We started with the chips n salsa, which are really the best I’ve had in Dallas. We always order the steak quesadillas because they really are the best. We also ordered the chicken quesadillas and enchiladas. They were all great, brought out just in time. We ended with the sopapilla with ice cream and the fried cheesecake. That cheesecake and the chips and salsa alone were worth the trip downtown. The manager came by at the end of the meal to check on us. He was very friendly and accommodating. The weather was perfect and we wish we could have sat outdoors but it was full, guess everyone had the same idea.

Immaculate facility, great atmosphere, incredible food, and even better service. I got the steak fajitas and they exceeded my expectations. So colorful and full of flavor, this restaurant hits the nail on the head. AJ provided perfect service, making sure my glass was never empty, and providing good conversation. A++

Went there for an invite tonight,(1−26−16), and had an amazing dinner! The staff was exceptional, the service was up to par, and more. The food exceptional. The Camaron Al Pastor tacos, were the perfect blend of all flavor a, pair it with the drink, Nector of the Gods, and you can’t go wrong. The Pozole Verde, was rich with flavor, with a hint of spicy and full to those that enjoy a good soup. Though my favorite was the Café Carne Con Constar… No words can describe the tenderness and the flavor that this plate can give. Exceptional over all! Kudos!

I’m on the fence about rating this restaurant 3 or 4 stars. 3.5 is about right. I’ll say this– compared to the other Mexican restaurant I tried while in Dallas, this one was considerably more impressive food-wise. We were greeted upon entering and seated quickly. I was honestly surprised at how empty it was — it’s dark, but cozy, appeared clean, and somewhat modern. There were also tables outside. The bar is against the back wall. There were no patrons there, and no bartender. I guess that makes sense, but it somewhat turned me off that there was no bartender manning the bar. It almost felt like we were there when it was about to close for the evening. Onto the service-the host, servers, and manager were all friendly and helpful. We did run into difficulties when asking for a substitution on one of the salads(chicken for shrimp), my salad dressing was not on the side as I requested it to be, and my partner asked the server and manager what was so spicy and nobody was able to truly identify what made her salad SO spicy. This was a bit frustrating, but considering the staff was more so not understanding versus being difficult, I’ll let that go. Additionally, when I asked for a to-go container for the salsa, I was brought a new salsa in the container to go, which was nice. I liked the fact that there were more«American» options at this restaurant for those of us who prefer something less spicy, more plain, etc. The chips and salsa were very good, as was the guacamole. Delicious! I substituted grilled chicken(plain, with no spices) onto my salad instead of the shrimp. I was happy my request was accommodated. The grilled chicken had a nice taste to it, which is saying a lot, considering I asked for it plain and there was no spice to hide the natural taste of it. My salad was more Americanized — it had pomegranate dressing(which was very good), walnuts, etc. This was fine by me and I was happy. Overall, I was pleased with Rj’s and would consider going back again. The only thing is — I saw that Unilocal had a promotion for the restaurant, but due to the difficulties the staff had in understanding our questions/requests, I did not purchase the deal because I feared the staff would not know how to process the discount.

Outstanding Steak fajitas, best I can remember having. Service was outstanding. Place did not smell like a mop like the previous comment stated. Would highly recommend if in the area.

Food was good, but the waiter threw $ 10-$ 13 in additional charges for each person at the table(party of 10), saying it was a side of guacamole. That’s over $ 100 in guac?! Don’t plan on coming back, also changing the reservation we had for tomorrow elsewhere.

We stopped in here for lunch. It is a good sized place with good décor. We started with the Caso Compesto with the guacamole on the side. It was tasty. Everyone enjoyed it. For my meal I chose the pasta. It was linguini topped with chorizo, chicken, cream sauce, peppers and cheese. It was very good. It had several rich flavors that went well together. While the food was good, the service was lacking. The time between visits by our server was lengthy. He also was not helpful or friendly. My hope is he was the exception and not the rule, because the food was solid.

If you’re looking for an exceptional culinary experience for Mexican cuisine in Dallas, look no further. The restaurant offers a warm and inviting atmosphere coupled with excellent food delivered by phenomenal servers. Moreover, one of the owners and the General Manager personally visited our table to ask how things were. I cannot recommend it more strongly!

Oh my gosh, the salsa and chips were on POINT! We got our own salsa bowls– thank you! Who likes sharing salsa? The salsa had pieces of avocado which were a great touch. My margarita tilapia was super good and filling too! My sister got the pasta with chicken and complained that it was spicy so watch out for that! If you check in on Unilocal you get 10% off, yippee!

The service here sucks. The waiter took forever to get our order, food and Bill. Food was okay. Bathroom atrocious, no toilet paper, soap and machine for paper towel did not work. One bathroom has no lock. Don’t do it! Skip this place

We came here for Christmas dinner and they had a buffet. The restaurant was very nice and seemed a good place to dine. We were hoping the food would be good and it was! They had a lot of variety, enough to make our entire party of 7 happy. Our waiter Zamaar was such a friendly server and made sure we had everything we needed. Definitely would come here again. We left stuffed and jolly!

I wandered Northwest out of the Hyatt for a half mile into the Historic West End District looking for dinner and found RJs. It was before six and I found the place to myself initially. My server was awesome and we chatted quite a bit as I was his only table. Off the menu, I picked their Pork Carnitas Tacos and a Dos XX Lager to wash them down. My meal appeared quickly and was well prepared. I loved the shredded pork in the soft shell taco. The shell was tough enough not to rip apart while being consumed. Warning their mildest salsa was rippin’ spicy to me causing me to order a second Dos XX. Good job, mission accomplished. That dish was enough to fill me up so no dessert this evening. At this point, folks started showing to eat and some street performers were practicing their art on the sidewalks outside. Time to move along.

Just okay Mexican food. I went here because it was raining and I didn’t want to go too far from the hotel. The food was ok, I had fajitas that came out a little overcooked and lacked any real flavor, but it wasn’t horrible. Everything about this place was average, nothing I would run back too, but nothing I would run away from either.

Visiting our friends Mimi and Tony in Dallas/Ft. Worth for the torrential flood/Halloween weekend, we had dinner yesterday at RJ Mexican Cuisine. Being from California, we certainly have our fair share of Mexican food, but this was far closer to the exquisite upscale meals we’ve had in Guadalajara, for example, than your average Mexican meal we think of here in the States. .. or even Cabo or Tijuana. Executive Chef Ronald Von Hatten, or «RV» to his friends, came out to our table and made us Californians feel as if we’d been not just regular customers, but«Friends for Life.» A gracious host, and a talented chef, he made sure our visit was as enjoyable and fun as it was tasty and satisfying. We started with some excellent fresh Margaritas made by Adriana, and the following appetizers: Guacamole Supreme(guacamole, lump crabmeat, pico de gallo, ranch), and their take on Nachos(ahi tuna, jalapeño, pico de gallo, avocado butter, sriracha aioli, taro chips) — both were delicious, but the flavor of the ahi, coupled with the creaminess of the avocado and the balance of heat /spice /undercurrent of sweetness between the sriracha, pico de gallo, and the taro was a real treat! Lynn & I both had a chipotle-rubbed steak that managed to achieve a perfect balance heat & spice AND allowing the delicious flavor of the Texas beef to come through. This was served with one of the best Chile Relleno I’ve ever had. Filled with shrimp, tomato, onion, serrano chiles, cilantro, and Mexican cheeses, it was almost tempura-like in its light crispiness — not oily or at all heavy! — and the shrimp were perfectly cooked, plump, sweet and delicate(it’s way too easy to overcook shrimp in a preparation like this). This place was truly exceptional, both in the care they take with their patrons and in the quality of their cuisine. I know we’ll be coming back. .. already looking forward to it!

I came here with a group of 4 for lunch. I got the chicken fried steak, my mother got the tilapia and the others got taco plates. The chicken fried steak was pretty good; not too chewy, well seasoned and a nice coating of gravy. The garlic potatoes and vegetables also had a good flavor. Sadly, my chicken fried steak was the best dish of the 4. The tilapia was okay, just on the greasy side. The taco shells were 100% stale; it was difficult to even break them with my hands. The taco beef was very greasy as well. The two who ordered the tacos didn’t even eat them. There was another table next to us that ordered tacos who didn’t eat theirs either. All in all, if you want Mexican I wouldn’t recommend. Their American food was better but not the greatest. Also, I was originally going to rate this 2 stars but the manager apologized for the shells and took the 2 taco meals off.

Good, but overpriced in my opinion. Everything could have been $ 2 cheaper, and the quality would be the same. I was in town for a conference and one of my friends picked it because our group recommended it. And, it’s within walking distance to our hotel. We made a reservation and were seated immediately. Fiancé and I split the steak fajitas, and they were okay. Not a lot of toppings, but made well. The complimentary chips and salsa filled us up, too. That’s about it for this place. Overpriced, and not memorable. Next time I’m in town, I’m going to try and steer clear of RJ’s. I’ve had better, more memorable food for less.

You really do have to know what to get here and what not to get here. I came here for lunch on a weekday and had a good experience. We were seated outside and our service was really good. First, I wasn’t a huge fan of the queso. It reminds me of velveeta or some other type of processed yellow cheese product. I would pass on this and get the guacamole, which I think they make in house. For lunch, I got the chicken tortilla soup which was delicious. It was probably the best I’ve had in Dallas and was a perfect lunch portion. I will definitely come back for the soup!
