Try the plantains with cream. It’s like heaven in your mouth. And their refried beans are the best I’ve had.

I frequented this little Salvadorean gem after not visiting for a year or so, it hasn’t been open long. Not a real dine-​in kind of place, they cook to order each pupusa (kind of like a gordita but sealed up or a flattened empanada), the owner, Eduardo, is really friendly and helpful and the nice cocineras from the back even came out to talk to my twin brother and I, actiing as if they hadn’t seen gringos in years (the were a bit shy, endearingly so). I ordered the pusupas revueltas which are con queso y frijol, con locorro y queso, con calabaza y queso and un one with plain queso, although they have other choices as well. They also feature a nice orchata (rice drink with vainilla and canela (cinnamon) and I tried one tamal de gallina, wrapped in a banana leaf and stuffed with potatoes and loads of chicken, almost twice the size of a regular Mexican tamale. I’ll admit, Salvadorean food differs a bit from Mexican, don’t expect it to be just like Mexican, keep an open mind. If you want dinner for two on 7 bucks, this is a great place for take-​out and an interesting and delicious cultural experience as well. It’s just a little off the track for an adventurous Addisonite looking for something cheap and new.
