Just sat down here and was told that it was BYOB. We clearly didn’t do our research and were disappointed that we couldn’t grab a beer. The gentleman seating us(I believe he was responsible for clearing all the tables), promptly asked if he could run to 7-Eleven for us and buy us a six pack so we didn’t have to make the trip. Great experience. Great service. AMAZING food! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great meal!

Yes the store has closed BUT They are still catering! I have used then twice and can attest the food is just as great! Delivery is timely. You can order both Scott’s meal items as well as Sandy’s great desserts. It is well worth ordering for your next party! Until they open the new store(Casa Linda maybe — rumor).

Southern cookin’ done to ALMOST perfection… ALMOST! I recently came and sat on the patio for dinner to catch up with two girlfriends I used to work with. After throwing out several suggestions, they agreed in this place. As most southern comfort food goes — it’s not for the calorie conscious. Make it a cheat day if you are worried! THERESTO: It’s a comfortable and cozy(read: small) joint in and out, but since we went for early dinner and after some heavy rain we didn’t have a problem finding a table… on the«patio». I had a puppy with me, so we had to sit outside. Good thing they are dog-friendly! Only two or three tables are available outside because it’s basically a wide sidewalk and not a patio. But, if it’s a not-to-hot day, you get to people watch while sitting out there. Parking is like any other place in lower greenville. Lots of parallel — hope you’re lucky kinda parking. THEFOOD: The food was mostly badass! Since there were three of us, we started with the 3 pigs in a pashmina. Why a pashmina you ask? Because a pashmina is more luxurious than a blanket! It does not resemble a pig in a blanket. It’s a puff pastry filled with beef sausage, pepper jack and cheddar cheese, and pickled jalapeño. It was served with a sauce that I can’t remember but it had strawberry in it and paired well with the pigs! It had our taste buds dancing! It can only get better from here, right?! A friend and I split the jalapeño crawfish mac & cheese and the open face chicken pot pie. The mac & cheese was good, but it wasn’t mac & cheese as expected. It was a creamy pasta dish with bacon, crawfish, and jalapeño. The open face chicken pot pie is what let us down(hence — loss of one star). The chicken and potatoes in the mix were undistinguishable from one another. The flavor just was not a homerun. It came with a side of veggies which was good. We def went home with leftovers! My other friend went for the biscuit burger. She was the smartest of the bunch, leaving us with food envy after we had a taste of her burger! It had a jalapeño, bacon cheddar beef patty on a jalapeño bacon cheddar biscuit, topped with MORE jalapeño, bacon, cheddar, caramelized onion and mayo(I’d go w/o mayo). I was jelly!!! We all wanted dessert, but no one wants to be THAT fat girl who orders it. I said eff it, we’ll split a slice of lemon meringue pie! This is one of my fave pies — and it was done magnificently here! The lemon custard is perfectly tangy, the meringue light and fluffy, all nestled in a flaky pie crust. Not a morsel was left behind! THESERVICE: I always try to remember a good server who goes above and beyond. For the life of me, I can’t remember the young man’s name. Sorry, dude(Javier maybe? idk!)! Either way, shout out to you for being a kick-ass server in your faux overalls! haha! Great people work here and were all attentive. They even tried to help me with the pup I was trying to adopt out. Vere sweet people! 411ONADULTDRINKS: When I was there(June 2013), they didn’t have their liquor license yet. However, they were serving some complimentary tasty watermelon sangria. Yes, it was probably more fruit juice than wine, but it was delish and the server never let our glasses go empty! Come and get the app to dessert experience by sharing an entrée! You won’t regret it!

Oh. My. Gravy. My biggest complaint was the weather, and the not so brilliant chicken n dumplings. Everything else was freaking amazeballs. This was our latest Wednesday Night Supper Club outing and I will be back, again and again and again and… oh, you get the idea. There was only one other occupied table due to the storm, and we were offered a choice of the picnic table in front, and or a regular table in the back. Being that a couple of us needed a back to our seat, we chose the regular table. I’d like to say it took us a while to decide, but we had our apps picked pretty much before we walked in the door. Deviled eggs, pigs in a pashmina, and the sausage balls. My companion felt the deviled eggs were a bit runny, but I’ve got no idea what she was talking about — mine were def not runny, but def solidly tasty. The sausage balls came with a Cajun remoulade, made with spicy Jimmy Dean sausage and were pretty damn tasty. The star appetizer was the pigs in a pashmina though. I think we all agreed we could easily make a meal of them, and some of us just might. Don’t judge. We took a little longer to order entrees: I needed to taste the Texasian salad before I was willing to make a choice, and they were very accommodating. Once I tasted it, my mind was made up: Open faced smoked chicken pot pie please and thank you. We also ordered the crawfish pot pie, aforementioned chicken n dumplings, and the craw mac — bacon-crawfish-jalapeño mac and cheese, which was judged by all who tasted it to be the very best food at the table. I loved my pot pie, did not try the chicken n dumplings after they were pronounced somewhat nasty by the Looseanna girl at the table and also never did manage a bite of the mac and cheese. I might have been entirely too full from appetizers. Don’t judge. Pie. Pie. No really, PIE. We ordered 3 pieces of pie for our table of 4 — chocolate peanut butter crème, buttermilk chess, and banana crème. I listed them in the order in which we placed the order for them, and also how we ranked them after eating every bite and licking the plates clean. I mean, sampling them. Luckily no one was stabbed in the back of the hand by another’s fork, but I could see it happening easily. I’m pretty sure I could come in for pigs in a pashmina and take home an entire chocolate peanut butter crème pie and be happy for an entire weekend. But I won’t. Our server Añu, was spot on with her service and recommendations, and one of the owners told us she’d happily accommodate just about any kind of pie request given enough lead time. They were also very quick to send us the catering information, which is good because our office caters in lunch on a fairly regular basis, and um, yeah. Once again, I made it home just in time to collapse on the couch in a very happy and sated state of food coma bliss. And I might have fallen dead asleep on the couch and not moved until 2am. Don’t. Judge.

A few friends and I go to dinner once a month to try new restaurants and this month was my pick. After last months choice of Ethiopian, I thought I’d take it easy on my friends and go good ol’ southern food… none of them complained about this pick. We arrived last night to an almost empty place, only one other table occupied thanks to the stormy weather. We ordered 3 appetizers: deviled eggs, sausage balls and the pigs in pashmina. All 3 were good but by far the favorite was the pigs in a pashmina… it is the best play on pigs in a blanket I’ve EVER had. It was smoky, spicy, cheesy, yummy heaven with a delicious homemade mustard sauce and I must return to get a tray of those suckers anytime I have company… or just ’cause. The deviled eggs were good, the filling needed a little salt and was a little on the runny side for my tastes… but by no means a bad choice. The sausage balls were good too, just hard to compete with the little squares of link sausage heaven. We all tried different entrees to get a good overall taste of the menu… some hits and misses. At the servers recommendation of the best potpie being the Louisiana potpie, I got that one. Meh… I’m a Louisiana girl so my standards are higher than most… no spice at all. The carrots were undercooked so there was a crunch amongst soft potatoes, onions, bell pepper and crawfish… it stuck out and threw me a min… but all in all tasted ok but I wouldn’t get it again. My friends smoked chicken potpie was a better choice in my opinion, but she too had the crunchy carrots, oh well. The worst dish of the night goes to my friend Felicia, chicken and dumplings. The worst I’ve EVER had and I had these once a week growing up by my grandmother who was deemed at church«The Dumplin Lady» and sold plate lunches of her chicken and dumplings for years. I know my dumplin’s and these last night were lumpy, disentigrating and just gross — a telltale of a dumplin’ pot that has been stirred waaaay too much. My grandmother always said — DON’T stir the dumplin’s!!! She would only gently reach to the bottom to make sure none stuck and burned. Cracker Barrell’s dumplings are better. But enough of that, we have to address the best entrée… crawfish mac n cheese… why oh why didn’t I order this… I wanted it all to meeself but only got 2 tastes. The meal ended in fireworks and foodgasms with pie. There are no words to describe how good their pies are — some of the best pie I’ve EVER had in my life. This pie was out of this world. The peanut butter chocolate was my favorite but it was almost a toss up with the chess pie… I have had a lot of chess pie but this was more like a lemony custardy chess pie. More creamy and smooth — just phenomenal. In the end, we would each go back and would all love to try their brunch menu. The service was excellent and when you go — don’t miss out on PIE!!!

I don’t do brunch very often, but this could possibly be the best place for brunch in Dallas! It is a small place, but I have hopes they will one day take over the empty spot next to them on Greenville Ave. I have been there 2 times so far, and I have had the pulled pork Benedict and chicken pot pie on a biscuit… both were delicious! My jeans felt a little tighter when I left, but it is definitely worth every calorie. They do not serve cocktails, but it is for the best since I should not be drinking on a Sunday anyway. If you experience a wait to get in on the weekends, maybe try to go during the week for dinner… or just wait it out, as good things do come to those who wait! On another note, we went by before Thanksgiving, and they will cook the entire Thanksgiving meal for you, or just the turkey. I am bummed we did not take them up on the offer. Maybe next time.

Being from Texas i have had my share of Fried Catfish — and i am a little choosey about it… But this was the best i have had… no need to put anything on it is perfect as it comes to you on the plate. The place is small but the staff is very nice service was good. My friends had several of the other dishes for lunch and said they were good but i will be having the cat fish on my next trip.

Whoa! The name of the restaurant explains it all. The whole vibe of the place makes you feel at home and at ease, not to mention the food, which is really comforting(and filling!). The décor of the place is perfect. Jars of pickled peppers and corn relish line the walls. There are several deviled egg serving dishes on display. Jars with green onions instead of flowers are placed on each table. Just a touch of down south décor without going overboard with it. The food is crazy. I ordered the fried catfish biscuit sandwich. Wow. I’ll just tell you that I killed it, and I didn’t eat until lunch the next day. So filling and tasty. The fish was fried to perfection… hot, crispy, and seasoned perfectly. The huge biscuit(and I mean HUGE) was too good… light, buttery, flaky and perfect. The side of fries were excellent, naturally cut and seasoned just right. If the atmosphere and food being excellent wasn’t enough to get you to try Jacks, the service was even better. They were the nicest and most accommodating staff that I’ve experienced lately! The chef even came out and asked if everything was good. I can’t say enough good things about this place. We went at about 1:30pm during the week, it was relatively easy to get in and out. But if you go on the weekend or during the lunch rush, I expect it would be kind of hard to get a table in a decent length of time, but it’s definitely worth the wait!

I haven’t been to lower Greenville in over eight years at least. I live in Denton, so what do I need to hike all the way down here for? Well, I guess things change and I guess I need to make more visits outside the Denton area. I made the trip down here with my daughter to get a little fresh ink on me. We had to wait so we got some dinner and afterwards wanted to satisfy our sweet tooth. In our case chocolate tooth. We walked past Jack’s and I saw the dessert case… yeah we went in. It’s a nice little homey type place. Jars of every type of pepper jam and jelly, green trucker-type hats with Jack’s logo, nice artwork on the walls and the smell of good comfort food. Now back to that dessert case. Coconut cream pie, chess pie, pecan pie, banana cream pie? And the item that was on the viewing level of a certain four year old, a chocolate marshmallow square. Yep, we knew what we were getting. We were informed that everything was homemade, in-house. Nice. It was heated up and brought over to us and all I can say is wow. Creamy, chocolatey, velvety and just oooey-gooey goodness. And as my daughter said«yummy». It was gone in five minutes flat. At $ 5.95 for the square it was a bit steep but it was soooo good. This is a southern comfort food establishment and the menu items do show it. Shrimp and cheese grits, meatloaf biscuit sandwich, bacon– crawfish mac and cheese, fried catfish and a smoked chicken pot pie, just to name a few items. They serve brunch as well and it looks as if everything is made in-house. On the occasion that I get down here again, I will make it a point to eat more than dessert here. Enjoy.

First the good stuff. Jack’s is located in the revitalized part of Lower Greenville. The décor is charming, the service attentive, and the prices reasonable. I really wanted to like the place. The problem is the flavor of the food — and that flavor is salt. It’s the only thing you can taste. I tried one of the upside down pot pies(actually two, because they brought me the wrong one the first time around). The biscuit part was great, but the topping — crawfish the first time and pork with green chiles the second — had no flavor other than salt. Brine, really. I love crawfish and was prepared to stick with the mis-delivered entrée until I tasted it. So that went back and the pork arrived. I ate a couple of bites and gave up. I tried some of my husband’s chicken — same problem. It was overwhelmed with salt. So I can’t recommend the place, which is too bad, because I think if they backed off on the salt, the food would actually be quite good. Note to the wait staff: If I leave most of my food on my plate, that’s a signal that I didn’t like it. If you ask, «How was everything?» I’m likely to say that it was fine, rather than complaining. However, since you already know it wasn’t fine, don’t badger me about taking the remainder in a to go box. If I say I don’t want to take the left overs, just accept that. Don’t ask me if I’m sure. Really, I’m sure.

Usually, Unilocal leads me to the right place. But this time around it failed on me completely. I was watching House of Cards(which is amazing) and wanted some Southern comfort food, and i remembered this place being on lower Greenville. It’s a small place and we were seated immediately and I already know what I wanted, the upside pot pies. We first started off with some deviled eggs and deep fried balls and they were pretty good. a solid B i would say. i ordered the lemonade and THAT was an A. It was the four of us(two couples) and we decided to get the pot pies; one chicken and the other one brisket. When the food came out we were like, «where’s the chicken?» and«where’s the brisket?» I was expecting a good, hearty portion but sadly there was nearly nothing. After poking through with a fork i found a couple of measly chicken pieces and my friends found a few tiny brisket pieces. The sauce was(for us, chicken) too salty. And why does the chicken pot pie have so much veggies? Gag! The waitress asked us twice if everything was okay, and we just nodded but didn’t say anything and i regret that the most, i should have said something immediately but didn’t. The overall dish, the main dish was really disappointing. I had a few bites and just put my fork down. When we were up to pay, the manager/owner(?) asked if everything was okay, and once again i just was like okay. If it was just me and hubby, I would have said something and complained but I didn’t want to cause a scene and then put me in a bad mood and probably ruin the night. When we left my couple friend thought the exact same thing and also agreed we should have said something as soon as we got our plates. Anyway, sorry we will not be back.

Hubby and I went in on a week day around 2pm. Place was empty. I’m sure the lunch rush was over by then. We ordered sausage balls for appetizer and they were good… I didn’t DIE for them, and not sure I would order again but they were good. I ordered the Pork and Green Chile Pot Pie and hubs ordered the Jalapeño Bacon Cheese Burger on a biscuit. My food was very yummy, BUT my husbands burger was UNBELIEVABLE! Wow… never had anything like that. We both wanted to try pie so we got 2 slices to go. He got chess pie and I got Chocolate Pie. While everything was tasty and we will definitely be back to dine, it was pretty pricey for lunch. We for sure would wither forgo the appetizer and the pie or maybe just 1 slice of pie. My chocolate pie was good, but not so amazing I would be craving it or dying for that pie. We had wonderful service, I love that the chef came out to check on us and see how the food was and we will for sure be back.

A Unilocal-directed dinner choice went amazing well! We showed up about 10 minutes before closing on Thursday night, and the guy at the register(later, our server) and the woman delivering beautiful pies(later, the owner!) said they were happy to accommodate us. We started with fried green tomatoes and Jimmy’s sausage balls. The tomatoes relied heavily on the jalepeno jelly, but were breaded and fried well; the sausage balls were slap-yo-momma delicious. Main course for me was the smoked chicken potpie; the hubs had shrimp and grits. The potpie was good — the buttermilk biscuit was burned and the smoke flavoring was a little heavy, but it was creamy and winter-warmth. Hubs said the grits were good but a little watery — a biscuit may have helped him out. Dessert was a shared piece of buttermilk pie that was heavenly. Our server let us know that their brunch is second to none — so we’ll go back and give that a try! Note: they are byob for now — and they offer you a complimentary watermelon sangria — give it a whirl!

Yes yes yes yes yes. This place has everything: BISCUITS, cute décor, good location, some parking, soul food, pot pies(with BISCUITS), regular pies, random free watermelon sangria… oh man. So much tasty sounding stuff on the dinner menu… and at lunch they have all manner of biscuit sandwiches! So far only been for dinner though, but many a future visit awaits me. We had the mac n’ cheese with bacon and crawfish and jalapenos… which actually was way too oily and spicy. But my green chile pork pot pie was pretty heavenly, as was the chocolate peanut butter pie. Normally if one of our dishes isn’t that good I wouldn’t give five stars but I just really feel like we need this place. I would be willing to bet most of the other stuff on the menu is pretty good, and I’ll be back to find out. And I’ll be back at lunch, for biscuit sandwiches. And possibly get some catering sometime. And I think they have brunch too, so that.

Being a sucker for all things Southern, I was very excited about Jack’s opening up on Greenville Ave this summer. For weeks before they opened I followed their social sites and even checked out the menu a few times to dream about the day I could finally sink my teeth into their delicious sounding dishes. With that said, I visited Jack’s Southern after they had been open a few months in order for any kinks to be worked out and still left disappointed. The restaurant itself is tiny and quaint which I like but it is a bummer how close all the tables are together and it feels like everyone is listening to your conversations. I would suggest that Jack’s be more of a Southern to-go spot rather than a place you go to dine. I went at an off hour and there was only one other table besides mine taken at the time. It took the waitress over 10 minutes to come by and greet me or for anybody to bring water. When the waitress came she asked if the table was ready to order which is frustrating since we werent told of any specials that were going on or felt like we could ask questions about the menu. We started with the deviled eggs that everyone raves about. I personally couldnt wait to try the chicken pot pie as I’m a sucker for those no matter where I go! The meal was about on par with the service, fine but nothing special. I was disappointed in the food since I was so excited to try it but it just didnt deliver. Everything seemed under seasoned and a bit generic. I would definitely try out Jack’s Southern again at some point with the hope that it gets better in time but I wouldnt say that I will be as excited to go back as I was before my first visit.

Wow, absolutely phenomenal food. My girlfriend and I have come in twice recently and we love the food here. Everything we’ve tried has been great, if not amazing. Their pot-pies are unique and some of the most delicious entrees you’ll find… jalepeno crawfish bacon mac and cheese, yes please! They’re giving out a watermelon sangria until they get a liquor license… you’ll need it to control your saliva while looking at the menu. Everyone is super-friendly. Terance is the main cook… he’s from New Orleans, moved here when Katrina happened, and is one of Dallas’s biggest secrets. He’ll come out to see how everything tastes and entertain you as well. Great location, but very small(maybe seats ~30). Would be difficult to come in with a large party. While located directly adjacent to a large empty parking lot, they’re facing issues with the landlord across the street who has rights to it. The second time we went, it was chained off and had to drive around a bit before parking a ways away. Food is a little pricey but definitely worth it from time to time for some good ol’ comfort food.

Thank God I wore my «eatin» pants! And for all those health freaks that are going to eat here and then complain that it’s not healthy food – suck it. It’s right there in the name – SOUTHERNCOMFORTFOOD. They serve fried chicken, smokey gumbo, shrimp on cheese grits, deviled eggs, homemade pimento and cheese, biscuits, pot pies, pork belly and sopapilla cheesecake that may actually call for a defib. The chef, Terrance, ventured out of the kitchen or a quick photo with our group. He was a HOOT! Love him. As other folks mentioned, he did have on a NO hat – we will have to forgive him for that – but it does tout his culinary upbringing. Every chef I’ve met from NOLA has fed me well! They are still awaiting the liquor license, so bring your own hooch. It is not cheap, but it’s priced right for what you are getting. Two people with an appetizer = $ 50 after tip. Totally in line with today’s prices. Also, they sell super cute homemade trendy aprons. Half the proceeds go to breast cancer research! They have a to-go food and bakery counter. And I bought a jar of blackberry jalapeño jelly to put over some cream cheese later.

Not a super kid friendly brunch menu but they were happy to accommodate. I wanted to like this more than I did, every one was so friendly. The chef made off-the-menu fried chicken for my daughter and chatted up my 11-year-old son. I ordered the polenta, with brisket chili on it and topped with a fried egg. I think I totally deserved what I got. The food gods were slapping me in the face for making such a poor dietary choice. The fried egg was fried hard… really hard… like maybe fried the day before and placed on top as a garnish hard. The chili was just a little too spicy for me and the polenta didn’t seem quite hot. It seemed like almost everything on the brunch menu was served on a biscuit… I guess their biscuits are a big deal. My son got one, and while I didn’t taste it, it was about as big as his head and looked like it would sit like a stone in the bottom of your stomach. My biggest disappointment was that there was no food in the display cases. It was Sunday morning and I guess they were out of everything, but the descriptions sounded good. The biggest disappointment was the price. I ended up spending almost $ 60 before tip on brunch for me and two children. Since both the kids ordered off the menu, I had no idea how much it would be. It just wan’t worth it.

They take brunch reservations, hallelujah! Granted we didn’t need them as we were the only ones there for a good half an hour. Good thing the dining room wasn’t quiet for a reason because the food and service did not disappoint. To the cool points. First point goes to complementary mimosas. Second to $ 1.50 cups of coffee(remember when coffee was always that much before S*bux Effed it up?). Third to not having fried chicken and waffles on the menu. The food was quite tasty. Our group of three decided to share a sticky bun and 3 different entrees. I would recommend doing this as I can see where eating one dish fully can get a bit too rich. The sticky bun was amazing, it reminded me of a Disneyland churro with nuts on it. Other highlights were the Pigs in a Pagmina, and the brisket chili. Go out an support this deserving establishment in Lower Greenville. I am excited to see more from this cool Dallas neighborhood.
