Great sauce above all else. Ribs, brisket, and sausage were all good. We were the only ones eating there but a few people came in for take out. We finished our food and ordered more to take home for a late night snack. There just isn’t bbq like this in LA. Would be 5 stars but have to take one away for the dining room which is small and not well decorated, which I’m fine with as long as the food is good, and it kind of adds to the character of the place. Side note, i had never heard of the soda«Big Red» and Brotherman joked with me about it so I got one and it was a perfect compliment to the ribs. Bottomline YUM.

Me and some coworkers were framing a house with Habitat for Humanity for a couple of days. We aren’t familiar with the area Brother Man’s was really close and had inviting smoke pouring out of the stack out back. This is mainly a take-out place and we were the only customers dining-in at one of the four tables. There’s a wall with some dedications and photos of notable figures both local and national(including some great candids of «Brother Man» with George Clinton). The menu on the back wall had typical fare: Brisket, Ribs, Sausage in basket, sandwich or combination plate… basic sides, desserts, etc. Place your order at the back through an iron grate and pass your payment through a small opening — kinda like a retail check cashing store. Recommended: — Juicy, almost fork-tender sliced brisket. — Tangy(but not spicy), made-from-scratch sauce. — $ 2.50 chopped beef sandwiches. The ribs were lightly seasoned, smoky and tasty but, in my opinion, could have stood another hour of heat to break down the collagen and tenderize them a little more. Still, Brother Man’s is authentic Texas Smokehouse BBQ and better than just about all the BBQ chains(except maybe Red Hot & Blue — but those are different ribs altogether) The potato salad(mustard-style) was a healthy serving, but nothing great. And, though I didn’t try them, the beans looked like plain Van De Camp’s Pork & Beans. If you find yourself in the area and craving some Q, you might consider ordering Brother Man’s meats and sauce to-go, and consider getting your sides elsewhere.
