I’ve been seeing Johnny since 2013. I had always wanted to learn the drums and it’s a great hobby and fun stress outlet for someone working a desk job like me. I always had feared getting lessons because I’m not much of a quick learner, but johnny has been great and I always have a blast. Young or old, hit up johnny!

I’ve wanted to learn to play drums forever and luckily I found Top Shelf Drum Studio. Johnny is an incredible drummer, super professional and very patient. Johnny has been coming to our house to teach my son (12 years old) drums for 3 years or more now. He is an amazing drummer himself, and he has tapped into my son’s natural talent. Johnny is always happy and positive, even when my son is in a bad mood — Johnny still finds a way to make the lesson fun. My son loves drumming so much, and now has a wonderful love of music. I can’t say enough good things about Johnny, and my son looks forward to seeing Johnny every week. He is excellent with kids, and his method of teaching seems to resonate with how kids learn. I’ve always wanted to play drums and was always something on my bucket list. As a kid, I played violin and never got to experience drums till recently. I found Johnny and honestly wasn’t sure at first! He was really fun but I was use to a strict classic type training in the past. I actually left and found another teacher for a while that was taught very traditionally. That only lasted a month or two because I realize, the fun part of music is to be able to play and to play along with songs you love. I didn’t want to do exercises and learn to read more music, as I already know how.
So, I came back to Johnny and been extremely happy. He makes the lessons fun and still productive. Learning music should be fun and Johnny knows exactly how to blend a fun lesson with techniques. You get to learn current songs but those songs contain techniques. So before you know it, you develop skills while having fun. He always lets you chose songs that you love. I always seem to pick the hardest ones but Johnny is patient and goes through it.
He is a wonderful music talent, a great teacher and a great guy. I always enjoy my lessons with Johnny!

Johnny is an excellent teacher. He’s very committed, focused and it’s clear he loves what he does. He is very knowledgeable about drumming and takes the time to make sure you understand what it is you’re learning. Definitely recommend :)
