Time to eat… where should I go… MEKENI it is! In having just gotten off of work I was hungry and looking for some BBQ. I knew that Mekeni was a spot that I heard about that had some good BBQ so I made my way to the top of the hill in Daly City. While I was expecting parking to be a nuisance it was rather easy. I found a nice side street to park and walked on over. I almost missed this place because of the business right next door to it. The doors looked like they are apart of one business but the doors are separate from one another. As you walk into the restaurant you see that this place goes straight back. There are a few tables, TV, and the kitchen which is in the far back. As you walk you to the register you can see the menu above the register on the wall. The food is all placed in the stainless steel food pans which helps ordering here helpful if you are unfamiliar with the food options. Luckily, I knew what I wanted. I also saw that the have breakfast here as well which is good to know for the future. I saw that they had Mackerel for serving but I just did not have time to enjoy such a meal today. I went with the BBQ, bistek, and adobo. The pricing of this meal was sweet. Got all of this for under $ 12.00 which caused me to celebrate just a bit. The service was good. There were only 5 people here eating and watching SHOWTIME on TFC, classic! Nice people and decently clean, much to my liking. After receiving my food I was on my way. I had a few more stops along the way but when I finally got to the food I was ready. The food was GREAT. I immediately saw that the portion sizes here are NICE! I appreciate the size of the rice portions as well as those for the bistek and the adobo, THANKYOUMUCH! The BISTEK was good but even better when I added some the sauce from the adobo, WINNING! The adobo was just as good. Good chunks of chicken with rice, CLASSIC! Lastly, the BBQ was perfect! I only got one piece of BBQ in order to assess the quality of the BBQ, it PASSED with flying colors! Good food here. Quality and quantity is the combination you can expect here! I will be back for more… to be continued… #stilllickingmychops

Gotta try the sisig, its not the usual sisig you get from other places. Their sisig is crispy sisig, flavorful and tasty.

Food is ok. Everything is pretty much pre-cooked, put on display buffet style, then re heated. The full menu isn’t always available, and run out by lunch time of some of the popular items. Lady there is very nice.

Food was great and service was fast. We came around 6:30pm. They are friendly and serve really good hamonado and lumpia. Pretty cheap compared to competitors. We will definitely come back.

The food here is hit or miss. This is my go-to place for silogs because they’re open early. Most Filipino places don’t open until 11am and sometimes I need breakfast way before then. It’s not the best but it cost less than $ 6 and it’s decent. By the way, they no longer host karaōke.

I never would’ve guessed that this is a karaōke bar… but I can say that they have good filipino bbq! The look of the restaurant itself isn’t that appealing and the décor seems a bit outdated, but you can always just order the food to-go if you don’t want to sit down and eat there. At the counter, there are a few options for hot food such as bistek, dinuguan, and fried fish. Sadly, no sisig when we went, but they made up for it with extra garlic rice to accompany the tosilog and bansilog.

I didn’t know this is also a karaōke bar. It sure doesn’t seem like it. At least there’s definitely no «bar». Anyway, I’ve experienced this place a few times thanks to a co-worker who likes coming here sometimes. We came again yesterday for lunch. It’s a typical Filipino hot food counter place. From my recollection, there’s around 12 items to choose from. I liked their onion beef(bistek). Too bad they didn’t have sinigang. Besides that, one of my favorite Filipino food item is the squid(or adobo squid, as my co-worker tells me it’s called). Too bad I’ve never seen it served there so far on my few visits. We did see it at a place just down half block on Mission Street that we curiously checked out afterwards. That place will likely be our next local Filipino lunch visit.

One Item with Rice for $ 4 I went here for dinner since my Dad and I were hungry to eat something within the budget and plus I didn’t want to drive out somewhere. So we walked up to Mekeni Restaurant for my Dad to try out what they have. Honestly, nothing looked appealing for me to eat so the best choice for me was the Nilaga. My dad ordered the same thing. I was surprised they gave a larger portion of Nilaga compared to the Pampanga’s Cuisine on San Pedro Road. Mekeni is also Kapampangan owned too(hint the restaurant name for those who don’t know). I was at least impressed with that and it is cheaper by 50 cents compared to Pampanga’s Cuisine. I also ordered Turo that is 3 for $ 2 since that’s one of my favorite Filipino sweets! The taste of the Nilaga was okay and I was wondering why our meet was so red? Was it even cooked all the way? Makes me wonder. The look of the place is so random! There’s a Hello Kitty Happy Birthday sign on the wall and random posts on the wall. The interior is okay but it could look better with style. I still think this place deserves a 3 star because the lady that served us Perla was really sweet. She was polite and respectful in serving us. Thanks Ate Perla! =)

Came here for lunch on a Tuesday after I discovered that Little Yangoon across the street was closed. I got excited to eat some filipino food. I took a to go menu, and my experience here has made me believe that everything is falsely advertised. They claim that«sizzling sisig and fresh grilled bbq is our specialty Lutong Kapampangan», but why is it that when I come here, they don’t even have sisig? They didn’t even had pancit either. I was really disappointed with the selection they had. There was only about 8 items out that we could choose from. The bbq chicken/pork is also not very fresh, I didn’t see them bbq-ing, it was just sitting out and then microwaved. After asking for several items that they didn’t have, I got the bbq chicken and my sister got the«spicy» beef adobo. which wasn’t very spicy at all.

This place was introduced to me by a few Flipino clients of mine. I really didn’t like. The place was ok but the people there were very rude. I don’t think this type of food is right for me. The people, no way. I won’t go back again.

this USED to be my favorite place to get a filipino breakfast plate late at night. me and my friends would come to this small eatery/karaōke bar every other night to get their tocilog. back then the restaurant was called«Melissa’s» which we found out was the name of the owner’s daughter. it’s a tiny place, and on busy nights filled with older, single(and sometimes married) filipino dudes looking to get drunk enough to ask the waitresses for some good ‘olé old fashioned lovin. some years ago, they changed the name of the restaurant to Mekeni(which in kapangpangan, a filipino dialect, means come here). the last time i was there, i saw the same owner as before… the cooks definitely changed though. the tocino was raw, i had to ask them to re-fry it, and they were shady on the portion of sinangag(garlic rice). i’m gonna come back here to see if anything’s changed. i noticed recently that they aren’t open everyday… at least whenever i drive there, it’s closed, except for friday nights.
