Catfish Floyd’s

Please do not come here. Saturday night meal sucked. The ultimate worst. The fish was rubbery and too hard. Not moist at all. They remade my food and it still sucked. No bueno.

My last visit here was not what I expected. Catfish Floyd’s used to have decent catfish but the food they serve now is not worth the trip.
I went during the week after work with a serious fried fish craving. The drive-​thru line was empty so I cruised through and ordered catfish filets. True, you usually get an extra piece but I could not enjoy the extra. The fish did not taste or have the texture of catfish. It was also extra greasy as if it had been cooked earlier. The fries were not fresh. Now the hush puppies were good; those are pretty much always good.
Not sure what has happened over the years but I will not be returning. I see most reviews commenting on the subpar service. Honestly, don’t come here expecting five-​star treatment. Just expect to order your food and go.

Do not waste your time.
Cold food — seems like it’s been out all day. Fish taste like chicken.

Damn Mr. Floyd!!! What Happened? Catfish Floyds used 2 be #1 in my book since childhood. Even when I went to the State Fair Id get a basket because they also are at the State Fair every year… But recently in 2013 – 2014 I have no idea what happened. I used to be proud to bring out of towners here and say Now this is Catfish!!! Now, everytime I stop here thinkin maybe last time was a bad day sadly Im fooled again. I cant believe Im about to say this but Catfish Floyd’s is now some of the Nastiest, most disgusting fish in Dallas. Where 2 start. The fake ass fish is never fresh. I say fake because its definitely not what they used to serve. the fries are just horrible. i specifically asked for them to make them fresh because last time they were cold, dry, and clearly had sat up all day. These ignorant ass folks still gave me old fries and just threw 2 more pieces of the nasty ass fish. PAUSE… 1 upside is Floyds has always been known to throw u an extra piece depending on ur order size. Im sure the old man sitting behind the counter eating and picking his teeth that a previous reviewer mentioned was probably Mr. Floyd himself because 4 as long as I can remember he has done that. I never really cared because like I said I grew up eating here but now I can honestly say DO NOT GO HERE TO EAT AND DO NOT SPEND UR MONEY HERE… Now here are the Catfish Places In Dallas that are still going strong… #1 W.B.S. Catfish and More (Best Lunch Special: $ 3.50 gets u a Huge Fillet, Fries, Pickles, Peppers, Lemon, Tarter, Hush Puppies, and Cole Slaw)/ #2 Top Cat /​#3 Catfish Connection… Side Note: All these places offer pickles and peppers like TRADITIONAL Catfish Places offer. Catfish Floyds is nothing but Fish, Bread, Hush Puppy, and Tarter and now are nasty and dont offer any specials. The cheapest thing is a fillet sandwich with no fries 4 $ 6.00… As u can see by this lengthy review I am serious when I say today was my last day at Catfish Floyds!!! (((YUCK)))

I didn’t go expecting good service, but it wasn’t necessary for the lady at the window to be downright MEAN! Then I get back to work and ready to eat my meal. HORRIBLE. I literally took one bite and threw the rest in the trash. The tarter sauce was good, the fries OK, but the fish was rubbery and weird. Never again. Yuck!

Roaches, roaches, dead flies!!! Do not eat here. Ate their food at the fair and liked it, looked up the address and went to the actual store and it was gross. Roaches crawling on at least two walls, four fly traps in the corner with dead flies. It was horrible. This place should be closed until all issues cleared up. Thank you.

This older gentleman was behind the counter eating and sticking half his fingers in his mouth while taking orders and serving food. And I am not going to even start on this girl who had gloves on while texting and serving food. I love supporting minority owned businesses, but if this is what I get for overpriced food and the quality of service then this is my last visit. I would rather spend $ 8 for two pieces of fish elsewhere and not listen to someone suck on teeth and watch a person pick their teeth while dealing with the food and the customers. I need to find a new place to patronize for fried fish. I may need to stick with my own kitchen. At least I’ll know it’s good and was cooked with some level of sanitation in mind. If ignorance is bliss when it comes to people cooking your food, then avoid this place because you may see something that will make you want your money back before your food is ready! That’s how I felt. This time I’ll just pray over my food, but there will not be a next time!

This is my JOINT! when it comes to catfish. I don’t get to Floyd’s often because of the location, but when I’m out in Oak Cliff, I try to stop by Floyd’s.
Now I will not lie, they are GHETTO as all get out. It used to annoy me, but now I just order my fish and keep it moving. I love the fact that they have a no undergarments policy in place. So fellas, if you sag, where a loong shirt shirt or visit via the drive-​thru.
I can’t help but thinking that the fish has changed. It is not the same as it has been in past years. The fish is still good, but it is… different. I do lament the passing of an era when you could order a three piece and get four big fat pieces of catfish, and at least three hush puppies. Now you get no more than exactly what you order, and the pieces are definitely smaller. But one can’t be mad at that.
Now that TARTAR SAUCE. That over priced TARTAR SAUCE makes you wanna lick it off your fingers when you KNOW you aint washed yo hands! I cannot have the fish without the tartar sauce. it almost makes the meal. Its .81 cents for an extra little container, and dont expect any freebies.
Whenever I order Floyd’s, I order to go, but have to eat it in the parkign lot (NOT RECOMMENDED) because it’s soo good. That parking lot is one of those places where it seems like something can jump off at any minute so its best to get your fish and move along.
I can’t even go to a restaurant and get fish because. I am always comparing it to Floyd’s. I have tried other little holes in the wall, and mom and pop shops, but it always just makes me anxious to get back to Floyd’s.

Catfish Floyd’s is one of those places you’ve been going to for so long that you’re tasting the food the way it use to be. I’ve been coming to CF for well over 10 years, I use to love the well seasoned and the crispy fried catfish fillets along with the two slices of white bread and peppers!
They service has always been questionable, but it was kind of a cool part of coming here. Kind of what made Floyd’s Floyd’s, but the food was never questionable.
But the last few things I’ve stop to pickup an order, the fish is just not quite right. I’m not going to say Floyd is getting Swai Catfish on the cheap, but doesn’t taste like fresh catfish or even farm-​raised catfish. The taste isn’t bad, but it’s not catfish as I know it. So with taste and flavor gone AND slow or bad service, I’m pretty much out on CF. There’s a few other places to do good catfish. But I will miss the unique tarter sauce.

The girl behind the counter was a rude B*!@#. I asked her if I could add a cake. She looked at me like I just spit in her face. I told her what cake I wanted and she THREW it in the bag. I gave her my money and she slammed my change down on the counter and turned her back to me to ignore me (there were no other customers so she wasn’t preparing any orders. I completely lost my appetite for Catfish Floyd’s and gave my food away to a homeless guy sitting in front of the corner store. I will never nor will anyone in my family ever spend a dime at Catfish Floyd’s again and unless you enjoy being treated like crud you shouldn’t either.

Terrible service and mediocre catfish, The tarter sauce is good although. So I ordered online and paid and it said give them 30 minutes so I did. When I arrived and I told Mr Floyd I placed my order online, he asked his daughter if there was an order under my name she just shrugged her shoulders without looking. I told them what i ordered and the owners daughter said they had to cook the nuggets. REALLY!!! So why did I order 30 minutes a head of time. Two people came in after me and ordered and they got their orders before me. After sitting there for another 30 minutes I had to go to the counter to inquire. Mr. Floyd asked the cook and I again told them what I ordered. The daughter again shrugged her shoulders as of she didn’t care where my order was. The other worker that was there said I need to show proof that I ordered online in which I did. He then quoted me a price in which I told him I paid with Pay Pal and the email states that. He stared at my email for three minutes and asked Mr Floyd on what to do. Mr Floyd said his Internet girl wasn’t there and to just give me the order. There was no sorry, let me comp you for the inconvenience, etc. There is a sign on the counter that says order online, and the owner of this place doesn’t even understand it him self. Bad bad business, and I will never return. They were all very a look about the situation.

I have going to this place for about 20 yrs an little has changed. Still has some the best catfish in town.

When you go to Catfish Floyds it can be an experience. Their tartar sauce gets 5 stars and their fish is good as well. Call ahead because they don’t make it till you order it and if it’s busy you can be waiting a while especially in drive thru. They also have a stand at the state fair of Texas every year.
It’s located in the hood so those not familiar may be a little intimidated. True story to let you know how good it is I was waiting In drive thru line one night for almost 45 minutes (I didn’t call ahead). Well there is a shopping center that has some type of club and someone started shooting. A lot of the vehicles in the drive quickly left. Not I I just drove up to the window and said I guess I’m next. So basically I would have taken a bullet for their catfish and tarter sauce.
Another time the Owner exited the store while employees were taking out the trash.
He was standing at the back door with a gun.

This place used to be a favorite of mine until i discovered another gem. It had been years since i had been hear and now that i returned it seemed a little different.

Sub par catfish but the tarter sauce gets 5 stars. Much better places in Dallas but if I just wanted fish because of the tarter sauce I would come back here.

Comfort. That is the feeling that so many of us spend money to experience. Food is one of the ways that you can experience comfort, going way back to memories of the local establishments that you grew up with. Back east there was always the Chinese restaurant that sold wings and fries, or the local fish spot where you got whiting, fries, and a slice of bread, and the corner store where you went to get sodas and pop rocks. These spots may not be your typical «5 star restaurant», or the new «hip» spot that everyone is making reservations for, but they are places that bring back memories and that comfortable feeling that we all crave.
Catfish Floyd’s brings back memories of that local fish joint where you go to get a fried fish box. There isn’t a lot of space to sit, or fancy tablecloths with top 40 music blasting through a state of the art sound system, that’s not what it’s about. It is about good food, and it delivers on that promise. The fish is awesome! But what puts it over the top is their special tartar sauce, wow! Trust me, when you order, pay a little more for that extra container of tartar sauce, it’s more than worth it. Whenever I go, I get the catfish strip box with fries and a couple of slices of bread. You should call ahead if you are in a hurry, because it will be cooked fresh, but it’s definitely worth the wait!
A throwback to my childhood. Since I’m trying to be healthier in my adult years, it’s not somewhere that I can eat every day, but it’s a great escape once in a while.
