The sea food was ok! The shrimp were really little. The crawfish were not hot and seasoned good. Maybe we came on a bad day. The winarita’s were great tho!

I’m sure this place is better, but the raw oysters although cheap and a great deal just aren’t cutting it for me. I think it might just be because the oysters are from Galveston and I’m used to west coast oysters. Also there was visible globs of dirt on them so definitely use a fork for those homies. Otherwise grilled plate and shrimp kabobs were pretty good and worth ordering. Most people here get the crawfish or fried stuff and based on the below reviews you would be wise to do the same.

Fabulous service — the staff was friendly and glad we were there! I had the fish tacos — they are served with rice and a spicy slaw — very tasty! I wish flour tortillas were an option — the corn tortillas were rubbery… will be back

Shrimp cocktail. Oh my. It is hands down the best I have ever tried. It’s a glass filled with shrimp, avocado, onion, cilantro, lime, and perhaps the blood of a unicorn? Ok, not blood of a unicorn, but some darn good sauce or combo of flavors that make it magical. All of the other stuff is great too. Nice outdoor casual«have a margarita» type hangout.

OOPS! No calamari at this location — even though it’s on the online menu …: -(So I ordered shrimp basket with fries and it was REALLYGOOD! You make your own shrimp /marinara type sauce and that was awesome. Very fresh, delicious shrimp, large ‘steak’ type fries… VERYGOODFOOD!

Sat at the bar eating wonderful Oysters and watching everyone order Micheladas so I had to have one too. Friendly and casual place with fresh seafood and a great energy about it.

This place serves great food! You’ve got to try the Grilled chicken plate. I have tried everything including the Hush Puppies and the food is so original. They know already that I love avacado with my plate that I don’t even ask anymore they just serve it with my food. Love the fried baskets too! Wings are perfect! Happy hours are good. Shrimp cocktails are to die for. Valet on the weekends! You can’t go wrong here!

I was skeptical, but everything was good. I liked the feel of the place because for a moment you’d forget you’re in Dallas and in a coastal town in Anywhere, USA. Oh, the hushpuppies are off the charts good. I had the Po Boy catfish sandwich; I liked the big steak cut fries that came with it and the tartar sauce had a good smooth flavor, but not the best I’ve had. My co-worker had the blackened catfish fish taco’s and said they were great. The spicy cole slaw is tasty and there is a bucket of hot sauces to choose from. Parking is limited, but it’s worth the visit. For sure I’d go back and try more menu items and I’m not the biggest seafood fan.

True to form, this divey restaurant delivers no frills service for good seafood in landlocked Dallas. Complimentary valet. Venue is definitely pretty casual. Though incredibly busy on the Saturday night we dropped by, the food was still delivered very quickly. It’s self seating and you approach the counter to order. Once the food is ready, your name is called and you pick it up. There are bussers walking around who are attentive to clear dishes and glasses. We tried the shrimp cocktail and gumbo. Both were pretty good. Not sure I’d have shrimp cocktail again, as there’s coconut shrimp on the menu that was pretty enticing. Margaritas are tasty… they are premade and come from a machine so they’re not winning any awards, but they get the job done. On the way out, it’s an honor code system where you let them know what you had. Overall, pretty good, I’ll be visiting this spot again.

Catfish and shrimp combo is my favorite. Shrimp cocktail is another win, def get that to share! So the experience is always fun. Walk in, order at the counter, and wait for your name to be called. Eat and hang out! Then, pay for whatever you ordered before you leave. It’s an honor system. There’s no ticketing etc in between. Don’t use and abuse it!

If you want great and affordable seafood and don’t mind self-service/very casual dining, this place is awesome! If you’re a first timer, know that you seat yourself at this restaurant and order inside and wait for them to call your name when the food is ready. When you’re done eating, you pay outside by the door. It’s a little unconventional and can easily get a little crowded(bar stools indoors and mostly outdoor seating so go when the weathers nice or later at night), so dress super casual! Think of a shack on the beach. without the beach, haha. Definitely order the shrimp cocktail! So tasty, and you can get it mild or spicy. My grilled catfish tacos were a little plain itself(you can choose between grilled or fried), but the spicy coleslaw and side of ranch dressing really help. And for the price and platter size, it was pretty worth it, considering how expensive fish tacos can be. And I appreciated how the tacos weren’t greasy. The gumbo and fried catfish(their french fries were surprisingly good too) were also great! My food came out really quick, but my dad’s order got lost and forgotten when a swarm of people arrived, so definitely be attentive and speak up if you’ve been waiting too long. Their ordering system isn’t the most efficient, but I would definitely come back for their fair prices and yummy food.

This place has an awesome patio, perfect for a sunny afternoon! Limited seating, so come early or off peak hours. Hands down the BEST crawfish & crab legs I’ve had in all of DFW! Perfectly seasoned & cooked just right! Highly recommend this place! The new Frisco location is also great… Great patio with picnic bench tables, tv’s and fans outside. ****DOGLOVERS~~ sad to say this place is NOT dog friendly on their patio. We watched several people being turned away with their dog in hand. I have only tried Friscos Aw Shucks fried seafood basket, which is their daily special on Fridays @ $ 7.99! Nice portion of Catfish, Shrimp, & Oysters. The Oysters were a bit on the tiny side, but awesome flavor & cooked just right. My mom had the same basket & her only complaint was her shrimp was overcooked(mine tasted fine).

Aw Shucks! Who would have thought that Dallas would be home to a seafood shack haven. With an ice cold beer in one hand and shellfish in another, it’s a good way to enjoy a late afternoon in the abyssal heat. Aw yes! and if it couldn’t have gotten better, patrons can enjoy the happy hour specials which include half price oysters — Regularly priced at $ 15 for a dozen, these little critters are just $ 7 with the promotion. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail, which was one of their popular items. What I did found pretty hilarious was when the hostess took our order she asked if I wanted it spicy, medium or hot? uh… haha… I ordered it mild, and it was presented to us in a large chilled mug with a generous amount of shrimp and avocado. Mmm… The overall experience was satisfactory, but an aspect of this bar that was unlike many others was that Aw Shucks works on a honor system, meaning patrons inform the hostess prior to leaving on what they ordered. Sounds good to me!

Maybe I needed to read the reviews more carefully. just wasn’t what I was expecting. You order and give your name and they call out your name and you grab your food. They have alcohol. some beers and frozen margaritas. I opted for that since most seating was outside. Ordered a shrimp cocktail and a catfish poboy and some hush puppies. Shrimp cocktail is the worth the trip alone. Hush puppies were also very good but the poboy was disappointing. There was like a 4:1 ratio of bread to fish. The fish was just so, so thin and breaded so it overpowered the fish altogether. I wouldn’t get it again. I was disappointed in the main meal and generally do not want to sit outside in Texas… maybe a total of three weeks a year where I wouldn’t sweat through my cloths. Shrimp cocktail = yes! Rest of it… I can pass.

Aw Shucks is awesome, but I still prefer Big Shucks on Coit in Dallas over this location. They’re basically the same thing, except Big Shucks has much more indoor seating and is overall cleaner. The interior of Aw Shucks is kind of cramped and it’s bar style seating, so not really good if you’re going with 4 or more people. You pretty much have to sit outside which I didn’t enjoy particularly because I went on a hot day and there were a TON of flies around. The food was delicious though, I had the catfish filet basket. You get 3 big pieces of catfish that comes out smoking hot. Unfortunately, Aw Shucks does not sell fried calamari for some reason but the catfish made up for it.

Aw Shucks is Awesome Shucks… As a born and raised Dallasite, I am slapping myself for not trying Aw(esome) Shucks before. I’ve passed it about a 1,000 times, but never made it in. Shame, shame on me. The Brewer and I enjoyed the old, grimy, gas station ambience. Places like this in Dallas are such a treasure. The background music was good, the people watching is amazing, and the food was yummy. The fresh oysters were big and juicy. The Brewer enjoyed his catfish po’ boy with fresh fixings. I had the fried catfish and shrimp basket. It’s pretty hard to fuck up fried food, but the fresh lettuce, onion, and tomato on the po’ boy really sets it apart from other po’ boys we’ve had. The cocktail sauce and tartar sauce are also stand-outs that spiffy up the fried delights. I ate well. The Brewer was full. I was pleased with the food. I can see where the seating situation can be frustrating, but to me, that one of the things that adds to the atmosphere. I am also certain that it helps to keep pretentious douchebags away. .

Nice little unpretentious place in Greenville. Bathrooms are out back, most of the seating is patio, and condiments sit out in a bucket. We got the seafood platter(½ lb each of boiled shrimp, crab legs, and sausage) and a pound of crawfish. Luckily I was with an expert peeler who got the hubcaps of food all cleaned up in no time during lunch hour. Thank Jesus Mary and Joseph cuz I peel shrimp like they’re grapes and I just stared at the crawfish. The crawfish and sausage were good and spicy; the boiled shrimp standard. Crab legs were good, but their level of doneness varied, ie., some of it was cooked and some of it wasn’t. Great atmosphere though for eating fried catfish and having a beer. Buuut not while in uniform of course.

The oyster happy hour deal here is one of the best oyster deals I’ve had! It’s half off, which makes it $ 7.50 for a dozen — less than a dollar for each. A serious steal. Not only are the oysters cheap, but they’re fresh and HUGE. I’ve never had gulf oysters before so I was surprised at how big the oysters were. This deal runs everyday so I’ll definitely be coming here to get my oyster fix. Finally, I’ve found a place with great oyster HH deals. I also tried their hush puppies, which was also good and came out steaming hot — always a good sign! However, here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. Aw Shucks runs on the honor system meaning you pay at the end and tell the cashier what you got. 2. They don’t have cocktail sauce here, because they give you all the necessary ingredients and instruction to make your own(which I thought was pretty cool)! 3. Aw Shucks reminds me of a crab shack that you would find along a boardwalk so don’t expect much. 4. They have more to offer than just oysters. They offer other cajun-style dishes such as fried catfish, hush puppies, gumbo, etc. 5. They have beer specials for HH as well(approx. $ 2 for a pint), but offer a very limited beer selection(i.e bud light).

Pretty cool place with fried seafood platters. Prices are ok for seafood(but a little high in general). Aw Shucks is down on Lower Greenville close to a bunch of hipster places. Friends and I came here for a meal after finding our originally planned restaurant much too crowded. I ordered the fried Whole Catfish, which comes with steak fries, for 10 bucks. The dish is pretty big. definitely enough to feed 1.5 person. The cat fish is ok cooked, especially considering it’s a fried dish. For the most part, the fried outer layer is not too thick, so you don’t feel cheated for how much you paid. Flavor wise, it honestly doesn’t have all that much flavor, especially if you decide to use ketchup/tartar sauce. My friends also ordered the Fried Shrimp platter, fish tacos, and some other seafood platter. The shrimp platter was good, although I think serving wise it is on the lower side. The tacos seemed well done also. I think Aw Shucks is a pretty chill, borderline fast food restaurant. The food served is a bit on the heavier side, so I probably won’t be visiting this place once a month.
