I hadn’t gone to sunset in years so when I finally went, I was pleased by the new layout and added tvs but was upset that the new management took the tacos off the menu. I would only go to sunset for the freaking tacos. They were the best in town. Other than that, place is very small and gets crowded fast on weekends. Cool spot to hear music and people watch while you sweat due to so many ppl being there.

Me and the wife stop by after a early Mothers Day dinner. Yes we had Mothers Day dinner on a Saturday beats the crowd on Sunday. This was a nice day party atmosphere. The only thing I didn’t like was we paid, next check ID, and them you get in. Hold what’s wrong with that… You didn’t check my wife purse or search her, you didn’t search me… Really was uncomfortable the entire time not knowing if the person next to us had a blade or gun because it looked like this was the hoods best kept secret just Seated in uptown.

This place is just ok. I liked the food menu and layout before they remodeled. Before there was a bar in the covered patio/sunroof area but that has been removed. There is only one bar in the main room now. Also they placed a «island«(for lack of better words) In the middle of the the dance floor to accommodate people buying tables and bottles. I get the purpose but the venue itself is soo small that it really disrupts the flow of walking around. Also they used to have these BOMB tacos and Caribbean drinks served in tiki inspired cups(the rum runner was my fav). Now they serve these average flatbread pizzas and paninni sandwiches. I have more recently gone on Sundays and it’s a hip hop crowd with a good DJ. There’s never a cover charge and parking is a hit or miss when it comes to being able to find a free spot or having to valet.

I gave this place an honest chance and it just did not impress and fell flat. Came here for a friend’s birthday dinner, just a table of 4, not a huge party. Service was poor and slow. We could never find out waitress when we needed her. She forgot half of the table’s order and they waited for a very long time for their food. The menu selection wasn’t that great and the when we finally got our food it was nothing spectacular. They’re open late if you’re looking for something to munch on after spending some time out in Lower Greenville. It’s kind of grungy but I did’t go in with the anticipation of something too nice from the get go. They confirmed my suspicions from start to finish.

Venue looks a lot bigger in pictures, but I still had a pretty decent time when I went on Sunday evening. DJ and the food were good, bartenders were attentive. The covered patio is nice as well, just wish there were speakers out there so you can hear the music better.

Awesome vibe. Great music! My new favorite Dallas hang out! The ambiance is great and the drinks are reasonable.

Recently re-opened in November 2015, by the operator who originally established the venue ten years ago — Sunset Lounge is an upscale neighborhood dive, at the entrance to the downtown Arts District, serving a bistro style menu with Mediterranean influences. Every weekend, some of Dallas’s most well known DJs spin a progressive mix including house, disco, old-school, and Top-40.

This place is closed. I saw the last review in August here in Unilocalland, and nothing since, and after doing a little detective work, discovered they were now closed– no phone, website, open doors, or fish tacos, so sad.

Overall: Loved the place, the drinks, and the guacamole. Friendly staff and relatively easy parking. For drinks that are worth your money, we’ll definitely be back. Atmosphere: For a Friday, the crowd was light, which made seating easy. The staff was friendly, especially the manager/bartender/server. She was awesome. There was a private lot in the back, which made parking easy for the area too. Food: For happy hour food, the tacos were $ 3 and the rest of the appetizers were $ 5. We got the plantain chips, fish tacos, pork tacos, guacamole, and ceviche. We would probably pass on the fish tacos and ceviche next time, but the guacamole, plantain chips, and guacamole were great. The guacamole was chunky, yet creamy — just how we like it. For drink specials, all the cocktails minus the bowl were $ 5. Since it was our first time, we figured we had to try the Zombie, which is a mixture of a lot of stuff. It was some strong stuff, yet not too sweet. So thumbs up in our book! For our second drink we got the Caprinha, which was excellent as well. The manager also explained to us the origin of the drink and how they make it.

We stopped in for Happy Hour on Monday and much to our surprise it was Happy Hour all day! We loved meeting the bartender, Cindy, she was very knowledgable and helpful in picking a drink. She made a version of a Moscow Mule that had jalapeño in it and it was DELICIOUS! They were out of the plantain chips, so we tried the Cucumber/Jicama appetizer, but they were out of the cucumbers, so they put together a Pineapple & Jicama app with chili powder and seasoning and it was crazy good! They guacamole, pico de gallo, and chip were also good. We tried the chicken taco and pork taco. The pork was really tasty, but a bit greasy, so perfect bar food. :) My partner and friend said the chicken taco was good, just needed a boost of flavor. Overall, it is a great place and we will be back soon! Thank you Cindy for a great time!

Glad this spot is still around! Cool lounge type joint. Hot music. Strong drinks. Bring friends for a little after work fun. You can dance here and let loose to have a good time and no one will look at you funny. It has been a while but I have a feeling that I’m overdue here for a trip back.

Plantain chips, free with Unilocal check in, jus made my day. Served with bbq and ranch. … never thought of those sauces with plantain. but it works. Real laid back faux Caribbean vibe. Nice chill spot

Oh yes! This review is for the«lounge» portion, I’ll have to come back and try the food another day. I came here with friends for my birthday celebration and we had so much fun. The crowd was so diverse in every way and everyone seemed to really enjoy the night. The DJ played more of a mix of genres early in the night, then went more r&b/ hip hop later. There’s parking right behind the building with an additional lot on the other side of Ross. I’ll be back.

This is definitely one of the best value happy hours in Dallas. It applies to both drinks and food! Although the food is limited to tacos, chips, guac… etc they are all reasonably priced. Tuesdays are $ 2 tacos! While they are a tad more generous with the vegetables, there is still a good amount of meat in them. I’m a little suspicious about the ceviche though because it was overwhelmingly lime flavored(maybe to mask the freshness)? Approach with caution! I’ve also been here previous times during the«lounge» phase when the lights dim and a DJ is working his/her magic. Most of the time they are themed nights, for example, AZN nights. Some of them have been fun but it depends what crowd you’re into. The last visit left a bad taste in my mouth and I also wanted to take a shower right after out of disgust. Apparently we stayed too long after HH and it turned into a douchebag bar with flashing lights on a Tuesday night. Next time I go I’ll at least bring a body guard. It was scary having dudes flank your car while you’re inside it. 1. Go during happy hour!(4pm-7pm) 2. LEAVEAFTERHAPPYHOUR!

YES! FINALLYYES! I’ve found the place I want to spend EVERYMONDAY at!!! Why, you ask? well, it’s as simple as ALLDAYHAPPYHOUR on MONDAYs. Yes, you read that right, ALL F***INGDAY! Bloody Awesome!!! And that’s not some crappy happy hour where they take $ 1 off and call it a day… No sir/madam, this place gives you HALF-PRICEDDRINKS as well as $ 3 food(and if you’re a true Unilocaler, you’ll check in on Unilocal and get a free Appetizer while you’re at it! more reasons to be an awesome Unilocaler, just sayin’ :P). We got in and sat at the bar, where the fantastic bartender Leslie told us what the drinks were made of, chatted with us, and mixed all kinds of awesome cocktails. I started with the Tiki-tini, a coconut and pineapple rum with blue curacao that was delicious(and fyi a bit sweet) followed by the zombie, which is the nearest drink i’ve ever had to a long island ice tea, containing a knock-out mixture of 4 different liquors, with pineapple and cinammon syrup that wraps a beautiful taste and a STRONG kick(limit 2 per person, but one was good enough for me… i need to work on my tolerance). Meanwhile, my wife tried the summer sangria which was good but a bit too tart and lemony, and followed that with a glass of champagne and a chardonnay. To accompany our drinks, we got our free appetizer for which we chose the Gauc and chips, and the Guac was fantastic, a perfect, chunky blend of tomatoes, onions, lime and of course avocado, and it coupled perfectly with the chips which were just the right level of salty. We also tried the tacos which were mentioned in many other reviews, and rightly so, the fish tacos are the best I’ve had anywhere, and that includes my few forays into LA and San Diego! The fish tacos were phenomenal, and so were the chicken tinga taco, which had a delicious spicy aftertaste, and the roasted pork taco which was juicy and very tasty! So, there you have it, i’ve stated my case as to why this may be one of the best spots for your happy hour in Dallas. Still not convinced? Did you even read the WHOLEDAYHAPPYHOURONMONDAYS!!! This is my new favorite spot and I recommend you try it, and you’ll probably be sharing the seat next to me every monday!

I love the location and space. Have been meaning to pop in. Tried the happy hour because it was on a recent Eater«Best Of» list. Eater claimed Sunset Lounge offers weekday 4−7pm «$ 5 tiki-inspired drinks and $ 3 food.» Not exactly… Single tacos and a few other items are always $ 3. I had a fish taco that was very meh, esp. compared to the Frugal Foodie top tacos( ). There were no $ 5 tiki drinks, only $ 3 wells and beers. A good deal, but nothing special. Their in-house made chips and plantains were very good but ridiculously salty. My buddy and I had to brush salt off of each before eating(created parched, chapped lips, otherwise). I DO like this space a lot, though. Worth popping into again for Happy Hour when it’s not too crowded. The guacamole was acceptable and the homemade, fire roasted salsa was a winner. Chips + Salsa are $ 3(or sub plantains!). Guacamole is $ 4 at happy hour, instead of $ 6. Or you can get a tiny side of guac with your salsa, like I did, for $.50. 1 star for space + locale 1 star for laid back vibe 1 star for cheap HH wells –1 star for salt overload –1 star for general lack of FF food-type offerings (fresh nutrients and islay scotches ;))

This place has a fun little theme and great happy hour prices on drinks and food. I had the Caipirinha and guacamole(pretty awesome). Also I loved the music, which was mostly reggae. The service was okay — she brought me a drink I didn’t order another one of(I wanted to try something else) and I got overcharged for an appetizer that was supposed to be free so she ended up giving me cash back. The parking was iffy — the valet line has room for like two cars and you can’t sit in the street. Also we went for a work happy hour and it was loud so we couldn’t really talk that well.

Words can’t express how much I love Sunset Lounge. It may not look like the magical place it is from the outside but step inside and you won’t be disappointed! They have incredible drink and food specials, were talking $ 5 or under! Their fish tacos are some of my favorite in town and their ceviche is fab too… oh and the guacamole… and the plantain chips. Their menu may be small but don’t they say good things come in small packages? Any excuse I can make to visit Sunset Lounge, I do.

I was actually a little disappointed with the drink presentation since the whole point of these drinks is to be THEMED. I was really in the mood for a silly fruity drink with some fruit/little umbrella craziness, but my bahama mama came to me with a simple thin little black straw. Sadface. It was tasty but then I just switched to wine.(And yeah, I just couldn’t bring myself to be the asshole who’s all WHERE’S MYLITTLEUMBRELLA?!) On the flip side, the bartender was super attentive and seemed conscientious about doing a good job, so I think perhaps he was new.(Because the presentation was lacking on the drink, not because he was concerned about doing a good job! ;) I also got to try the plantain chips, which come with two yummy dipping sauces. Very solid munchies. I’d probably come here again if friends went, but there’s not really enough of a reason to venture here on my own again??? Maybe for happy hour… the Unilocal family seems to be mega fans of the happy hour!
