This location looks run down, but the food is so good. It’s a chain restaurant, so I expect they’re similar all around. This is the 3rd location I’ve been to around the southeast US and the food is just as good here as it is at other locations. And hey, they have free ice cream cones(with really good ice cream), so how can you go wrong?

The only Dickey’s I will go to. The rest suck and don’t care, this one does great.

I’m so late with this review but this location deserves love. I only had visited this franchise once in the state of Washington. I hated it! I drove 6 mins home and the food was cold. My food was tasteless and the portion wasn’t to my liking… But this establishment changed my only thought of them. The food was better and I got to serve myself sides! I’m a brutha so no offense. I’m assuming the brutha working there was running the show and he deserves kudos. He was pleasant and carried our trays to our table. He and his waitress was very accommodating because my 5 month old was there and we figured out a solution to sit him somewhere so he could sleep at our table. The macaroni and cheese isn’t what I expected. Great! For a franchise like that, but I’m basing this off my terrible previous experience. The roll was hard but I count macros, and had to watch my carbs anyway. The marinated chicken and turkey was edible and I had my sauce on the side. I will return. The team here on that day, May 16th @530pm ish did well. Thank yall for excellent service. P. S. Clean Bathrooms!

I went there last year when I was in Dallas for work. A friend of mine highly recommended this place and I’m so happy I listened to him. I got the bbq sandwich and the meat melted in my mouth. Full of flavor! The mac’n cheese was one of the best I’ve eaten. I can’t wait to go back to Dallas and have some more of this AWESOME food. Way to go Dickey’s BBQ

So today, I was taking dinner to a friend of ours who had surgery. I asked her what she and her husband would like. She said that I had always told her how good Dickey’s on Forest Lane across the street from Medical City was, and that is where she wanted me to pick up dinner for them. So, I decided to try it one last time to see if that Dickey’s had improved. Jose, the guy who cuts the beef etc. was doing me a big favor today it seemed. I ordered extra lean, sliced beef. No problem… he sliced the top fat off of the brisket and cut really nice slices of beef. But that’s when it got ugly. I ordered approx. 1 and a half pounds of lean, not fatty ribs. He told me that he can’t promise me the ribs wouldn’t be fatty. I said… let me see them and if they are fatty, then I won’t buy them. He acted like he didn’t know what I was saying and kept arguing with me. Finally, Jose told a very nice young man that was working with him to get ribs from the back. While I was waiting to see the ribs, Jose was chopping beef for a large order and was… wait for it… chopping the fat he cut off of the brisket into the lean chopped beef! The woman in back of me said…” did he just chop fat into that lean chopped beef?” I said yes… I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed. Disgusting. So, the point of this is, anyone who goes to Dickey’s on Forest Lane needs to really watch what you are getting. Don’t rely on a person, like Jose, to do right by you. I payed for over $ 43.00 worth of food from Dickey’s today, and the friends that I delivered the meal to are enjoying it as I write this. The beef is lean and the ribs are lean… both delicious. But, if had I not, as a customer, said in no uncertain terms what I wanted, they would have sold me fatty, greasy food for my friends. Dickey’s can be a good place for barbecue… but they can’t afford to argue or slight or not please the customer. Customers, like me, keep them in business.

We were there at 6:00 pm tonight to get a Family Pack to go. NOT a good time for EVERYONE working in the store to be in training… EVERYONE. It was super slow and we couldn’t even get the turkey that we wanted as it was at least a 30 minute wait for it. No one apologized for the service and the fact that nobody knew what they were doing and the line waiting was long. It took at least 20 minutes to get to the register to pay and guess what, the guy was in training and had no clue what he was doing. NEVERAGAINWILL I GOTHERE.

Three stars is perfect for this place. I would pick this place over Pappa Bros BBQ. Dickey’s has better sides and their meat is very moist. The thing that get me through the door is their moist meat. It’s just an average BBQ place. Nothing special, good for a quick lunch. This restaurant is older and a little outdated.

One of my favorite places to go for barbecue. I always end up getting the big barbecue sandwich with macaroni as the side. Plus with the purchase of a meal, you get free ice cream! Overall I highly recommend this place!

If you’re desperate for BBQ and there’s nothing within 30 miles, then I’d consider it but other than that, it’s a pretty poor excuse for brisket. Very, very salty and even more dry. Again if you’re desperate ok but I won’t be back

Awesome BBQ!!! Staying at a hotel across the street on business and have visited this Dickey’s location every day this week so far. The BBQ chicken sandwiches are great. Nice and juicy with a great selection of toppings to choose from(fresh onions, pickles, etc.) The BBQ rib plate was the best! Fall off the bone, with a great BBQ sauce. They have extra sauce at the counter near the drinks if you need it. The loaded mashed potatoes and BBQ beans were really tasty. Friendly staff, and good food!

I remember my parents taking me to the original family-owned Dickey’s over 30 years ago — and this location has that same homey feel, cheerful atmosphere and succulent barbecue. I’ve been to other franchise Dickey’s in the area, and this is hands-down, the BEST one in north Dallas. The staff is so friendly — they look you in the eye and are happy to serve you. Napkins are on each table in bountiful supply for greasy finger foods like corn on the cob & ribs. The ribs are out of this world. Drinks have unlimited refills. The décor is so charming… vintage Coke signs and ice chests — but not cluttered. The interior is not gloomy dark, but rather well lit by ambient light… and not-too bright or harsh sun in your eyes. Plenty of parking in the spacious lot. This is good eating, folks. I’ve spent far more money at Sonic or other fast food and still felt hungry afterwards, and didn’t get such high quality food. This is like home made barbecue — just incredible quality. Meat on the ribs falls right off the bone — so much flavor. Everything is so fresh — nothing seems like it’s been sitting there all day. This location is a hidden gem — a lot of people have the mistaken impression that this location is closed due the huge«For Lease» sign on the wall facing Forest Ln — this is for office space adjoining Dickey’s property. There is another Dickey’s on Forest, closer to Central Expressway, but it simply isn’t even half as good and the staff is not nearly as friendly. This place is definitely worth driving another few miles down the road.

This review is «site specific», meaning that it does NOT apply to the entire restraunt chain — ONLYTHIS specific location/franchise of it. Having said THAT, this particular Dickey’s BBQ is the hidden«PLATINUM«link in the otherwise«silver» chain of Dickey’s BBQ restraunts. By appearance alone, it LOOKS like any other Dickey’s BBQ franchise — the sign is the same, the furnishings and décor, etc. What distinguishes THIS location from the rest of them that I have tried is the flavor, texture and taste of the MEAT itself ! This particular Dickey’s has been here for about 20 years, and fortunately back then, they used the highly regarded Bewely Fabricators(on S. Haskell, Dallas) to custom build their big, wood fired smoker. The biggest problem I have found with most«chain» restraunts is that they lose touch with the«art» or «finesse» and patience involved in creating the great bbq that made them popular enough to grow into a chain in the first place ! Ever notice how a small restraunt that is a typical«mom & pop»(single location) venue will frequently have better tasting, more tender BBQ than a big chain place? The reason for this is because at the«mom & pop«- the«bottom line» or cost cutting mentality(that exemplifies all corporate America) is not given priority over delivering a truly QUALITY product that is delicious ! Any good BBQ chef knows that SLOW smoking over lower heat for a longer time is the way that you get truly TENDER meat. The problem that the big chains(who sell meat by the pound) have with THAT cooking process is that it greatly reduces the size &YIELD of each and every brisket & chicken that they buy ! lol. Less yield = fewer pounds to sell = less profit. So, typically, most chain restraunts cook for a shorter amount of time and get a higher yield(more pounds to sell) and serve a tougher finished product. THAT is probably one of the biggest differences about THIS particular Dickey’s location that sets them apart from all the rest. Mr. Gerald Carter is the general manager of THIS Dickey’s BBQ location, and he requires that the meat be slow smoked for between 12 to 14 hours at a consistant lower temperature. THIS man KNOWS how to cook BBQ, and has been with Dickey’s for about 25 years ! You can sure tell the difference when the man doing the cooking really CARES about how his finished product comes out ! That custom built Bewely smoker that I mentioned has a regulator on it that works like the thermostat on your home A/C unit to maintain a consistant temperature. The end result is that it ultimately produces that great«mom & pop«, or homemade BBQ type smokey flavor with a very tender — textured finished product. HERE is where you can get ribs with juicy meat that TRULY can slide off the bone without having to chew it off. Just a little lip suction and the bone is bare and clean of all meat ! ! HERE is where the smokey tender brisket hides in Dallas. The manager and staff at THIS location always strive to be very customer service oriented and friendly, and are very pleasant folks to do business with. They are a «worry-free», FULLSERVICE Catering outfit, and will Deliver, Set-up, Serve & Clean-Up for just about any size of business/group gathering(think 10 or more folks) you might need them to handle ! They also do «box lunches» that are great for picnics and kids birthdays because you can put a slice of cake in, or toss a candy bar or fruit in it before handing them out. I discovered this Dickey’s location in 1993 when I bought a house several miles away from it, and my family has enjoyed it on a regular basis ever since ! Drop by THIS Dickey’s location and ask to talk to Gerald. Tell him that a fat guy in overalls sent you there and he just might put an extra rib on your plate ! lol. ENJOY !
