We were fortunate to hv experienced the epitome of a classic fine dining opulence here at The French Room on 10th June 2016, since they closed their doors forever after the 11th… Too bad, really since TFR has been a ‘fixture’ of Dallas for a long, long time. It’s a shame really… We chose TFR to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary & just had a grand ol’ time

My new favorite restaurant in Dallas. Good was impeccable. Each course better than the one before. The service was exceptional. Would not change a thing. 5 star all the way. See pics for what we ate. Duck and beef were best I’ve had anywhere. Just perfect. Worth a try and great for a celebration dinner or date night

So much fun! Make sure to go out and buy the fanciest outfit you’ve can find before going. Eating is an experience, put on your Sunday best and enjoy the ambiance of The French Room. Food was 5 Star quality and the service was personable and eager to make your experience memorable. Be sure to make a reservation a few weeks in advance.

Absolutely fantastic restaurant — definitely one of the best, if not the best in Dallas. I came here for an anniversary dinner and the wait staff was extremely attentive and even wrote«Happy Anniversary» on the plates of our dessert. I ordered the smoked salmon, beef tenderloin, and the chocolate soufflé. Smoked Salmon — normally I don’t like seafood, but this salmon tasted extremely fresh and the dish overall was very well seasoned. Every element of the dish was well prepared and plated beautifully. Beef tenderloin — Definitely the best part of the meal. It was the most tender beef that I’ve ever had. It just melts in your mouth. The sides were pretty standard but the star of the dish definitely shined. Chocolate soufflé — Very airy and fluffy. Can’t go wrong with chocolate. They give us a few extra small desserts at the end(like a macaron) while we were paying the bill and a carrot cake in a loaf tin to take home for breakfast the next day.

What a beautiful restaurant!!! It was a magical epicurean experience. One of my favorite restaurant experiences hands down. Everything from the tea they serve to palette cleansers in between courses, was served with so much attention to detail aesthetically!!! Please take someone you love here. You won’t regret it!

I had bookmarked this place before coming to Dallas and some friends already had reservations so they asked us to join. Very fancy dining. I would say this is a place for something very special or if you enjoy spending lots of money on food and wine. There were 5 of us and we had a 3 course meal and wine pairings for each course. The service was outstanding and the portions were more than I expected. We were the last ones there and we left when they turned the light out. We saw a proposal! «She said yes!»

If you are looking for a elegant yet sophisticated restaurant this is the place to be. Please chose to be sat with Connie. She is the main waitress and the other are beyond exceptional. My favorite main course meal was the lamb and the wine was amazing! If you really want to experience top quality mean and the ambiance this is the right place for you.

The service and food are absolutely amazing. When you go do the Chef’s tasting with wine. Each course comes with a different glass of wine. This is a place to experience food in a way that takes your mind to Paris. The atmosphere is personal and beautiful. The French room needs to be your next date night.

A great place, largely because they don’t let Yahoos like Joe L. in the door. YOUHAVETOWEAR A JACKETATTHERESTAURANT, BOZOJOE! THAT’S THERULE, ANDITAPPLIESTOEVERYONE! I will admit I am quite surprised that anyone can be so dense. Did they literally throw you out the door? I hope so.

I am still craving their luxurious food, atmosphere, and energy. It was excellent. Most romantic restaurant I have been to. I felt like I was falling in love all over again. Dining in Heaven with the cherubs painted to beautifully on the ceiling. Food and wine was spectacular. I will count down the days until I experience this place again.

I will admit I am quite surprised that a restaurant like this would be my first bad review. I normally do not review if I’ve only been there once let alone if I haven’t tasted the food. I came here on my 7th year anniversary with my girlfriend. I was dressed in black pants, dress shoes, and a long sleeve Cucinelli. However, they decided that I wasn’t dressed up to their standards. I was asked to wear an overly tight jacket if I wanted entry into the restaurant. HOWPRETENTIOUSCANYOUBE? I’ve been to several of the finest restaurants around the world including 2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants and this is the first I have ever been rejected. I understand throwing me out the door had I been wearing shorts, a T-shirt, or sandals but seriously? Maybe that’s the reason why your restaurant is empty at 7pm on a Wednesday night. I would think that restaurants of this caliber would be more respectful towards potential customers but I guess I would be wrong. Too arrogant for me? No problem. Instead I decided to drop $ 600 at Uchi. Works for me their service was A+. Good luck trying to get a Michelin Star but I’m pretty sure you’d go bankrupt before that ever happens. A little respect goes a long way.

An elegant french restaurant in the heart of BBQ territory? Oh yes. I really enjoyed my experience at The French Room and would highly recommend it to anyone in the Dallas area. Service during dinner was extraordinary from every individual with whom I interacted. After being seated at a very nice table with a great view of the dining area, the sommelier stopped by to assist in adult beverage choices. His recommendations for pairing with my meal choices were completely on point and the wines were divine. I opted for the Chef’s Tasting menu during this trip and was pleasantly rewarded. The amuse bouche was shrimp in a red curry and mushroom sauce– Yum! The remaining delicious and filling courses included: 1. Cream of black mussel soup with diver scallops and parmesan crostini 2. Sweetbread schnitzel with while mushroom risotto, capers, and brown butter 3. Pecan sorbet as the intermezzo 4. Veal loin with crispy oysters, horseradish-whipped potato, and a shallot cabernet sauce 5. Boucheron cheese with bacon 6. Grand Marnier soufflé 7. Complimentary sweet bites of chocolate and a macaron 8. Surprise gift of a baked bread to take home(I think it was zucchini nut) Just writing all of that makes me think back to how good that food was and how much I want to get it again! The French Room seemed to get every detail right(even simple things like helping me put on my coat) and I love that in a restaurant. I don’t know when I’ll be able to visit Dallas again but visiting The French Room will be an absolute must every time I do.

We decided to splurge a little and treat ourselves since it’s the holiday season and it was absolutely superb! The whole dining experience was one of THEBEST and I expected nothing less from The French Room. Loved the classic and elegant interior with the gorgeous chandelier and ceiling! Honestly, I felt like the price wasn’t as pricy as I thought it would be for the food and the service you get from here. A restaurant like this in New York or California would be a good minimum of $ 150+ per person! But the three course meal was only $ 80 per person and it was well worth it! Let me start by saying every single bite was so delightful and delicious. The presentation of each plate was delicate and exquisite! They brought little«extras», complements of the chef, in between courses which I thought was a nice surprise. I can go into detail about each dish, but everything was so good, I would have to write an essay, hahaha. My favorite though was the Maple Leaf Farm’s Duck Breast. It had so many different components but it all blended so well together with every bite. The duck was perfectly flavored with a nice crunch on the outside and the confit croquette and foie gras was a delectable accompaniment. Our server did say that the duck breast will be the best I’ve ever had and will have until my next visit to the French Room and he was 100% correct! So good! I didn’t think duck could taste like that. The dessert was very good as well but I was already pretty full so I didn’t get to enjoy the dessert as much. But they also gave us a complimentary plate of macaron and chocolates as well as a cake to take home for the next day! The service was truly spectacular! They were quick, attentive and very friendly. We really enjoyed every minute of our dining experience. No wonder The French Room is ranked as the number one restaurant in Dallas. If money isn’t an issue, this restaurant is a MUST! They have a strict dress code and they emphasize on it. If you make reservations, they will kindly let you know in advance of the dress code. I actually like the dress code because everyone looks nice and fancy, it’s all part of the fine dining experience. The French Room is a charming and captivating restaurant, 5 stars all around!

Sigh. I didn’t think The French Room would end up being my first 1-star review, especially with all the other glowing reviews on Unilocal.Food was a solid B+, service was a very solid F. For most restaurants I wouldn’t consider service so highly, but what The French Room boasts about itself, it certainly did not deliver. First things first, I have to put our waiter Carlos on the hot seat. He did many things tonight that made this evening awful, including: touching our food, screwing up our orders, and being overall inattentive to our tables. But what I was most offended by was a racist comment that I’d never had the discomfort to answer: «Where are you from?» «Oh, Dallas.» «No, I mean, where are you REALLY from?» …seriously? SERIOUSLY? I embrace my Taiwanese heritage but to be questioned like that was simply impolite. The main qualifying statement I can make in defense for The French Room is that I came with a party of fourteen — it was a big group prone to noisiness. I think all Asians can understand me when I refer to the«Auntie Squad» — that group of moms who love to take beautified selfies to post on social media — but who doesn’t like to take photos? I was accompanying my lovely mother; we were out celebrating all the October birthdays and just wanted to have a pleasant dinner. Things started out well but went downhill quickly after the main course. Moving away from Carlos, the crab cakes are bomb. Came with separate tomato and mango purees, a fried slice of lotus root, and a delicious lobster-lemongrass(I think that was what it was) sauce. The different elements worked together well, although the mango seemed a little too sweet for the sweetness of the crab — just a tad overwhelming. For intermezzo, we had a delicious passion fruit sorbet to cleanse the palate. No qualms here: I do enjoy myself a refreshing mini-dessert in the middle of my formal meal. For main course I got the lamb, which was a little too cooked for the medium rare I asked for, but still tasty. The mint garlic sauce ladled over the meat was alright initially, but quickly became too sweet, which resulted in the dish being heavier than it already was(a small side of bleu cheese creamed corn came in a cute cup with the plate). Our meal deteriorated into chaos after the entrée. Our party of 14 was split into 2 tables of seven. The other table got served dessert first, which is fine. Even a five minute difference would have been acceptable. Perhaps even ten. But we waited a solid thirty minutes to be served our half of the desserts. When they finally came, the staff was flustered and confused as to which dessert went to who, as well as who the birthday girls were. The other table was practically done with their last course by the time we just got ours, with no apologies or explanations. At this point in time Carlos was quite busy and, upon being asked for coffee with dessert, brusquely took our requests. He began this habit of starting his sentences with«Wait wait wait, hold on,» as if our English wasn’t good enough and needed to be slowed down to be processed. The taste of dessert itself was good. Souffles were sufficiently fluffy, and I asked for the vanilla ice cream on my Hazelnut Bavarian to be traded out for the molasses ginger from another dessert. Best decision I made all nice, because that ginger ice cream was bomb-diggity! You’d think that by this time the bad service experience would have ended. If that were the case, The French Room would have gotten 2 stars from me. But of course, Carlos had to take 6 cards to split a 7-person total, and then return our cards to us… With all the incorrect receipts attached. It was an awful minute of «find the right receipt» swapping among us, made more difficult by the dim lighting in the restaurant. After we finally got everything verified and signed, Carlos rudely asked(borderline demanded) that he needed to get six copies of receipts back before we could leave. So much for high-end restaurant. 1 star for your awful attitude that made me more than disappointed and even offended. Left a taste in my mouth far worse than all your creations I tried tonight.

WHEREISTHEBUTTONFORSIXSTARS!!! Honestly, I have been hearing hype about this place for so long that quite frankly, I was prepared to be disappointed. We went for a belated anniversary dinner, and simply ended up with one of the best meals of our lives. We did the four course tasting menu with wine pairings. The food progression was impeccable, and the sommelier not only nailed it, but was absolutely charming. I don’t eat veal, and the chef was more than happy to substitute a gorgeous sous vide filet mignon instead. Be ready to put your fancy clothes on!

Took my boyfriend there for his birthday. I was told they had a dress code and a jacket was required for gentlemen. We showed up in $ 400 jeans with a button down shirt and a nice blazer. We were turned away because we were in jeans.(We were never told about no jeans– just the«jacket.») That’s fine. I’ve eaten at some of the best restaurants in Europe, Australia, Central America, the United States and Asia. I don’t have to play dress up to appease your undeserved pretention. We went a block away and spent $ 1,000 on amazing caviar, spectacular wine and a delicious(yet less pretentious) meal. Your model is stale and unsustainable. As a public relations and media consultant in the food industry, here’s my free advice: Be reasonable, and get over yourself.

You have to realize what kind of place you’re going to. The French Room is everything you’d expect from a pretentious place where the average patron is 60+. We were seated next to a family with the husband being around 25 years older than his wife, both were eating black caviar and drinking champagne. That sums up the kind of atmosphere and people you get there. The food: 4⁄5. First, we got a complementary bite-size app which was a piece of lobster in some kind of cream, I can’t say I enjoyed it. My first course was the crab cake, which was rather on the bland side. The sauce that came with it was nice and light, but the crab cake itself wasn’t as flaky I’m used to. I ordered sole for my main and it was excellent, it was cooked to perfection and came with a nice light side of crab meat with some vegetables. Chocolate torte was my dessert, which was very nice, although a little too rich. It also came with edible gold foil, which I find a little ridiculous, particularly after the waitress put a lot of emphasis on it. Then we got a complementary plate of chocolate, which was also excellent, and a banana cake to take home, which was mediocre, sadly. The service: 5⁄5. The service was impeccable with perfectly timed courses. Overall: All in all, great food and excellent service. However, the atmosphere and the crowd were too stuffy for me to come back. Perhaps, I can revisit in 40 years, or when I start taking myself too seriously.

This is not a typical restaurant for my wife and myself. We were with a group of friends and we were staying at the Adolphus Hotel. I have to say it exceeded my expectations. First, the room is spectacular. The murals on the ceiling and walls are beautiful. The service is impeccable but not overbearing. We were able to carry on conversations without interruption while the wait staff performed perfectly for our table of six. Each of us had a different entrée and we were all very pleased. I tried the duck because I figured it would be well prepared here. An excellent choice! The waiter suggested it be prepared to a medium temperature and he was spot on! I loved it. Everything was wonderful and I would put this on our places of VERY special occasions with good friends. Certainly not an everyday choice for us, but I cannot wait to share it with other friends very soon!

Pat Baby surprised me and took me here again after a few years and it is still the hands down best fine dining experience I have had in Dallas! We even got to sit at our old table in the back corner, they are just so accommodating I love it! Once your enter the glorious French inspired room, every member of the staff is there to make sure you have a great dining experience. From the moment you greet the host to the moment you walk out everyone is as friendly as can be. What surprised me the most was that our waitress(Connie I believe) remembered us from our first visit. I know she has waited on so many people since then and for her to remember us was just fantastic. She took great care of us the whole night, even when we were the last people there, she is amazing! The sommelier was so informative and amiable. I don’t know much about wine so usually I’m afraid to ask any questions in fear of being judged, but he was so kind and passionate about what he does. In an environment you think would be so pretentious, he and the rest of the staff are so down to earth it’s unbelievable. So if you come in thinking you have to be proper and are afraid of being like Mr. Bean in France, ease up, it is no big deal here as long as you dress appropriately and are respective of others around you! As for the food, it was delicious, and I mean almost crippling to your knees. The scallops seriously melted in your mouth. The lobster had the perfect texture, it was not rubbery at all! The steak medium-rare was, I can’t even begin to describe it, luscious! I did the chef’s tasting menu, 5 courses, with wine pairings and even though I don’t drink a lot of red wine, the pairing with the food was absolutely perfect. One appetizer was duck pot stickers, which I usually wouldn’t equate to fine dining, but the skin of it was perfectly cooked. A lot of places, the top part that closes them is harder than the rest of it, but I felt it was all around excellently steamed. Compliments to the chef! The soufflé of course is still the best I’ve had in Dallas. Pat Baby didn’t get the Grand Marnier this time, we got white chocolate instead and it was amazing! Also of course at the end of the night we got bags of loaves to go and a dish of little chocolates and a macaron. It was a great top off to an incredible and romantic night. I am so thankful for every member of the French Room staff because their hard work made our experience there even better than last time!
