. u can grab every plate u want off the belt that u c. all the green plates r $ 2.25 each. it really seems cheap but the amount is not big. if u want freshly made food, just order off the tablet in front of u. so convenient! the ordered food will slide to u on another conveyor belt like magic! after u finish each plate, just push the plate down the slot next to each table that’s filled with water. when we were there, the employees were still training as it was still their second week working so we didn’t expect much. our server was very friendly n chatty though n explained how everything works to our group. the service was fine. we had nothing to complain about. while our group mostly grabbed plates off of the conveyor belt cuz it was convenient n fun, we also ordered hot items off of the tablet. the Real Crab Meat, Uni, n Sunomono were my favorites from the green dishes. the hot item which was the best value has to b their Tonkatsu Ramen. it was only $ 4.80, but tasted like it could cost a few dollars more. another dish that shouldn’t b missed is their Soy Milk Donuts. it comes with vanilla ice cream, but the donuts r the star for sure! the crunchiness dipped in that sweet ice cream is definitely worth going back for.

3 stars for the food — for the price you’re paying the food is not bad. Some entrees are much better than others. Rolls/Nigiri fell apart very easily. 4 stars for the experience — the dining experience is extremely fun and addictive Do not recommend getting: — spider roll — soft shell crab was a bit soggy — salmon skin — Not as crunchy as I’ve had elsewhere and more smokey flavor that I don’t prefer(my own opinion) Recommend getting — Toro — super yummy! Only comes with 1 nigiri piece per plate — Salmon Belly — Tastes great! 2 nigiri per plate — Soy Donuts — Deep fried goodness, crunchy on the outside soft bread on the inside.(Does not count towards 15 plate prizes) Overall, I absolutely love the experience that Kula has to offer and it is definitely worth the 1.5 hour wait to experience the unique dining setting. Staff are very attentive and polite. Each plate is $ 2.25(unless otherwise noted) and when dropping plates into the cleaning slot a tablet keeps count of how many plates you’ve eaten and offer a prize per 15 plates.(Tablet plays a super cute ninja animation to encourage more plates) The prizes are Hello Kitty tiny sticky notes or phone charms. Come with the experience in mind and get some Japanese food as a plus!

My friend told me that if you eat 15 dishes you get a Hello Kitty prize so I had to come here and try out the food. :D I came at 12:30 on a Tuesday and the line was massive. We ended up only having to wait 30 minutes thankfully. Once you come in you’re greeted with tons and tons of conveyer belts. The concept is quite simple actually. + You can either take a plate off the conveyor belt or order foods using the touch screen(which will come on a separate belt above) + Each plate is $ 2.25 unless listed(and it’s quite clear). + The hot foods cost about 3 – 4 each. + Try the Ramen! It was surprisingly good. The noodles were super chewy and the broth was delicious. + The seared salmon nigiri was too good. We ended up getting 4. There’s a dish slot that you can feed your empty dishes into. After every 5 dishes you’re shown a short show on the screen. At 15 dishes you get a ball prize. I think it’s either a Hello Kitty notepad, phone keychain). Super cool concept! I don’t think I would want to wait longer than 30 minutes for this place but it was definitely cool to try out and the food was surprisingly better than expected :).

This place is a lot of fun for a decent price. They are open from 11:30am — 9pm. Since they just opened, I recommend coming at odd hours like 4:00pm OR having someone sign the sheet and tell everyone when time is near. Plenty of parking all around. Either on the street, across the street at JCPenney or under the 800Apartment parking. The waiting list roughly takes about hour /page to get through. Let’s say you arrive at open and you are on the middle of the 3rd page. The 1st page will go in at open. It’ll take 1 hour for the 2nd page and 30 minutes for the half of 3rd page so you’ll be waiting 1.5 hours. Don’t be sucked into defeating the ninja. They give incentives to keep eating. When you finish 5 plates, a cartoon will show you to defeat the ninja and the only way is to insert more dishes. 15 dishes will defeat the ninja and you will get a prize. The prize for us was a tiny Hello Kitty notepad which was not worth it. How does it compare to Zensen? Zen sen is $ 1.50 and they don’t allow tips. This place is $ 2.25+ and they want tip. Yes, food quality and service quality is a lot better at Kula. Pros — Ordering on the iPad is a lot of fun. When your order is ready, the conveyor belt slides it right over to you. The train sound will go off too«Your order is about to arrive» This not so useful, but fun feature kept making me order — Ordering on the iPad is convenient. No more waiting and looking for your dish. Just order it and it’ll be brought to you Cons — Tea is $ 2! Go with water or if you’re willing to spend $ 2, just order a soda. — Ramen is not good — Ordering on the iPad doesn’t mean fresh. Typically at a sushi restaurant, you over the counter and the chef makes one for you. This place will just grab one if it’s already out there.

My boyfriend tried this in San Diego and the experience sounded and looked so good, so I was pretty excited when we found out they were opening one here! This is definitely worth the anticipation. Second day of opening, there is a wait due to the hype created. We went around 2pm and waited an hour. The workers estimated it could be up to 2 hours so some people were turned off by that and left. The restaurant is beautiful. The conveyor belt in the middle of the restaurant and reaching every seat. I love that every seat can access the belt! There’s about 3 sections of seating, which offered bar as well as table seating. Each section has its own plate disposal with a toy dispenser on top for every 15 plates you feed it. The table has soy sauce plates, chopsticks and ginger. The sushi was great quality, despite its low price tag. I listened to the other Unilocaler and got the soy milk donuts. Oh my god, it was like crispy hot heaven dipped in ice cream. The only downside for me was that the rice kept falling apart on my nigiri :( I really liked how I could order items from the iPad and even alert the server if I needed anything or even pay. It’s convenient and it also shows mini cartoon clips to entice you to feed your dispenser more plates!
