I normally NEVER review, but Today I had to. I went to Cretia’s today for lunch with my co-worker and it was by far the worst experience I have had there. We got there around 11:45, and we noticed it was super crowded. We still decided to stay, there was a group of about 20 people that was there as well. The waitress came and took our orders and we did not receive our food for a whole hour! No one never came over and apologized for the delay, we had to ask repeatedly for drink refills! It was the worst. My order came out incorrect, and still no real apology, it took another 20 min for it to returned back to me. After that our waitress never returned, so we had to go to the counter to get our checks. We spoke with one of the other workers and she brushed our experience off, and blamed it on the large party, again no real apology. We paid and our waitress after the whole experience, attempted to come after us with TWO cupcakes! Are you serious! I will never return back. I felt that management as well as the wait staff could have been a little more apologetic and sensitive to us. Seeing that we were on lunch and we frequent there often.

My favorite dessert in this shop is their oatmeal strawberry cookies! Not many bakeries make these unique cookies hope they are still available. Guess it’s time to go back and find out!

I got a birthday cake from there this week, Chocolate Mousse and was not impressed with the flavor. So I was asked to bring it back and a chef came out and tasted the cake to make sure nothing was wrong with it. Maybe it is my personal preference but I was not fond of the particular flavor since I did not think it tasted chocolaty to me just sweet. Anyway I was given a different cake that was already made to sell so that was very nice since I did come back up to the shop and brought the original cake ¾ worth. I had never had a bad experience before and will continue to get sweet treats from Cretia’s since I have been going there for years.

Is it bad to drive 30 minutes just for a slice of cake? We don’t…we have no issues hopping I the car, on a whim, and going to get a slice of cake or the OMG pecan pie! Very good sweets… we haven’t tried the food yet. Even the owner has come out and sat with me to talk. Very warm and inviting place. We keep coming back!

Comfortable little place but with a big taste. The food was delish and authentic. We had just about everything. The Crab cakes were full of nothing but crab, the meatloaf was absolutely delightful, the lunch of the day was a buffalo chicken sandwich and my coworker still raved about it tip this day on how it was the best sandwich ever!!! The chicken biscuit was great and the desserts were awesome!!! The salmon could use a little more seasoning but it was good.

On this leisurely Wednesday afternoon, my husband & I stopped by Cretia’s for some lunch & some yummy bakery goods. We were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess and were told we could sit wherever we’d like. We chose a small cozy table for two right by the front windows, with the cool breeze coming through the open front door, it was the perfect spot. I have to add, the good old school R&B/Soul music that is piped through the place makes for my kind of dining experience, as well. =) We started off with an order of the Best Fried Green Tomatoes, topped with Pork Belly Cracklins, Pickled Vegetables, Arugula and Remoulade Dressing! Soooo Good! I ordered the Special of the Day, a Pulled Pork Sandwich on homemade sourdough bread, with coleslaw and hand cut fries. it was simply delicious! Hubby ordered the fresh piping hot Wagyu Burger on housemade onion bun and handcut fries. Whoa, it was super good! After we finished our scrumptious lunch, I walked over to the huge antique pie/cake bakery counter with a massive assortment of bakery goods & picked out several goodies to-go. I picked out two gigantic slices of Lemon two layer cake, two sour cream brownies & two slices of chocolate layer cake… I just couldn’t pick just one thing & it was ridiculously difficult to not pick one of Everything. So, tomorrow is my husband’s birthday & he’ll have several dessert choices for lunch & Supper. =) We’re lookin’ forward to our next visit to Cretia’s. ** I think Cretia’s would be a perfect spot for a small intimate Bridal or Baby Shower.

After coming highly recommended by a close friend, I ordered my son’s 17th birthday cake from Cretia’s. Initially I did think the cake was dense when slicing, but didn’t give it a second thought due to all the rave reviews. After handing out about 10 – 12 slices, I realized NOONE was eating the cake. When I inquired, everyone in unison complained that the cake was incredibly dry… SAHARADESERT dry. I was so embarrassed for serving it and even more so disappointed as I’d driven from McKinney, TX(where I live) to Dallas to pick it up. After the 2 hr round trip and $ 75 bucks, I still found myself at Albertsons grocery to get a cake for my son!!! WTF? I called the bakery first thing on Monday expressing my disappointment and embarrassment to be met with nothing but apologies and excuses(maybe they baked it 5 – 10 minutes too long… As if I care or if it has something to do with me). You’re a bakery… That’s what you do, right??? Michelle(the manager) of all things proposed that I make another 2 hr trip to return what’s left of the cake that didn’t go in the garbage? Needless to say, I’ll NEVER support the business in ANY way EVER again and dissuade readers to do the same. There are far better bakeries right here in Collin County that appreciate their customers.

Décor is soo cute here! I can’t get over how cute it is. Perfect for a dessert date on a beautiful day. However, service was pretty bad the day I went. It took me and my husband 10 minutes standing at the counter just to get a cookie and cupcake. I think the cashier was new because she looked pretty confused. My cookie was alright; nothing special(I got a white macadamia nut). Their strawberry cupcake was very moist and yummy!

Meh. I tried five different cookies — the strawberry, the oatmeal raisin, the lemon, the almond and the chocolate chip. They all we just«okay». They were a little dry, some even crumbled apart when I just went to pick it up. I prefer moist cookies. These were more like they were baked too long or maybe didn’t have enough rise in the dough. I wouldn’t get cookies here again.

My husband and I had lunch at Cretia’s on a Saturday around 12:30pm. Cretia’s only uses the brunch menu until 3pm so the choices were somewhat limited. I chose the Cretia’s Salad and my hubs had the Garden Omelette. My salad was very good with just the right amount of each ingredient — chicken paillard, bacon, cheddar cheese, mixed greens, tomatoes. The house dressing complemented it very well. The omelette was tasty, but he would have preferred for the accompanying potatoes to be cooked a little longer. The was a live guitarist who sounded a little like Cheryl Crow. We enjoyed the music and could still carry on a conversation. We also enjoyed the fact that the entire front of the restaurant was open so it felt like we were dining outside. The only downside was that our diet Cokes came in cans so there were no free refills — and we like to drink a lit of soda. The pies, cookies, and pastries are all made in-house and looked delicious although we didn’t try any on this visit. Maybe next time…

My fiancé recently threw a surprise party for me. I had no idea he was going to throw a party but had asked him for a Game of Thrones themed cake for my birthday. I wasn’t expecting much more than a cupcake with a little throne on it. My party was at Benihana’s. After we finished dinner this amazing cake was brought out. It was three tiers high and had«winter is coming» written across it with a beautiful fondant iron throne on top. It had butter cream frosting with decorative accents in silver frosting. Everyone was in awe of the cake including me. The cake was not difficult to disassemble and cut. It was deliciously moist and perfectly sweetened. It looked like something you’d see on Food Network. I almost felt bad that we had to cut it up. We destroyed a work of art! Now I was just the person who received the cake but my fiancé can tell you a hell of a story about finding someone who was willing to create this beautiful cake. He called several bakeries who were not willing to make a fondant cake. Most of them said they were not experienced with fondant which was honest. Another person who came highly recommended was rude and obnoxious. He went into defensive tirade about being in business for over 20 years and doesn’t make anything trademarked or copyrighted. He proceeded to belittle my fiancé just for making such a request. After being a a-hole he finished with he doesn’t work with fondant and it would be hard to find someone who does. My finance called bakery shops in New York who were willing to ship the cake but the sketches of the throne were too cartoonish. He tried more shops around town and most people just don’t want to work with fondant or do fondant work on a smaller cake. One person told him that fondant was inedible. Strange. He remembered Cretiia’s because it was located in Duncanville. The person he spoke to is a Game of Thrones fan too and was thrilled to help out. They worked out the design and got the throne right. They were willing to make a smaller cake. Cretia’s made this cake a reality. They even delivered it to Benihana’s to make sure it didn’t crack or break apart. The customer service was tip top. This cake was better than I imaged. I really thought I would get a little cupcake with a plastic throne. Instead I got this super kick ass cake that was totally delicious. It was the star of the party. Everyone ate the cake right up and left the party with a smile. I do believe this cake made all the difference. My fiancé will probably post his own review later but I have to say from my experience this cake was delicious and beautiful. Thank you to Cretia’s for making my 40th birthday memorable. I’ll ask them to help me make a cake for my fiancé when the time comes.

I won’t forget my first visit: we stayed longer than planned due to a tornado warning. The manager gave us instructions on where to take shelter if needed –in the restrooms or walk-in freezer. Meanwhile I was savoring, bite by bite, the best choc cupcake with buttercream frosting that I’ve ever had. I split a lemon bar with my partner, and it was good, but not the best I’ve eaten. I like a firmer crust and more powdered sugar on top. The flavor was good, tho. Tasted the choc pie with mocha, a flavor I don’t usually like, but it was subtle and not as noticeable as I expected. Very good. I love the eclectic old world charm of the interior –a rich, yet casual blend of items and colored. I’ll definitely return!

Got a Neopolitan cake for my 6 year old cousin’s birthday and I requested it be less sweet and more colorful/funky so as to charm the little one. I had ordered after trying one slice(giant size for $ 5). So I’d say they successfully catered to our requests and made a delicious, colorful and sparkly cake(she added edible glitters on that thing). Overall very nice staff. They are patient and polite with every customer no matter the length of the queue.

I’m sad to report that I wasn’t too impressed. This review is based on desserts only. Cretia’s in Duncanville is credited for beginning my cupcake addiction. When I heard about Cretia’s in BAD, I couldn’t wait to try, especially since it’s not so out of the way on my ride home from work. Well, I got a slice of pie and a slice of cake, blueberry custard & lemon, respectively. The pie was good, all the flavors loved on each other and it was so creamy. To avoid being a total glutton, I only tasted the the cake and that’s when my heart became sad. It didn’t really taste like a made from scratch cake; it was more like box cake mix. Even the frosting was a bit off. I will give them another try and check out the food menu but no more cake for me. It’s an OK place.

Dear Emporium Pies, It’s not you, it’s me. I’m not saying that we are breaking up, but I just want us to be able to see other people. You see, Cretia’s has both amazing pies AND cakes, plus they serve one hell of a Dr. Pepper Braised Short Rib. It was so beautiful and tasty. The pairing of mashed potatoes, blanched green beans, and arugula with a lovely vinaigrette was beautiful together. I posted a pic. I hope you like it. Also, their Grandma’s Smothered Chicken and Biscuit is divine. I definitely plan to darken your doors in the future, but I hope you understand that you may be one of hell of a Smooth Operator, but Cretia’s has my heart. I love you Cretia’s.

Definitely found another favorite spot at Bishop Arts! Chicken Salad. On Point. Desserts. Yes. Ambience: Cretia’s offers a warm, cozy and casual atmosphere, and when the weather permits the street facing wall is open and pulled back to enjoy the breeze! Very comfortably vibe with the wooden chairs and flowers on the tables. Perfect date spot for lunch or dinner! :) Food: I seriously cannot get myself to order something other than the chicken salad! I’ll usually have my dad or friend order something else to share both, but end up eating most of the chicken salad. So Good. The Chicken Salad is prepared perfectly with bits of pineapple and spiced pecans, all within the delicate crisp of a toasted croissant, and served with your choice of side(I recommend the seasonal fruit, they’re drizzled with syrup to bring out the flavors!) The Cretia’s Salad is tossed with their crispy chicken paillard, smoked bacon, tomatoes and deviled eggs. A satisfying, yet perfectly light meal to allow you to finish up your visit with some dessert! Dessert: They offer so many pies, layered cakes, and truffles, so be prepared to take some to-go for your girlfriend, even though they probably won’t make it out of the door! The Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie offers many pecans and chocolate chips inside and is packed with enough flavor to satiate your sweet tooth without being too overpowering. It’s my personal favorite! I have yet to try the many cakes and truffles they offer but I have bought several slices of the pecan pies to take home and devour! Service: The waitresses are very friendly and helpful with recommendations, and during the busy hours they do their best to come fill up your water and get you the bill! Conclusion: Park off of Davis Street if you can and grab some grub! Chicken Salad. Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie. Yass.

About 6 months ago I accidentally came across the new Cretias Bakery and Café location in Bishop Arts. The rows of buttery cupcakes remained a firm image of desire in my mind, and recently on a visit to Oak Cliff, a desert procurement stop at Cretias featured prominently on my list. Even after a brisket sandwich at Lockhart’s, no sides, my enteric mind was zombi focused on a single cupcake. What happened for a moment is that I got sidetracked by my inner fat girl at the rows of cakes, so delicately iced with white buttercream, cut to showcase fluffy pastel colored insides, and a myriad of other things like thin almond sugar cookies, with the smell of European homemade in the air. Have you seen that old cartoon where they strap a pig in a motorized chair and force feed him pies and bananas? That’s where I was headed. So I practiced some self control and didn’t purchase an entire cake, just a single strawberry cupcake, $ 2. I don’t even know why she put it in a container. I ate it standing up. The buttercream was perfect, just sweet and firm enough, and the cake, moist with the taste of real strawberries. Yeah it was like having sex. Drive by cupcake devourement can certainly brighten up anyone’s day. I’ll keep an easy press button on my brain console that will quickly direct me there when necessary — without the use of a motorized chair.
