Im at a loss here. Everyone claims this is the best torta spot in Dallas, yet what I had was mediocre at best. I was already hesitant to come here, since I tried the Farmers Branch location(an odd yet disappointing experience). But based on several recommendations for this location, I figured I would be a good sport and try. I tried my best to like it, but the cook clearly didnt try his best at making it. The bread was better than the Farmers Branch location, but it was still too chewy and hard for my taste. The bread wasn’t toasted, buttered, seasoned, or heated. The vegetables were fresh(especially the avocados) but the meat was quite disappointing. I had a few moments of flavor, but overall it was lukewarm and lacked character(I think I primarily tasted pepper?). This was one of the few times in my life where I didnt even eat the rest of the bread. Some of the filling was shifting away, and I didnt feel motivated to finish the remaining bread. Overall, I couldn’t recommend this place. I will not give it two stars because the torta was decent(and I know they have good flauntas).

Great small restaurant with fast and friendly service and one of the best steak quesadillas I have ever had. For real.

I have definitely had better. The Tortas are decent, but the the rest of the food is meh. I would rather go to a small stand and take it home. It was a little pricey considering they charge you for almost everything. Go somewhere else.

If you like tortas you need to try these. I always get the milanesa(breaded steak) one, it’s A-mazing. Chicken flautas are good too. I think their secret is the bread, yum! I’d call ahead if you’re going on a Sunday afternoon to check if they haven’t run out of bread.

This is my favorite Torta spot! They have great tasting bread and tasty meats. I order the chicken pesto, beef fajita or egg chorizo tortas. They have regular size and a small size. The Chile powder on their fries makes them unique and yummy! I love their quesadillas with Mexican cheese & The Charro Beans are the best in oak cliff!

One word to sum up my experience«very disappointed«that’s right two words, I’ll disappoint you like they did me. I purchased a steak fajita, which stock comes with just onions and bell peppers, I added lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado, it came out too 12 bucks. The torta itself was small, I’ve paid 6 bucks for twice as much and way better, I got a «large». There wasn’t much flavor either, I ended up having to smother it in salsa. The meat was chewy and barely enough, the only thing I liked was the bread. I stopped by because it had good reviews, must’ve been the employees writing them. How do you mess up a torta!

I’ve been searching all over Oak Cliff for the perfect torta and by golly I’ve found it! The milanesa isn’t tough and they have the for thought to cut it up before putting it on the bread. The bolip bread is toasted to perfection. The red salsa is so delicious and the charro beans reminded me of home. I highly recommend this spot. Customer service: it was fast, friendly. If you don’t speak Spanish just point, to what you’d like.

Great sandwich place! I’ve had the milanesa and the especial. Both awesome sandwiches… and the hot sauce that’s on every table. man that really brings the sandwiches to the next level. You owe it to yourself to try this place. The manager was super nice by the way. He explained the ordering system and helped me out the first time I was there.

There bread and meat is delicious! I always get the Lomo torta, really recommend it. Their flautas are delicious too. The cheese i sooo good. It’s not«authentic» Mexican tortas, but they are delicious and cheap tortas, not greasy at all. It is definetly a place worth eating.

I’ve been here about 3 times in a row. This place beats making tortas at home. I love their tortas! And their flautas too. The last time I went I couldn’t believe my eyes. I witnessed a man eat 4 large orders of tortas! If that doesn’t prove how good they are then I don’t know what will. Also, service is great. Enjoy future torta addicts.

I am doubting the authenticity of the 5 star reviews, this place plain sucks. The tortas came like this: bread meat and bread, no beans, cream, the dried up lettuce was on the side with 2 slices of avocado. Seriously? That makes it an outstanding torta? One of the girls at the register had a nasty attitude because I asked her a questions. Needless to say we got chorro, and will not be going back.

First off, I LOVE Tortas. My photo is the 4th photo(Torta de Lomo). Where I come from Tortas are slathered with either pinto beans or black beans and either have cheddar or good melting white cheese(s). These Tortas had neither, we tried the Lomo and the fajita. Both were dry, meats were«fatty» and the bolillio crust was so hard that it left the roof of our mouths kinda cut up like Cap’n Crunch cereal does. Go over to Tortas de Coyoacan off Illinois @ Cockerill Hill and get the meatless aquacate torta. Its in a gas station but great.

I’m a huge fan of tortas, but after reading all the rave reviews, I was disappointed with Tortas Las Tortugas. The bread(which everyone raves about) was not soft enough… too chewy/too hard. The milanesa steak was also chewy. I like my tortas to be soft so that I can focus on the delicious flavors, but instead I was distracted by trying to chew enough to gulp down a bite. Granted, once I got the torta, I spent about 15 min. driving before I took a bite, but the bread shouldn’t harden up that much in 15 min., right? The pineapple agua fresca was amazing though. And the inside of the restaurant was surprisingly nice and clean even though the outside looks like a straight dive. Maybe I had a bad experience that’s not typical?

tortas still tasting great and ingredients still fresh. they actually increased the size of their tortas due to popular demand(as nicely stated as soon as you walk in). with the increase in size of their bombass bollio the tortas are a bit more expensive, nothing too crazy, but not $ 3 like i said on my original review. sauces are great and place is just all around kick ass. biz seems to be hopping – i was there on sunday and the place was PACKED. cheers!

The tortas here are about the best I have ever had! Not too big, not too small — just right. An excellent selection of condiments is available. I have had both the Especial and the Milanesa and they were both outstanding! It is worth noting that this is also one of the most spotlessly clean restaurants I have been in anywhere. My wife and I have been here twice in the past week and will probably go again before this week is out. If you are hungry for something delicious, you won’t be disappointed. The two brothers who run it are also extremely nice. I hope that this place is around for a long time and judging by the steady business they seem to do I think they will be!

If you’re an obnoxious ass that doesn’t know how to behave in neighborhoods of different cultures, stay away from this place. I don’t want you ruining it for the rest of us. Tortas Las Tortugas has become my newest food addiction. The Torta Especial has the Milanesa steak(lightly breaded thin slice of steak) WITH roasted pork loin WITH grilled ham, topped with cheese, tomato, lettuce, jalapenos, and a slice of avocado, all on a freshly made bun. This sandwich is meat-crack. I’m not kidding. I’ve been twice in 7 days. They have all sorts of aguas frescas, Mexican Coke(that’s real sugar y’all), and kick ass horchatas. The tres leches cake is great. And the menu has a ton of things that I’m sure I’ll try once I’ve eaten 20 or 30 more Especials. The staff is very friendly, and if your Spanish isn’t good, never fear. They are prepared for us gringos who want fantastic tortas. Order first, they’ll bring everything out, then pay back at the register when you’re done.

The ingredients at this restaurant are entirely top quality and freshly prepared. You can get a sense of the care that goes into the experience when you speak with the owner(who speaks fluent English) and he tells you about his family’s tradition as bread bakers as he walks you through the most popular offerings and optional toppings you may want to add on. Of note, unlike other Mexican torta shacks, this restaurant does not cram rice and beans into your sandwich. The tortas we tried included the chorizo, a dry-ish chile-laced mound of meat on a gorgeous fresh bolillo bun. Adding avocado was just the right touch to lend balance to the ‘which. We also tried the pork loin torta with everything. Make sure you ask for the chile sauce – it makes this baby hummmmm. The pork slices are tender and juicy with a nice spicy crust on the exterior. BTW, the bun, the superstar of the sandwich, is crusty on the outside and tender with just the right density on the interior. Aguas frescas are wonderful meal additions, including the choice of pineapple or lemonade on my visit. Even though the interior is nothing to look at, it’s clean and friendly with lots of space for groups – a great lunch spot for lunching even at odd afternoon hours. Yes, they even take credit cards.
