A store who likes to take advantage of young kids who are spending their money on a fun toy to play with… went in today with a «hobby grade» plane which«would not have ANY problems» when we purchased yesterday. The guy spent ten seconds explaining how to fly it(bc when we followed the instructions and watched the video we still could not do so). Then when I asked if my young son could try it himself to make sure he understood, the guy said«No, sorry he cannot. He might hit someone.» Well, this ten ounce plane might really hurt someone? Super disappointed because when we got home, this thing would not fly. So we have to go back next week because, guess what?! Their policy is no refunds. Crooks — complete crooks. Only going back to get our one item working and would never, ever return. Ever.

Again and again this is my favorite store to visit in the area. The combination of high end RC toys, collectibles and literal toys make it a overwhelming experience for kids of all ages. This location in Dallas is considered to be a main location, and it shows. Compared to my local location in Rockwall the size is nearly 4 times larger. There is a absolutely massive selection of high end toys like slot cars, trains, boats, planes, cars, trucks and helicopters among much more. Die-Cast cars in multiple scales, hobby paints, airsoft guns and an entire section of oddball board games and brain benders. I am 30 years old and the feeling of joy and wonder that you can only have by being a child returns as you walk in. This is a special place. The staff is knowledgeable, kind and helpful. The prices are fair to high… never low… but they make up for it in selection and customer service. You could get many of the things here cheaper online, but I am willing to pay a little more to get it today and deal with the fine folks at Hobby Town. Shop with confidence!

I’d previously given this place a three star review noting that the staffing help was not too good. I have to revisit this as I have noticed that the new crew working there are helpful and eager to work out whatever problems you might have. Brent is back and he is genuinely enthusiastic and knowledgeable when it comes to RC flying. If he doesn’t know the answer, he will spend time trying to figure it out for you. There is a sad trend in losing local hobby shops. While you may be able to get a supply or a kit online, the personal aspect of the hobby slides when you do not have access to someone else to give you a second set of eyes on an issue. Highly recommended.

In honor of my 400th review I want to highlight a unique GEM that probably not a lot of people know about… very fun stuff indeed, where any person can return to their childhood. Need a semi automatic air rifle? Fake poop or a whoopie cushion? What about a kite or a model car, truck or train? A chemistry set for kids? You got it… bring your children here and set them free! My girlfriend and I came here to get a kite for the Wind Festival this weekend. Upon entering we quickly discovered that this place is a wonderland for kids, AND adults of all ages! The kids section is massive with all kinds of science experiments, growing your own praying mantis kits, whatever!!! We got three kites and make a pledge to bring my girls kiddo back another time!

This is a sweet little hobby shop with one serious flaw. It’s run by a matriarch and a bunch of young guys, who may be her kin or just a bunch of young guys in need of ritalin. A really friendly bunch that knows and enjoys playing with the product… that is key. There are carefully curated sections for RC cars and planes(especially), Pinewood Derby mods(this where Cub Scouts learn to game the system and start to turn into Bernie Madoff), Japanese model planes, Estes-powered rockets, Warhammer(both Fantasy and 40K), Things That Shoot and more. If you are interested in any of these as well as others i did not sample, you will find eye and wallet candy galore. But here’s the star deduction: their return policy… or more correctly, the lack of one. Come back a few hours later to return the model in original packaging with credit card receipt because Grandma has decided to buy the boys her own gift… and you’ll be told sorry, no refunds, just a house credit. There is a sign which explains that this is to «help them maintain their pricing policy» or some such but the prices are full retail, so I don’t buy it. Very inconvenient for an out-of-town shopper who’s not likely to redeem that store credit.

Do you love remote controlled cars, trucks, and planes? Do you enjoy shooting pellet guns in your backyard? Are you more of a child than a grown-up? If you answered yes to these, you’d LOVE Hobby Town on Walnut Hill! When my husband is moody and irritating me on a lazy Sunday(I’m fine with laying around and doing nothing, but he can’t handle it for some reason), I take him to Hobby Town. Granted, we leave hundreds of dollars more broke than we started, but the hours of fun he has playing in the backyard are worth it(especially to me :))! Today, an extremely tall, hyper, and WAY too excited guy helped us find just the right remote control truck. The guys that work there are so helpful, and you can’t help but get a kick out of their nerdiness(and I say this in the nicest way, really). For those with REAL kids in your home, they also have an entire section of learning toys and games(the educator in me gets excited at this). Next lazy weekend — check it out! You’ll have fun! And they may even sneak you out back and show you how fast the cars can really go!
