While the staff is very friendly and nice, I really can’t recommend this practice for several reasons: 1) The staff require you to confirm appointments the day before your appointments. I can understand that they are trying to avoid people being late or miss their appointment, but I don’t always have phone access until after they close and it’s a pain to have to listen to their voice mail, then call them back to tell them that I do want the appointment that I already said I would go to. This alone would prevent me from going back to them. 2) I haven’t seen Dr. Sherrill, but I have seen Dr. Shaw. While he is a nice guy, he is very hands off in interacting with his patients in that he will only glance at your x-rays, mention things to his assistant, who then tells you what the dentist recommended. I really dislike this style of communication, and Dr. Shaw recommended procedures that I really should have gotten a second opinion for since he never showed me any x-rays or photographs proving that I needed the dental work. Then, while performing the dental work, the only things he show up for are the anesthesia, the drilling, and the fill or fitting. Everything else he hands off to an assistant to do, including the polishing of any fillings. 3) They’re pretty liberal with the painkillers here, and it took over 4 hours for the Novocaine to start wearing off for me. I can understand using enough anesthetic so the patient can’t feel the drill, but usually I feel completely normal 4 hours after having a filling done. 4) I had to go back because one of the fillings wasn’t polished/adjusted properly and was causing a lot of pain with my bite. I really don’t appreciate taking an afternoon out to do this. 5) One of the fillings Dr. Shaw performed for me in has already started leaking(not six months later).

No one likes the dentist. This is not a secret. However, as far as dentists go, this place is the best. I am a patient of Dr. Sherrill. I have never met Dr. Shaw, but I have only heard good things about him as well. I have many phobias. The most uncommon phobia of mine would probably be the fear of pedicures. Two of my more common phobias, which you may have as well, are that of dentist work and needles. I called to schedule an appointment as a new patient because of some pain I was having and got a spot about 4 weeks later. However, less than a week after that call, they found an earlier appointment for me, so I ended up being seen less than a week after the appointment request. The office is very inviting. Everything appears to be very well organized and professional. The ladies at the front desk are very friendly, and have been in a good mood every time I have been in. The whole place is decorated with warm and inviting autumn colors. Very relaxing. The hygienist was very friendly and professional. They were all in a good mood as well. Despite the fact that I hadn’t been to the dentist in over 5 years, I was very comfortable the whole time. The chairs have massage pad things and there is a TV with beach scenes, or an aquarium, or something similar. After the cleaning and x-rays Dr. Sherrill came in. He was very professional. He is soft spoken and friendly, yet not so friendly that he wastes your time. They are very efficient and really don’t waste time in your day. I had to go back twice to fill cavities. For such procedures, you’re offered many comforts: sound proof headphones with satellite radio(or you can plug in your iPod as I did), massaging chair, and nitrous oxide a.k.a. the gas. The assistant is very friendly and remembered me the second time. The first time I didn’t opt for the gas. The second time I did. While the second was obviously much better(how can you not love the gas?), the first certainly was not a bad experience even with my phobias. Both times they were very quick and efficient, yet took the time to ask me if I was okay and make sure I was still comfortable. The first time when I wasn’t zonked by the gas, he was talking about what he was doing the whole time, which was very comforting. My hubby who is not afraid of dentists or needles went in for one single filling and didn’t even notice when Dr. Sherrill stuck the needle in. Anyway, I’d recommend stopping by if you’re looking for a dentist. It will be worth the trip. FYI the website has not shown up on the info yet:
