The food is good, my friends like to come here for their pupusas. I ordered a steak and prawn burrito which wasn’t bad only if the lady got my order right. I ordered to go and when I was ready to eat my burrito no prawns was inside also the salasa was super spicy and not fresh.

I had pupusas here and they were delicious. I also judge a place by their curtido for pupusas and their salsa for chips, both were good. I had a pork and cheese also a cheese and loroco. Nothing bad to say about my experience, 2 pupusas filled me up plus chips and salsa. The price was reasonable for the size.

If I could I would give the food alone a 4 or higher but unfortunately the filth in this place overshadows how great the food was. Pretty much all the tables were covered in crumbs and spills. Asked for a water only to find floating particles in it. The service is mediocre and our waitress wasn’t very nice or polite. Would consider eating their food in the future only if it was to go.

By far the filthiest restaurant I have ever ate at. The have music playing so loud that you can’t hear yourself think. The waitresses where the rudest I have ever encountered ever!!! They don’t take debit/credit. Save your money and go elsewhere!

Environment-eh Food-Pretty Good Service– I’ve had a bad experience. My order was messed up after having repeating it three times. I had asked for a burrito with no beans, meat, rice, avocado, sour cream, and nothing else. I got a burrito with beans meat rice avocado and no sour cream. I really didn’t want beans and I was pretty upset. My friend has also had bad experiences with orders and bad service. The restaurant has good food though.

It pains me to have to write this review about Café Durango. I’ve been a loyal fan for more than 7+ years, mostly because I live very close. But over the years, the quality of the food has dwindled. What makes it worse is the HORRIBLEHORRIBLEHORRIBLEHORRRRRIBLE customer service. My last experience, I called and ordered a super burrito(carne asada) to go. The waitress that answered was pretty nice, and told me it would take about 10 minutes until ready for pick up. Got there 10+ minutes later, and it took that same waitress 5 minutes to even acknowledge that I had walked in. Even then I had to say hello to HER first, before she said hello back, ASSHERUDELYWALKEDAWAY in the process. She finally came up to me, asked me what I wanted to order and I said, «I ordered a super burrito over the phone», «okay, chicken or beef», as she rudely cut me off. I had to explain and use my hand gestured into a phone for her to understand. Got home, cut my burrito in half to share with moms, and what did we find? Burnt carne asada, burnt tortilla and hardly any crema fresca(or whatever that’s called). It seemed as if the carne asada really had just been sitting on the grill for two days and then they figured ahh ill just throw this into this random to-go burrito. Needless to say, I’d rather drive 10+ minutes to a better burrito spot in the Mission. You will no longer be receiving my patronage, sorry not sorry Café Durango.

Forgot the chef’s name, sorry Chef. But You are good at what you do. Thanks.(OK, Unilocal says my review was short. Hmmm, ok. This place is not the brightest place with all color blinging lights, but the stuff very friendly, the food is excellent. Hope this is long enough now, Unilocal.)

As my first review, I’d like to introduce you all to my preferred Taqueria(or burrito joint, if it makes it easier). This particular place is a landmark in my experience. Located directly on Top of Hill, Daly City, it falls between a barber shop and a hair salon. At first glance, you’d think it’s a hole in the wall place. And in making that assumption, you’d be correct. You walk in, and the dining area is in the back, with diner seating in the front. The establishment is adorned with Mexican and Salvadorian décor, and it’s usual locals are in their usual diner stools. The owner, while stoic in his demeanor, is a friendly fellow who always can remember a returning customer. He is well respected in the community. As for the food, there is a large selection of Mexican and Salvadorian delicacies that are difficult to imitate in other restaurants in the area. The cook is almost always the owner himself, and does works hard give some quality meals. Though I haven’t had the full menu, the Super Burrito is amazing! I could die happy from eating this for a week, unless the clogged arteries get to me first. The pupusas, while more on the greasy side, makes up for it in content.

OMFG!!! That is the only thing that comes to mind, what a disappointment the service of this place has become. I will have to retract my previous rating from this place because my last experience SUCKED! I was having a B-day party at home for my boys and decided to have pupusas for people to snack on. I placed an order of 50(yes tall order, lots of people were hungry) as well as 6 fried yucca root. I asked the waitress over the phone how long would it take as well as how much would it be since they only take cash. I was told that it would take 50 minutes which I did not mind since it was a large order. I was told it would be a total of $ 60.00(I thought it was incorrect so I brought $ 100.00 just in case). When I got to the place, I had to wait for an additional 45 minutes(I was annoyed but decided to let it slide since I like this place allot). While I was waiting, I saw how the waitress SUCKED at her job and did not know how to treat the patrons of the restaurant. Patrons waiting at the register trying to pay and leave, wrong orders filled(a take out lady showed up to find her order was not written down into a ticket for the cook to make). I was appalled by the disarray and lack of professionalism by this individual. Finally, when my order showed up to the counter it did not include the fried yucca root. I was like WTF lady, don’t you know how to do your fucking job? Long story short the entire wait time was over an hour and a half(almost two hours) and the cherry on top was that I did not have enough money on me because, the stupid bitch forgot to charge for the yucca. I had to then go back to the bank to get the extra cash(She even had the audacity to tell me there was an ATM inside a next door tacky bar to get the money from). Luckily, the food was still good, hence the two stars. Nevertheless, this place lost me as a customer and really wonder why would people would want to go back to this place to be treated like shit. In Closing, to my fellow Unilocalers, be forth warned that this place has shitty service and in my opinion the quality of food does not make up for it. YOUHAVEBEENWARNED!!!

Food was mediocre. The Carne Asada is dry, no flavor. And their salsa is lame, no flavor, just tastes like spicy tomato sauce.

The pupusas here used to be the best in town two years ago. Now there is a newer chef who is not as nice as the former. I’m a gringo married to a Salvadoran so I’ve been learning Spanish for a while. When I walked in I said«Hola, ¿cómo esta?». And he stared at me and said«I’m fine». Not trying to be patronizing dude. Oh and they don’t have casamiento(for shame!). Plus one star for the ultra spicy salsa!

I have been coming here for over 15 years… hands down my go to spot for pupusas! I have tried other spots but when i want the best i come here… hole in wall place, the cook has been there since i was a teenager, and its always full of regulars. I always order pupusas to go and even bring along friends to try this place out… I tried a few other plates there but i just stick to what i love… the prices are good and the food is amazing… granted the wait might be a bit long for the order but i’m okay with it because i know the lady making them in the back is making it with love! Def going to keep going there and bringing friends as long as they remain open…

I really wanted to love this place because my fellow Unilocalers said it was pretty good. I thought it was just ok. Decent menu with lots of different items to suit any mood I am in: pancakes, crinkle fries, nachos, burritos, breakfast; they have everything. I wasn’t particularly wowed by the papusas. The flavor was quite bland and they are incredibly heavy. One papusa was enough for me. I got really full, really quickly because their food is so heavy. The staff is incredibly nice. We walked in and they allowed us to sit inside with our dog. I am super grateful for that. Right away we were served chips with salsa and coleslaw. The salsa was really fresh but the chips were from a bag which was really disappointing. The beans were ok. Nothing special. She melted the cheese in the microwave which was a turn off. I haven’t had Horchata in years so I decided to go all out and get some Horchata. It was good but the idea that it’s basically sugar water, really grosses me out. Especially when the batch they make just sits in the fridge. Prices are reasonable enough for what you get. I was happy to try it once but I don’t see myself going out of my way for this place. One of the only things I like about this place is that it is right down the street from our new house so in a pinch, when I am craving Mexican food(or pancakes. or crinkle fries) I can just walk down the block.

Went here after seeing it on Chef’s Feed. Maybe it was just an off night, but there were four of us and two of us got our food a solid HOUR before the other two, and when the pupusas came an hour later they weren’t even the ones we ordered. This was particularly a bummer because at this point my friend was starving, and it just seemed like a cruel joke when she(a vegetarian) bit into a meat filled pupusa. Not to mention the side of avocado we ordered that just plain never came. What we did eat was decent, but the process of getting it was so excruciating that I definitely don’t plan on going back.

LOVE this place! I live a few blocks away and find their dishes to be tasty. I always order the shrimp super burrito(MMMMM!) But I have tried their tacos, dinner plates, and breakfast items and they are pretty good. It might not be in the best of areas, but there are various bus lines that stop in front and is right around the corner from Westlake and SF State… so don’t let 2 feet of space fool you and Chipotle can go kick rocks. I highly recommend this place! The only set backs on this place are: cash only and they are closed on Mondays(I have had many upset Mondays lol).

A friend wanted to go out and grab pupusas. I don’t have pupusas often so I jumped at the opportunity. Café Durango isn’t TOO bad to get to. A few blocks away from the Daly City Bart station. The place itself is a little shabby but the menu is pretty big and the workers are nice. We were given chips and salsa while we waited for our food. Chips are standard. Salsa is fresh and really spicy. I liked it but I added salt every time I had a bite. I ordered a revuelta(sp? mixed cheese, pork, beans, loroco) and a queso/loroco pupusa with a glass of jamaica. Total came out to be $ 9ish. CASHONLY. The revuelta was super good for $ 3. I gobbled that right up and it filled me up pretty good. I gave the queso/loroco one to my friend the next day. It wasn’t quite as juicy as it would have been if it were fresh but it was still good. The jamaica was good. It’s watered down but I kind of liked it that way. It was less tart which is something that tends to make me feel thirstier. It’s expensive though. $ 2 something and I’m not sure there are refills for it. Overall good experience.

I really recommend this little restaurant to anyone. I’m a regular client so I always sit at the bar and talk to the owner who is the chef. Hands down to homemade food and to a great cook. I recommend their specialties which are tacos al pastor or tacos de barbacoa and of course PUPUSAS. Their pupusas are so yummy and delicious. They also have good caldo de camaron and Menudo. This is a casual-friendly atmosphere, families and couples dining together. You can also drink a chela(beer) at the bar and watch a Mexican soccer game. This is not a typical Mexican restaurant so don’t expect it to be fancy or anything. If your an uptight or picky person, this is not for you. Open-minded people who like a cheap & great grub, this is the place. P. S. Also, for those people that are impatient, pupusas are handmade here and it does take a while to warm them up. If you go to café durango, sit in the back and you’ll hear the lady patting your pupusa as she makes your food freshly.
