If you are looking for a club to join and a place to play bridge every day, this will be a good fit. It is a very active club with a well heeled set of club members who spend a great deal of time and money playing bridge. The instructors tend to pander to these individuals and are not above snubbing a new player who is not a frequent face at their tables. The ongoing classes, based on Audrey Grant’s bridge books, range from very informative to over crowded and confusing. The club has gone through some management changes in the past year that appear to have improved both the classes and the general atmosphere, although there are still times the instructors seem unfamiliar with the printed pages they use as teaching guides and flounder around trying to create hands to illustrate their points. The club could benefit greatly from some sort of overhead system for presenting material in class. While there is an overhead system in the big playing room, it is not used for teaching most classes. While most people play bridge for the mental challenge, fun and social interaction, never forget this club is a business. It is all about generating revenue. If you join with this in mind, there will be less disappointment with the general atmosphere of the club. However, I do question any bridge organization that has to put a smiley face ‘play nice’ card in the bid box.

Clear, concise lessons presented in understandable format by patient and accomplished teachers. Fabulous games with interesting people. Love the fact that I get to meet smart people that I wouldn’t otherwise get to know. And there is zero tolerance for rudeness. BAND is a friendly and challenging place to hang out.
